7-Day Motivational Thread starting 11/14/11 (OMG there are only 42 days until X-mas)

Good morning lovelies! OMG there are roughly 30 days left to work off the pounds and pump up the muscles before you have to face all those holiday gatherings. OY!!!! I don't know about the rest of you but I have to visit all of the toughest critics in my life during the holidays. So it's time to get serious and in control, I really don't want to be 15 lbs heavier when I make my New Year's resolution. Correction, I AM NOT GOING TO GAIN ANY WEIGHT OVER THE HOLIDAYS, I AM GOING TO LOSE A FEW POUNDS!!! Hopefully I can follow attitude with action eh?

Healthy Goals

1. Calories 1,400 M-T-W-Th & Sun, 1,600 F&S.
2. 100 oz water.
3. Protein 25% or higher.

5. Exercise 7 hours.
6. Log everything, and report on this thread.

8. Limit cheating to a single meal, of normal size and duration.
9. 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, 100 push-ups, 10 sets of calf raises, 10 miles.

Other Stuff

1. Deal with flower pots.
2. Deal with squash and pickles.
3. Housekeeping 1 hour + 1 load of laundry/daily
4. Start Christmas list and update wish list.
5. Deal with coupon binder.

I'm in for another round. Had a great week last week and so I'm not going to change much. I'm getting a little nervous about Christmas being so close, too. I have about 15 people that depend on me for a magical, food-filled holiday with tons of Martha Stewart looking gifts under the tree and I'm just not feeling it this year... LOL. Does Martha make house calls?? ;)

Long Term:

1. Lose 7 lbs. by November 28th. Down 3
2. Change my mental attitude (again) toward food. It's not a treat, boredom killer or a reward. Check!
3. Get through Thanksgiving Day without a major melt-down.
4. Look great in my black dress without a "supportive assist".
5. Journal, when needed, to figure out what's going on and why I can't master this, once and for all.

This Week:

1. Calories between 1000-1200.
2. One fruit or vegetable serving with each meal and one as a snack.
3. 80 oz. of liquid a day.
4. Take all vitamins and supplements.
5. Walk 3 times in the next 7 days, weather permitting.
6. Log everything.
7. No bread, cheese, butter or spreads Monday-Friday, no excuses!
8. List something wonderful that happened to me today. ;)

I doubt it unless maybe you have insider trading information that can't be traced to her? Martha has legions of people that do all of that stuff for her, I bet they come cheaper than she would.

I have a ton of stuff to do at Christmas as well, and this week it's like the calm before the storm. OY! I should get up from the desk and get cracking.

Quinn, how funny. Did you see how I compared you to Martha Stewart last week?

LOL... Yes! Me and Martha... we go way back to our insider trading days... ahh, the good 'ol days when we'd talk stock tips while making lovely bows out of our tp rations.... ROFL! Where do you think I learned how to cook, silly?? :D

cjohnson728 11-14-2011 02:34 AM

I'm in, too. I need a nice, tight week before we leave for the House of Schizophrenic Food on Saturday. I have a pound and a half to go to get back to my preferred weight. Whether or not that'll happen, I don't know, but I'm going to give it my best.

Thanks for starting it off, Amy; good to see Mike and Quinn here all motivated and ready to go! Quinn, I don't know about Martha S., but I have a friend with a dog named Martha who is so friendly, I'm sure she wouldn't mind coming over to help you out!

Goals worked last week, so pretty much the same:

1. Calories capped at 1300.
2. Follow my pie chart rules (percentages, fiber, fat proportions).
3. Drink 3 sports bottles of water (and/or herbal tea equivalent) per day.
4. Sleep 7 hours.
4a. No caffeine after 3 PM.
4b. Turn off all electronics 30 min. before bed.

5. Exercise 6 times.

6. Plan healthy meals for week with leftovers for 4 days hubby is here after we leave.
7. Finish competency eval (a new one).
8. Catch up invoices and billing.
9. Follow up with insurance companies regarding new practice location.
10. Follow up with new location business license.
11. Library for books on tape.
12. Make applesauce with last of orchard apples and freeze.

Good luck everyone, and have a great week!!

quinnesec 11-14-2011 02:53 AM

Ok... I've made an addition to my goals, #8. "List something wonderful that happened to me today." It's kind of a take-off on my "Smile More, Bitch Less" goal. The story behind it goes something like this-

When my kids were younger, we went through a period when they didn't want to talk about their day when they got home and if asked, they would just look at me and grunt. So, I started to make a joke out of it and would say, "OK. I get that you don't want to rehash everything that you did today, so just tell me one wonderful thing that happened to you today and you can go." It got to be fun and it got to be a joke. They told me that they would actually start thinking about it on the bus on the way home. My goal had been met. Instead of walking in the door all negative, they started to think about something positive that had happened before they reached the door. Some of the things that they thought were "wonderful" were totally hysterical! (Usually gross, but hysterical! ;))

I also have another one that I use when they leave the house. When I say goodbye, I also tell them to "Hug a tree, save a whale, stay out of jail and if you can't do all of those today, do something nice for someone today and when you get home, tell me what it was." Those are usually equally as funny. ("I handed Josh a kleenex when he sneezed and got snot on his desk.")

I realized lately that I've been focusing too much on things that are bringing me down instead of lifting me up.

Anyone want to join me? It can be as serious or as funny as you want. Just have fun with it.

Quinn, there was a girl here that decided to take the week off b/c she was addcited to us, I can't remember who?;) I'm thinking she'll post again within a 30 minute window of an hour from now. Do you want to take the over or under?:D
BTW I was referring to your insider football tips. :D

I'll take the over... she's probably in class. lol

01gt4.6 11-14-2011 03:35 AM

Quinn, I have a funny story. My brother use to text me to see if I wanted to come over to watch the game and I was always tell him that I was at the game with Sean & Tom (Peyton & Benson ;)). We'd always joke about it so Saturday he tells me that he's going to the game and that Tom's helicopter is coming to pick him up. I reply "Oh okay. They're going to win by 3, ATL is throwing the game. Gotta love a spolier huh?"

As you know, ATL was 4th and inches and went for it and came up short and we ended up winning by 3. Guess who just called me about that...:D

She probably is in class. We'll see...

I had to edit my goal. I did this b/c I am responsible for me, but it takes two to play tennis. ;) I'm going to shoot to play twice but if my brother can't make it, I can't play with... I'll do pushups instead. I am going to totally rock this week. I'm going to try my absolute best to drop another 4 pounds this week, but my body will untimately do what it wants. My cheat meal last week was teh weak sauce, this week will probably be the same. (I know someone is thinking WTH is teh weak sauce, I know someone will get it) for those that aren't hip to the internet slang, your chirrens probably know. It was weak, wasn't my usualy gorging, that's why I was still very deficient. This week will be the same.

Where is everyone. I think we should comprise a list of our regulars that we miss so dearly.;)

Gee I never thought about it, my first guess would have been that you learned to cook from your mom. I did not know they teach cooking classes in prison and how to make bows out of tp. Wow, you learn something new everyday LOL.

I'm here, but it ain't pretty

My recap of last week is on the last week thread. I was going to paste it here but I lost it somewhere along the line. LOL Anyway my goals were awesome. It was what I didn't have as a goal that went so totally wrong over the weekend. I ate like I had no care in the world. I had the whole good angel / bad devil thing going on and my angel must have taken a leave of absence because my devil was up to no good all weekend. I won't go into all the details and make everyone hungry when you all are doing so well but I should find a carboholic meeting sometime in the near future!

So for my sins (and Aunt Flo) I am up 5.6lbs today since last Monday. I am not changing my sig because I am determined that it has to be mostly TOTM and sodium and whatever I achieve by next Monday will be my new sig weight. I have also come to the realization that to some degree I am depressed. There are moments in the day right now where I can (and have) cry at the drop of a pin. I know it is stress and it will all work out but I have never had this type of stress in my life and it is really wearing on me. I am always the upbeat person with the smile telling everyone else that it will be okay. Thank God I have my hubby to support me through all of this. I just hope that I am supporting him too.

So onto making some new goals...I may have to borrow one or two from some other members...hope you don't mind ;)

Health / Fitness
1. 80oz water daily
2. Limit one diet soda daily
3. No extra salt
4. Exercise 5 times
5. Walk 4 out of 5 work days (unless raining) M: 1.5m,
6. No junk in my mouth

Life goals...
1. Take a few minutes to de-stress daily not including walk at work
2. List something each day I am thankful for

Mike ... I wouldn't count losing 4 out of 5lbs a failure. I would say that is an 80% WIN! Good for you on getting all those fish cleaned. I wouldn't have done it. Not even one of them! :)

Quinn ... I love your 'something wonderful' goal.

I'm sorry you're feeling down. I had a similar experience about the time I hit the 50-60 lb mark (that and I was cold all the time), and some of it honestly was from living at a deficit for so long. Did the binge perk you up at all? Or did you just feel worse afterward? If the binge perked you up, it might be the diet causing your tears and sadness, but either way if it continues you might want to bring it up with your doctor. Exercise is a very good way to increase your mood, I know you've been doing a lot of walking, maybe you need to bump it up a little. Burn off some calories and work off your aggressions. Kickboxing maybe? If you have a Wii I love the boxing dude, especially at the end where you throw as many punches as you can. I keep waiting for the Stomp people to come out with a workout video, I'm certain if you strapped garbage can lids to your feet and stomped around the neighborhood, you would feel really pumped up after, not to mention the neighbors would be chasing you with tomatoes and garden hoses as well.

I too love Quinn's "something wonderful" idea, might have to get the kids to do that with me. They've been all Grouchland with me lately.

Yeah, I do a zigzag calorie diet. It helps a lot since I know there are some days that I can eat some higher calorie items, so I don't feel so stuck eating the same foods everyday.

Does Aunt Flo have anything to do about your depression? What about the change in weather/season? Seriously that can have a big effect on some people. Are you subconsiously mourning a loved one (INCLUDING pet) b/c the holidays are coming? That happens a lot a well. Those may or may not be the cause I just wanted to point out what may be the obvious, b/c once you figure out "why" then you can work on dealing with it.

How does the zigzag work when the calories burned also zigzags? Doesn't it throw it all off? I know that I usually eat more on the days that I plan to burn more.

Unfortunately it didn't help me feel better. I know that it is the stress right now that is getting to me. I will be talking weekly with a family therapist on how to handle what is going on with our son starting tomorrow. I really don't want to but it seems we have exhausted our other options. I just hate to feel helpless. I am supposed to be able to fix what is wrong for my kids & family. I won't stay this way for long. I just feel totally like the bad guy and I know my hubby does too. We have him grounded from everything that he enjoys. But I have a voice in the back of my mind saying that I am punishing him for reacting to someone else's bad behavior. Not that his reactions are appropriate and that is why he needs anger management to figure out what to do with his reactions. But really, I have mentioned a few times to the school that they need to do something and so far I have only heard about the things my son is doing wrong. I will fix this. I just have to figure out how to do it.

Oh Gosh! That was TMI and I am tempted to delete it but I am going to post it.

Those may or may not be the cause I just wanted to point out what may be the obvious, b/c once you figure out "why" then you can work on dealing with it.

My reply to Amy's post probably explains the whole "why" of the way I am feeling right now. Thank you for trying to help though! :)

I have always loved fall. I really like it when it starts to snow but today I was outside walking in mid-November in a skirt and a short sleeved top in PA! That is almost unheard of. The weather is beautiful today. I do miss my dog. He was one of a kind and due to the things going on with my son I really didn't get to 'celebrate' him on the anniversary of his passing. The hardest thing is that our families aren't close so I really have nobody other than my hubby to pour my heart out to at times and I need to be strong for him because he stresses out easier than I do. I will figure this out. I just hope it doesn't take too long.

I use freedieting.com calculator to figure out my zigzag... I used this years ago and lost 36 pounds in 6 months. Calorie zigzagging provides same amount of calories per week, but tricks your body by constantly changing daily calories. This helps to prevent or break plateaus. I exercise the same amount everyday that I do exercise. I never found it to throw anything off.

Amy I right alongside you with the Christmas chore list I started this weekend with shopping I have finished my daughters list and got 3 of 5 stockings done. I also found lovely old fashioned burgundy and gold Christmas wrapping paper it has six designs and all the ribbons and bows to match.:) Christmas cards are under production as we speak, my daughter is a crafter so she hand makes the cards she has 3 designs in the works so we should have them in the mail by next week.

Quinn I love your idea of sharing the nice things that happen we are so blessed and yet we forget that and sweat the small stuff all the time, I am in! I chuckled at your need for Martha Stewart my daughter is very much a fan but would probably spend all her time fighting with her over who’s center piece is better lol.

Mike You had a really good week thanks for pushing us last week also. Good job on getting all your fish fileted that must have been a huge job.

Chibisub Hi your zigzag program is interesting.

April Sorry to hear you feel down make sure you do something nice for yourself today. Remember you are not alone you should post honestly it will help. My son is a high performance elite athlete who struggled in high school due to his I am special the rules don’t apply to me stinky attitude that trust me my hubby wanted to smack out of him often. We spent many afternoons in the principal’s office and often felt we had made some large parental mistakes but talking to other parents who’s children had different backgrounds and interest we found they too were struggling raising teens is hard period. So having shared that my, son is now 20 a coach with a waiting list to get in his programs a wonderful girlfriend and a bright future. I went to pick him up a couple months ago and he was sitting on a bench talking to a 12 year old boy who was experiencing bullying at school and I heard a man who was sensitive, smart , understanding and wise in the advice he gave and even writing this I feel amazed and proud that we raised this man. So hang in there do what you believe and trust your instincts!!

My mom is following the weight watchers plan and she was telling me that fruit does not cost them points so she can eat as much as she wants I said I thought that was very odd as fruit is high in calories and sugar but she said that you cannot get fat eating fruit so what do you think?

Good afternoon everyone I am late arriving to the party but with my parents in town I need to run around in the morning and make sure the house is ready for a surprise inspection. I was very busy all weekend so I am aiming for a casual day today. Have a great day everyone.

Goals:
Exercise 5 days:
Walk 25k (15.5m):
Gym 2 days:
Squats 5 days:
Ab work 5 days:
Calories less than 1400:
Calorie deficit of 5000 for week:
Christmas prep everyday:
List something wonderful that happened today:

Thanks x 2. :)What do I think about Weight Watches? I think they can't make up their mind. I've heard more bad than good about WW, people get stuck paying and paying b/c they struggle to reach their goal weight. Maybe that's why they keep changing what you can count??

I'm in agreement with mom on this one. I rarely stop myself from eating fruits or veggies. Usually, you get tired of them before they can amount to a damaging amount of calories when left in their natural form... (except for Mike's ability to eat 10 pounds of broccoli at one sitting... ;))

Time to stop lurking... for a while

Hi All,

Now's a good time to start setting some goals, dos, and don'ts for myself as we head into the holidays (thanks for the reminder, ahhem:eek:). I often get kind of schizo this time of year trying to accomplish everything and once and not really getting anything done. So with your help I'll start with a list and just run through priorities:

Diet and fitness:
1.) 2 pieces of fruit every day
2.) 1 quart of water (just plain water) everyday. Coffee, tea, propel, etc don't count
3.) Protein @40%
4.) Carbs @ 30%
5.) No white foods including rice, potatoes, or bread
6.) Limit beer and wine to 1 glass with dinner

Home, work & life:
1.) Order DH Christmas & B'day gifts (his is the 26th the poor guy)
2.) Try 1 new recipe this week
3.) Clip the kitty's claws (hate this chore, probably more than they hate it)
4.) Pay bills including the Property Taxes - yikes!
5.) Finish 2 remaining study plans for this year's research
6.) Remain faithful to the plan over the weekend
7.) Be kind to crabby people.

Things have been going pretty well for me the last few months, but we all know how hard it is to maintain self discipline from Thanksgiving to New Years, so I am hoping to get good habits in place before all hell breaks lose!

Either b/c it's worse for you b/c of it's simple carbs or she's prejudiced. J/K

That's 180 pounds, get it straight. ;) See I try to limit my fruit and when I do eat it it's usually during the day or in the evening AFTER a workout when my body needs the sugar boost. maybe I'm doing it wrong. :o

The only white foods that I can think of that are worth the calories are cauliflower and fish.

Hello everyone!
In an attempt to improve my going to bed routine I will be posting here earlier and not almost at midnight, which means I report the next morning.

This week I will be extra good Monday thru Friday as I have a big celebration on Saturday so... all food goals do not apply for that day.

Goals.

1. Under 1200 calories M-F. Sunday 1400.
2. Water 3 liters every day.
3. Exercise 4 times M-F
4. Additional daily squats
5. Stay away from cheese
6. Stay away from baked goods
7. Take vitamins
8. Go to sleep before midnight
9. Clean my inbox.

MAIN80 11-14-2011 10:25 AM

Almeeker, you are right! WE will not gain any weight over the holidays! Wherever the mind goes the body will follow!

Mike, 4 pounds is awesome! You can do this! Sorry to hear about your computer problems.

Quinn, also a great job on the 3 pounds. Its tough when you don't feel like doing the whole holiday season thing, maybe start out with the simple things and you can go from there.

Cassie, you can lose that pound and a half this week. You had a great week last time and I can still read your determination so keep at it.

ChibiSub, excellent goals! I have heard good things about the zigzagging, I might try it very soon.

April, I am sorry you are stressed and sad, but you need to believe that things will work out for the best. I understand that as a mother you don't want to see your kids go through difficult times but this too shall pass. Try focusing on the things you can control that will slowly start to make you feel better. A big hug to you.

Darlene, excellent progress on your xmas chores. Thank you for your support on my high calorie day and congrats on being in the 140s. About the WWs fruit thing, I agree with Quinn, I think eventhough they can be a lot of calories in a piece of fruit most people cannot eat THAT many fruit in day that would severely alter their total calories. Thinking about my "orange binge" last week even that was only around 200 calories so its not bad really. I guess when someone is trying to control sugar levels then thats a different story but for people just watching portions and calories they are ok.

Pam, nice to read you and nice goals! Hope to see you around all the holiday season.
