Thanks dar, and you're lucky to have that actually, my boyfriend HATES painting with a passion, and isn't overly handy (build me a new computer sure, remodel not so much).

Luckily I'm daddy's little girl so I can still get help on that side.

I have a Kitchen remodel coming up next spring, I do have to say I will get inolved on the demo I SOOO want to take a sledge hammer to my ugly cupboards and that useless wall.

Lol Ruby, was that a hint co-worker 2 wouldn't be alive if they were there yesterday ;)
Suppose I was in a good spot with that yesterday, my side of the office only had me in it all day yesterday. (People Sick, maternity leave, off for surgery, offsite with clients) It was so peaceful.

So far I'm doing well keeping under 200, even lost another pound All that apple picking on the weekend burnt some energy :)

quinnesec 09-27-2011 12:42 AM

almeeker,

We used to religiously watch Norm Abrahams on his show "The New Yankee Workshop", but seriously if I had all his toys in my workshop I could be that good too. What I really wanted to do was send him our little bucket of power tools and challenge him to make something impressive with that. Now talk about your reality television program... Sort of like New Yankee Workshop meets Survivor LOL.

OMG! I laughed so hard when I read this! It's SO true! Especially on HGTV. They pull up a fully equipped semi with every tool known to man and an off-camera crew of about 40, and then say, "I told you that you could remodel your entire house in a weekend!" :)

The landscaping shows are even funnier. They fail to show you the army of men and the 8 Bobcats that actually did all of the work! lol

Health/Fitness Goals
1. 80 oz water daily M: Y,
2. No mindless eating M: Y,
3. Only one diet soda daily M: Y,

Life Goals
1. 1hr house work daily not including daily chores M: N,
2. Border bathroom M: N,
3. Caulk around top of tub M: N,
4. Laundry M: N,

So last night I ended up needing to go "to town". Since we live about a half hour from a city it is usually an all evening event. But I got a new pair of walking shoes so I am happy! :) Also got the strip that I needed for the corner of the wall in the bathroom (clear plastic drywall corner protection). Hubby will put that on for me. He was even careful to buy stainless screws so they don't rust from the moisture from the humidity in there. He also bought a new porch light fixture and the closer for the storm door on the front of the house. He already installed both last night. I do have to admit that I am not the one who does the construction and electrical type projects. I do more of the painting stuff and I love our house and most of the fixtures in it so I don't have to change any of that. I just have to paint everything because when it was built about 18 yrs ago they never finished painting so if I haven't painted it, it is flat white primer on drywall that is impossible to clean and all the woodwork in every room is raw except the rooms I have painted, I sand & polyurethane the wood to keep it as natural as possible but still cleanable. The auto parts store is fun! I can talk cars & trucks with most any guy and I have a very soft, young (porn) phone voice LOL so my hubby loves to have me call and ask for parts at the auto parts store or junkyard! He loves it.

Thanks to all who complimented my home abilities. Maybe later I will dig up pics of my bedroom that I painted. I think I have some on photobucket. I might even have some of a fall arrangement or two from last season.

Rose ... sounds like overall a good health report. And another lb down! Yay!! I would have your cholesterol rechecked when you get home just to be sure. I don't know much about it honestly but it would seem logical that two different tests could yield different results. .... I also noticed that you spell color the 'english' way but then remembered you are from Canada not America. :)

Lizzie ... Is it possible that you have added water weight since your vacation and coming back to daily life? Seems a bit quick to really have gained 3.5lbs. In any case I know you will get back to doing what you need to and it will be gone soon.

Quinn ... Good for you for finally taking a day off. I bet that felt really good. I know it was well deserved. I can't remember my last actual full day of doing nothing (other than cooking & dishes).

Amy ... sounds like your parents need a class in potty training not their daughter. Ugh! That would frustrate me so bad.

hi guys, thought i'd check in even tho i'm not doing daily goals this week, but i am keeping them in mind.

i'm still fighting this cold but i feel better today than i did yesterday.

i did my tai chi class last night, i like it it calms my mind and i like the smooth slow movements.

i need to see if i can find a book or DVD so i can practice at home!

i also started counting cals again yesterday, i actually feel good that i didn't go over 1700 cals, and it also keeps me in check with how much i eat!

i did a mix of wii fit/zumba wii this morning, i like zumba since it gets me moving and also gets steps out of the way fr the day too!

i'll check back later!

01gt4.6 09-27-2011 01:00 AM

I hope you can get rid of the cold.

Kumochi 09-27-2011 01:03 AM

Don't murder co-workers:

Now that's a very good goal! And one I'm sure a lot of us could apply. Mine would more likely be the crown attorney.

Amy you have my sympathy. I have the same issue with grandkids. You know whatever you try to teach them will be undone; of course I parented 1/2 their parents so I guess I'm to blame for some of the lapses. My fiberglass job is holding water out -- however it's not pretty -- Good job it's on the bottom. Doing it outside helps with the fumes. If I remember rightly the gelcoat was stronger. It's not hard to do -- maybe harder to do right. If you can finish drywall seams you likely would do a smooth job.

Diet and exercise okay -- too much oatmeal as a bedtime snack -- otherwise on track. Mary

01gt4.6 09-27-2011 01:05 AM

Terri, where are you? I assume you haven't been able to post an update b/c you're getting "all dolled up" right now.

I consider it a bread because it uses flour as a base ingredient.

I was struggling last year too when I would get up to 6 miles on my runs. The road I run down is hilly the entire way, which is a great workout. But I was having problems with my IT band and had to stop at the 5 mile point. Right now I'm just running 4 miles but next week I am going to through a 5 mile run in the mix since I want to do another 10k in November and that's 6.2 miles I think.

Can cookies be a bread too?! :D

Though, tortillas are basically just a thinner flat bread so I would through them in the bread category personally as well.

01gt4.6 09-27-2011 01:26 AM

This will be a little off topic, but I know we talk about everything here. I don't know if I'm going through a midlife crisis or what but I've been having this strange urge to buy something big. Part of me what's a newer, nice house. Another part wants a toy, maybe a bike or a car.

Well I found this the other day. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...6/gsxr1000.jpg
http://s266.photobucket.com/albums/i...t=gsxr1000.jpg

It has scam written all over it b/c it's too good to be true. The guy is supposed to be back in town next week, he claims to be working on an oil platform. I'll make arrangements to go to Miami to check it out in person. If it's legit I'll buy it while there and haul it back. I figure if I get it and my back is still giving me fits, I'll just sell it and make a profit. I should know something by then. Wish me luck.

ZoeDuc, hey, I'm a Suzuki man, can you blame me?

Joke: How do you know when it's time to change the oil on your Harley?
Punchline: When it quits leaking.

taubele 09-27-2011 02:51 AM

Mern: It's so wonderful to see you back! I do like seeing all the green, but when it's a lot of red I feel chagrined. I think I'm not juggling half as many numbers as you are, though, so what does that say about me? lol. I'm looking forward to short-list time as well, when I can just figure out my simple core rules and stick with them, but right now I know that I have to do what's right for me and not judge myself too harshly against others. Great news about your DH!!! I really am a believer in being on as few meds as possible - only those you REALLY need. I bet he feels better too, not being on the pill!

Joanna: Good luck on your exams!

Mary: Great to see you feeling so motivated, and congrats on getting rid of those stubborn vacation pounds!

almeeker: Part of me is wishing you could have gotten in on the Just Dance party to shake some of that pizza off! Lol! It sounds like a great time was had by all. Birthdays are special, don't beat yourself up too much. You sound like you've been through it all on the DIY-front, and I hear you on the big boobs  I've gone down to a C-cup since I've lost weight, but they're still...noticeable, and I'd love to have a conversation once in awhile that didn't involve a "glance-down" by a member of the opposite sex. The potty training issue sounds like a nightmare - not looking forward to the process when I have children!

April: WOW! Look at you go working on that bathroom, nice job! It sounds like you really got to it, I'm jealous of your home makeover skills!

Nailkita: Welcome. Hey, we all start with a few simple goals, those look great!!

quinn: I too love it when men (or even other women) make assumptions about me based on my appearence, and then you can bowl them over with knowledge and experience! Makes my day. My BF likes doing it too - he looks like a punk kid with a mohawk a lot of the time, and then if you would only speak to him, you'd find he's polite, articulate, funny and kind. Defying expectations makes some days alllll worth it.

Rose: Glad to hear your checkup was MOSTLY FANTASTIC and you're down another pound! That scale is movin' now!

wowgirl:
Welcome back, nice to see you!

Main80: Welcome back!

Mike: I was getting all dolled up! :) I also had a long night with a cranky BF - he was determined to be mad at the world and so I had to spend a lot of energy just getting him even-keeled (A big dinner helped). I went to bed late and woke up a little late this morning. The bike looks nice, why do you think it's a scam?

Weekly Goals

Food, Exercise, Lifestyle Goals:

1) Average 1,200-1,400 calories for the week. No single day over 1,600 cals. M: 1,087 (Week Average 1,087)
2) Exercise 4x this week M: Unplanned day off
3) At least 80 oz. of water daily M: no (48?)
4) Take my multivitamin! M: forgot!
5) 30% protein for the week (average) M: 30% (Week Average: 30%)
6) Calorie deficit between 5,000-7,000 M: -757 (Week Total: -757)
7) At least three servings of fruits/vegetables a day M: no
8) Report in every day, including weekends M: yes
9) Weigh in only on Wednesday M: Didn't weigh

Other Goals:

1) Make an effort on my appearance every day M: yes
2) Clean out the car, it's disgusting M: no
3) Take time out for myself every day M: no
4) Really work on the backed-up reading for grant M: Read grant, made initial notations

BF was super-cranky-pants last night, and when he's like that, three things happen: 1) He needs food, stat. 2) He wants me within 5 feet of him at all times telling him over and over how much life sucks and offering advice and 3) He needs a distraction once he's calmed down. Usually BF is very even-keeled, but he had a bunch of little things that added up for him yesterday to piss him off. Not to get into his personal business, but growing up, his problems were largely ignored by his family - so it takes a lot of placating and talking to get him out of his funks, and he needs a lot of attention (otherwise he shuts down and goes into brick-wall-mode, and that's ten times worse and stresses me out). A lot of times I feel like I'm making up for what he didn't get as a child - but that's ok. I've been trying to let him know that I always feel his feelings are valid, but it takes a lot of effort, still. It may always be something that's a "work-in-progress" but that's alright. I made him a big dinner with tilapia, a cilantro-lime recipe that I've developed that's pretty yummy, and I also baked him a potato. I had some fish and rice as well, though I skipped the potato (too much starch). We then watched a long movie (The King's Speech) that calmed him down a lot, but put my bedtime at around 12:30.

So I had to scramble out of bed this morning. I ALMOST skipped my hair-and-makeup routine but I still did it, though it made me late for work this morning. Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday this week are going to be COMPLETE NUTS in terms of work, so that makes it very, very important that I work out on T/Th/Sat. I was going to work out last night as well, however, I got home late from work and my sister wanted a Skype date. I put family over my workout yesterday - what I'm hoping is that I can get in a workout on Sunday, maybe in the morning. We'll see. I hate starting off the week with good intentions and having them derailed.

Happy Tuesday all!

~Terri

It's too good to be true. He claims it's immaculate with only 1,900 miles and he wants $2600. That bike new sells for ~$11,000 and would easilly go for $8k used. It just doesn't add up. He also sent me an eBay link, which ended up being a dead link. Oh yeah, he's wanting to ship the bike to me. All of that screams scam. I told him to email me next week when he gets in with his # and I'll make arrangements to buy it in person (once I feel comfortable that it's legit) and I'll pay them. That way there's no need to ask me to wire transfer money. ;) I was born during the day, but not yesterday. :D I'm 99% sure it's a scam, but you never know. Oh no matter how closely I look I can't seem to see the VIN plate on the frame.

Mern 09-27-2011 04:32 AM

Main80! Hey, welcome back, girl! Don't worry 'bout trying to catch up with the posts--it's overwhelming to do that just after a couple days. I just came back myself after having been absent for a few weeks off the wagon. Wow, best wishes on your calorie goal. I'm not self-disciplined enough for that, but I know you can do it.

Rose! Congrats on the great health assessment and on being down yet another pound! It certainly is understandable that your move to England and changing cuisine could be responsible for the elevated cholesterol. Hey, I'm succeeding at lowering mine through diet and I just know you can do it, too. Thanks for your kind words about DH lowering his BP through diet. I don't know that I was a good influence--just that I was able to provide an alternative for him to try. But hey, it worked, so that's all that matters.

Lizzie, I'll bet that 3.5 lb. increase during your holidays will go away quickly. I haven't even bothered to look at the scale to see what damage I did while being off the wagon and not caring at all what I ate. I just don't want to know right now. I might not weigh for a few weeks and just be as good as possible.

Wowgirl, the prodigal. No, no one ever gives ME any "inheritance" when I leave, either. But Mike gave me a kick in the butt when I came back. LOL Wow! 101.75! How tall are you? Oh, I so admire you for doing Paleo. I tried that once and didn't have enough self discipline.

Ann, congrats on being back on track after the poker tournament. Congrats on that four mile run last night!

Ruby, I got a good chuckle out of your goal of not murding your co-workers. LOL

Mike, thanks for your encouragement and for the kick "where the sun don't shine." That was great food for thought: "We all fall of the wagon, but don't let it run you over!!!!!!! " Yeah, I count my tortillas as bread. I'm lucky I found some 5g net carb ones that I love. Congrats on avoiding that PB&J when you wanted to avoid it. I know there are times you can work it in "legally" to your goals. When I workout, even just walking two miles (probably because of my obesity) I break into a sweat and my hair gets sopping wet around my temples and in the back, so I always have to shower and wash my hair right after exercise. Is that why you shave your arms--sweat? It's no big deal--I'm just curious. I'm brunette still at 65 and it's my natural color, not dyed--and yeah, I'm bragging. LOL. But I also have blond curly peach fuzz on the sides of my face below my cheek bones and some on my neck. My doc told me she could prescribe some medicine to get rid of it, but I just told her I'm used to it and it doesn't embarrass me. Then SHE seemed rather embarrassed for having brought it up. LOL

Mary, congrats on having lost your regained pounds! That's great!

Darlene! Congrats on your 2 lbs. lost! :) Thanks for the blessings. I really like that. :)

Amy, the slumber party and dancing sounded great. Congrats on getting back on the buggy! Good luck with the potty training--so glad I don't have to do that anymore. Wow, you're doing great on your healthy goals this week!

April, I agree it's wonderful what a healthier diet can do for one's body. :) I believe that all that work on the bathroom had to give you an allowance for extra food you usually can't eat. Congrats on that. I often count extra heavy duty housework as my exercise.

Quinn, that's wonderful that you were able to enjoy a totally lazy day except for cooking dinner early. We all need that on occasion and the Good Lord knows you certainly earned it!

Nailkita, congrats on that pound lost. Don't let the goals of others scare you. We don't compete with each other--we all just set the goals we need as individuals. My doc told me on my last visit that we don't need to be perfect--we just need to do better than we used to. Some people simply don't need to be so strict in order to succeed. I have a slow metabolism, lose slowly, and manage certain health issues through diet and no meds--that's why my list is long. I like your simple goals. In reducing your sodium, don't forget to watch your processed food intake--lot of salt in there. You may already know how to get off all the excess sodium, but here's something that was very new to me: one of our members (Kumochi) mentioned once that sodium nitrite/sodium nitrate can stall weight loss and that is found in a lot of the luncheon meats I was eating. When I got off that, I broke my plateau and now make sure to avoid that food additive as much as possible.

So I have a job interview tomorrow for a full time job. Been doing part time for the last 2.5 years, which has been great staying home two days a week with my daughter. But we want to rent our townhouse out and buy a single family home and the extra money will come in handy for that and to pay a babysitter. Wish me luck guys!!!

It's a real shame that it's probably a scam but at least you're smart enough and knowledgeable enough to know that it is a scam. If you still want a bike I hope you can find one you want at a fair price (or find a real too-good-to-be-true-but-is-true deal).

Kumochi 09-27-2011 05:37 AM

A busy forum. Mike I agree it sounds too good to be true. There are a lot of scams out there from buyers and sellers. If you are selling beware of anyone who sends you more money and wants you to return some. Laundered cheques are being used a lot and if the original cheque is from a big company it can take weeks to bounce. They steal cheques that have been mailed, wash them, and write new amounts and payees.

I hope it's a real sale, looks like a nice bike.

Ann Good luck on the job interview. Is it with the same company you have been part time with?

Lunch is done. I may need to increase my fat intake to make up for no wheat. I'm feeling like I'm missing something. Mary

Mike I vote that tortillas are bread. I hope your bike isn’t a scam.

Nailkita Way to go on losing a pound, apple picking sounds fun.

Mern Thanks for commenting on the blessings. I am not the type of person who forces my beliefs on anyone but I really want to make friends and form a real support system here so I want to be honest about my faith it is a big part of who I am.

Ann Good luck at your job interview.

Have a great Tuesday everyone.

That's it! I'm going to wrap up my bucket and send it to HGTV and tell them it's for Norm and they can send him to my house this weekend, with a camera crew and only 20 of the behind the scene guys. They can call it something catchy like "Normy on a Shoestring" or "Mr. Frugal McFixit", or "Yankee NO Budget". How about "DIY Deep Discount"? Oooh I like that one. It would be like nothing else on HGTV, this could be HUGE!!!

We have a family joke around here that after a certain age a man looking to exponentially increase his animal magnetism, needs to wear either a tool belt or a plaid flannel shirt. One or the other is good, but both means he's on the prowl. Well I've always thought it was a joke, my mother however, takes it much more seriously. You should see the gifts she buys that husband of mine. She wants him to be Norm, I'm sure of it.

Morning all!
Totally crazy trying to finish up all my loose ends at work. Word of advice to ya'll; If you ever get asked to do Pallet Control in a warehouse, run. Just run, and don't look back.
Three days left until I'm free (of course, a week after that I'm starting somewhere else...).
Here's yesterday's results;
  • 5 bottles of water daily (600ml each) - Y Y
  • Gym - YN
  • Eat Paleo - Y Y
  • Find out if I should be taking a supplement - NY

I'd love to reply to you all, but don't have time to sort all your posts, sorry.
Except Ann, good luck with the interviews!!
And Mike, I agree, it's bread, and hope the bike isn't a scam and you get it. :)

Cheers all.

Edit; Oh, someone asked how tall I am, I'm about average... I'm not totally sure, maybe 6f 1i? Is that normal? :P And I'm talking in kgs, sorry, I should have said that.

HAPPY DANCE TIME - This morning I weighed in at 99.65kgs... that's the first time I've been under 100 since whenever it was in my teens that I went over. Three years ago I was 120kgs, now I'm under 100. Try getting the smile off my face today. :D

Sorry I don't have the energy to chat it up tonight. I think I've caught the crud that's going around this thread. How that's possible I don't know, but this isn't the first time it's happened. Anyway, I have to go lay down now, hopefully tomorrow I will feel human and have the will to live.

Hey Almeeker, don't know if it'll help you, but just think about why you're doing what you're doing. The reasons you're losing weight.
I don't know if you've been fit before, but if you have, remember how good it felt? Or if you haven't, imagine it. Imagine youself in the little black dress, or bikini, or playing with the kids, and being able to keep up with them.
Hang in there girl, we're here for you! /hug

How accurately do you track your activities? I am tracking sleep since I am not burning the same sleeping as the rest of my lifestyle and I am tracking exercise but that is it. I chuckled at Almeekers interesting (funny) activities thread but it made me wonder how inaccurate my calories burned may be.
Amy Sorry you’re not feeling well, I hope you are better tomorrow.

I am posting my numbers early today as I have to go out tonight so hopefully I won’t eat anything not already logged, sounds good in theory.

Goals
Say something on the forum every day M=Y, T=Y
Do not talk diet with family M=Y, T=Y
Exercise daily M=Aerobics, T=Treadmill
Calories less than 1500 per day M=1267, T= 1302
Calorie deficit of 5000 for week M= -794, T= -752

Didn't do very well with my goals today... ate pretty clean, just way too much. Made a big, harvest-type Fall dinner and it was just too good to pass up. :)

* Keep calories at 1200 or less. Yes, NO

* Drink 80-90 oz. of water a day. Yes, Yes

* Eat clean! Yes, meh

* Try to slow down the pace of my life... I know some things are out of my hands, but when I have the chance, take a break, make a pot of coffee and vegetate, if only for a while. YES- I did nothing productive whatsoever! It was a very full day, yet remarkably stress-free.

Wooowhoooo I wrote 2 apps today. I made my numbers for my bonus.

My carbs and calories are up (from my goals) but I feel pretty good about my choices.

Good Luck :) *sending some of my irish your way*

As for how I'm doing:

Passed up Tim Horton's Donuts tonight. Someone brought them to our meeting. Luck I was off wheat this week or I would have given in. I still had calories left so treated myself to an omlett with a side of tomatoes and feta. Tasted great and should last longer than the donut.

Got the brakes on my bike fixed and new tires. Now I can bike down the hills -- as long as I don't forget that they really work and land on my head.

Met with my reno man -- should start next week. I'm afraid he will see way to many things to do. I'll have to keep a tight rein on the budget.

Holy moly this forum is active! I've got to make this quick since I didn't make it to the gym yesterday morning! I had a terrible night's sleep and I just could not get out of bed in time. It was tough going yesterday. I was very tired. At least I hit my other goals.

Sorry, if I haven't responded to everyone. Have an awesome Tuesday, Motivators!!!!!

April, thanks so much for the encouragement! I will definitely have my cholesterol rechecked when I am back home. In the meantime I am watching my fat intake! I hope you post some pictures of your amazing DIY skills. I just love that stuff. I bought my first home in 2009 and I went crazy decorating, making throw pillows, transforming old furniture, and picking out paint colours etc. I even wallpapered one wall in my bedroom. I just love the way it looks. I'll post mine if you post yours!

Ann, that's just great that you signed up for a 10k. That is my goal as well. I think I might aim for Spring though. I certainly won't be ready in November, especially since right now I am only running on the treadmill a couple of times a week. Oh and good luck with the job interviews! I'm sure you will do great!

Terri, thanks so much for the encouragement. I do hope the scale is on a downward spiral! Join the club for starting the week out with good intentions and having them derailed. I had the same issue yesterday morning. After a terrible night's sleep, I just could not get up early enough to make it to the gym. It is a bummer when these things happen but you have to think, worst case scenario, you will reach your goal weight one day later. In the grand scheme, that's not the end of the world.

Mern, you are a definite success story when it comes to lowering cholesterol. You did that by eating low carb right? By the way, it really is nice to have you back. I missed you so much around here. You know you are our forum darling so your presence is always in demand.

Amy, hope you didn't catch the crud. You've already got 2 and half hours of exercise done though. I bow down to you!

Mary, congrats on bypassing Timmy's last night! Someone here in England told me I was lucky to live in Canada because we have Tim Horton's. I laughed so loud!!! What a thing to be envious about!

Just checking in to say hi and wish everyone a good mid week day - the time to congratulate yourself if you're doing well, pull your pants up if you've slipped and make the rest of the week a good one.
I'm doing ok so far but still not moving enough, no excuses just haven't done it. Worked late last night but came home a threw a large salad together instead of stopping off at the takeaway. On the drive home it was like one of those cartoons with the little devil and angel on my shoulder whispering "yes stop and get a burger meal, it'll be so much easier and it is late after all" " No, you can make it home and get something put together pretty quickly and you will feel so much better tomorrow" Angel won!

Kumochi 09-28-2011 12:50 AM

Lizzie -- those devils and angels were fighting on my shoulders last night too. Nice when the good guys win.

Good day yesterday. Disappointed the scales is a little slow to reward me. Wed and Friday are my official weight in days. I shouldn't weight inbetween because it's disappointing when you have a nice loss then it disappears before next weight in day. Oh well here's looking to friday.

Have a fit day all. Mary

Even before I started dieting I worked out maybe 2-3 hours/week, I was fit-fat if you know what I mean. Truthfully I've been in pretty good shape most of my life, the only time I was pathetically and horribly out of shape was between baby #1 and baby #2. At that time we didn't have a gym membership and all I did was sit at a desk job, commute an hour in each direction to work and rock a collicky baby. None of which burns very many calories or builds muscle. I'm in pretty good shape now, although maybe not quite as good as I was at 18, when I weighed a whooping 118 lbs, rode my bike pretty much everywhere, and could toss bales of hay over my head all day long.

Um, I don't own a bikini, but when I reach my goal I do plan on shopping for one. I don't know that I'll buy it, the babies did some damage to the midsection, but I am going to at least check it out the possibility.
