Default 7 day motivational for Sept 19th

Okay I'll try to start it. Shall we go for the velvet hand instead of the Iron Fist this week.

I am feeling very motivated. No excuses this week. I have a new motivation. My daughter commented this weekend how nice it must be to be in better health than I was 5 or 10 years ago. I realized I can be an example for my 4 children that it's never to late to get fit.

#1 Monitor my water and consume at least 80 z
# 2 Buy a food scales
(that's step one in an effort to keep better track)
# 3 The Y 3 Monday Wed and Sat
# 4 Below 1700 calories
# 5 5 hours exercise beyond the Y

Who's in. I'll sue you for breach of contract if you slack off. Of course the contract is with yourself so you will still benefit. Mary

It's going to be a great weight loss week so let's all get some goals to work towards today and get this party started.

Health & Fitness Goals:

1. Calories 1,400 week days, 1,600 weekends.
2. Drink 100 oz water.
3. Calorie deficit 4,000.
4. Workout 6 hours.
5. Protein 25% or higher.

Other goals:

1. Housekeeping 45 min/day + 1 load laundry, + 1 closet, cupboard or drawer (had to up it 15 min, MIL coming Friday ).
2. A big fat load dropped off to charity.
3. Get started on Halloween costumes.
4. Clean out car.
5. Finish sorting out coupon binder.
6. Call grans.
7. Make 3 appointments and call pharmacy.

I had a fairly productive weekend although not completely on plan. In fact Saturday was downright a hard fall from the wagon. I did fine through the day, except I ate 6 peaches while I was canning them (but come on their peaches, at like 40 calories each it's not a huge problem, right?). Then out of the blue my mom called and offered to take the kids for the night, ergo we hit the pub for dinner. Now I like the pub as much as the next girl, but there is NO diet food on that menu and their idea of a "lite" beer is one that's "lite" in color. No lie, if you ask for a "lite" beer they bring you a "Sun Dancer" which is a light yellow (very yummy) and has just as many calories as their signature dark brown porter. So at 5:00pm I was at 1,000 for the day and by 8:00pm I was tipsy and nearing 3,000 !

LOL. Sounds a little dirty, there's an "adult" store called the "Velvet Touch" around here.

OK you twisted my arm, I'm in tho frankly, Mary you are a bit scary with that threat of litigation but I'll take my chances since as you say it is for my benefit. And Amy I'll see your pub experience and raise you 4 days of unbridled eating in Georgia (down there a wedding.) Can anyone say Waffle House? Not to mentiion dessert and alcohol.

Plan:
1) 1600 calories or below
2) no sugar
3) walk or gym 3x this week
4) be a stretchy mama
5) talk less, listen more
6) get along with DD
7) be grateful for what I have
8) have fun

Mike, DH built me some fantastic pantry shelves in the basement, enough to hold 1,000 quart jars. Since I only have about 500 jars there is plenty of room for all the canning plus the other items I stock up on. It seems crazy to some people that we put in stores like that, but I only spend $50-$100/week on groceries, to feed 5 full time people, plus the part-time kids that are here after school. It's nuts, but it helps ends meet.

Cassie, when I bought the bushel of peaches I was dreading putting them up, but my girls actually helped me and once the fruit was blanched the skins peeled right off, the kids did it by hand wearing rubber gloves. The peaches were perfect for canning, not too big, not too small, not overly ripe, so it went quickly. I think we peeled all of them in less than 2 hours and since I used apple juice, all we had to do was bring it to a boil, which took maybe 5 mins. I also wash my jars in the "sterilize" cycle, so they go straight from the dishwasher into the hot water without incident. All in all I think it took 3 hours start to finish.

dar n, A blast is basically a large cup filled with vanilla soft serve ice cream, then something even worst is blended into it, like candy bars, cookies, syrup, etc etc. In the case of Mike's favorite blast, it's Butterfingers probably a King sized bar's worth.

The salsa recipe is fairly easy, I use an 18 quart roaster oven as my pot, but you can use whatever you have so long as it's not cast aluminum or slightly rusty (you have to be careful of heavy metal contamination as it can spoil the goods really quickly). I used to use my large crock pot which made 6 quarts of salsa. Generally speaking you can use any sized pot for the cooking, just multiply the recipe for the right size. You can also skip canning and just make a quart or so, cool it and put it in a containers in the fridge (it might also freeze well IDK). This is per quart of salsa:

3 cups diced tomatoes (you must core the stem out and shave the blossom end off). I don't peel my tomatoes, because we like it chunky, but if you like a smoother texture blanch and peel the tomatoes.
1/2 cup diced onions (white or sweet, whatever is on sale or growing in the garden)
1/2 cup diced sweet peppers (green, red, purple, orange, banana whatever you have)
1-5 hot peppers (depending on the heat you want to achieve) jalapenos and cayenne work well separately or combined, but any hot pepper will work.
1/2 tsp canning or sea salt (must be free of iodine and anti-caking agents)
2-3 tsp cumin
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp course ground black pepper
2-4 oz tomato paste (the more paste used the thicker the end product)
1/2 tsp sugar (optional)

Chop all the vegetables and combine in some sort of cooker, heat to a boil, add the spices and paste, let simmer until the tomatoes are falling apart, the onions are clear and the paste is fulling incorporated, 20 min to 3 hours (depending on what you use to heat it, slow cooker vs. range). The longer the simmer time, the thicker and smoother the finished product. Pack hot salsa in hot jars (roll clean jars in boiling water). Place heated 2 piece lid on jar, finger tighten, gently rolling water bathe, 25 for quarts, 20 min for pints. Remove jars from hot water, set on double towel, 2" apart, cool for 24 hours. Store in cool dark place. If a lid does not seal, place jar in refrigerator and eat within 2 weeks. I usually make the salsa in pint jars, because the quarts are sometimes a lot of salsa to consume in a month, especially the really hot stuff I make for DH. Most of the time if we open a pint jar, the whole thing gets eaten and I don't have to worry about how long it's been in the fridge .

To stay on plan here are a few things I order when we go out to eat: Hamburger or turkey burger no bun (or whole wheat if available), Veggie burger or portabella burger, bowl of chili, grilled chicken sandwich no bun, and if there is a side choice other than "fries" I'll get that, like the fruit cup or the cottage cheese, even apple sauce is way better than fries. Another thing I like to do is order something and share it with one of the kids, it's cheaper and only 1/2 the calories, or if the kids aren't with me I just get a 1/2 order. I also rarely order anything fried, and we usually skip appetizers and dessert, and I limit myself to one drink.

Yuna, I have that same problem with weekends, they are all different and I never really know where I'm going to be, or what/when we're going to eat. Planning isn't always an option, so I just try to beware of portion control and steer clear of the "extras" like sauces, dressings and dips.

Well, I'm pretty bummed this morning.

I injured my back on Saturday - I think it's just a pulled/cramped muscle, but it's in my lower back and very annoying. I was going to try to work out Sunday, but in the end I decided against it - I didn't want to risk a real injury rather than being sidelined for only a couple of days. So, I missed my exercise goal (but I made my calorie and deficit goals anyway).

The back still hurts this morning but is more manageable and the pain is only on the right side rather than the whole thing, so I've got hopes that in 1-2 days I'll be back on the exercise wagon. In the meantime, I'll try to make the best food choices I can.

My weigh-in days are Mondays and Fridays. I was expecting a slight bounce-back from my low of 163.8 simply because I lost the weight quickly and that seems to be how my body works, but I was really, really disheartened to see 166.1 on the scale this morning I'm trying to tell myself that it's probably high because my back has some inflammation, so it's just a type of water-weight, but it's not good to see that number rise so much! I feel like I've lost all progress. Take that along with having to come into work early this morning, plus a long day ahead, a sick BF who is getting on my last nerve, and the stupid pain, and I'm trying very hard not to be a grumpy bear today.

I guess it's going to have to be a BIDIA day - because no matter my mood or setbacks, things still need to be done. This whole week, in fact, is going to be a really stressful work-week.

So I'm in - and here are my goals this week:

Food/Exercise/Lifestyle Goals

1) Achieve an average between 1200-1400 calories for the week (no single day over 1500)
2) Exercise as much as my back will allow.
3) Achieve a deficit of at least 5,000 calories
4) 80 oz. of water daily
5) Eat a serving of fruit or vegetables with every meal
6) Average 30% protein on the pie chart for the week
7) No more than 2 lunches and 2 dinners out
8) Weigh in only on Monday and Friday

Other Life Stuff

1) Make an effort on my appearance every day
2) Clean out my car - that means scrubbing and vacuuming, too.
3) Remember to take some "time out time" for myself every day
4) Cross-stitch.

I have to do this quick...it's already 10:15 and I'm done working at 11 today to go to an eye dr appt this afternoon. It's either try to make up the 2 hrs that I would need or take a half vacation day .... you don't have to tempt me twice to only work a half day!

This weekend was pretty good. It wasn't perfect but I didn't go overboard. We hit a chinese buffet on the way home from a six hr (round trip) road trip to look at a project car for the hubby. He did not bring it home BTW. I made my plates with mostly veggies that I picked out of the pepper steak and chicken brocolli and small amounts of the meats. I know the sauces aren't great but hey..you do what you can. Then Sunday, I wanted a big breakfast. We haven't had one in forever so we did brunch. I made...food porn you can highlight if you want to read it...

Scrambled eggs on a plate, topped with seasoned diced potatoes, sausage gravy & shredded cheese. Hot buttered Pillsbury buttermilk biscuits on the side. Then for dinner I made buffalo wings in the oven with mac & cheese and zuccini.

So today I am holding onto about 1.5-2 lbs of water weight from yesterday...however I am still weighing in at 283.0 where last Monday I was 285.4. That is a 2.4lb loss with a possiblity of more than that to go in a day or two because Sunday I was down to 281.2 before all that eating! If I go back down to that .... it is my 50lb mark! So this week is going to be a strict one for me. I have to get there and hold onto it!

After the chinese buffet hubby surprised me by taking me pants shopping for work pants (slacks...no jeans at work). I bought 2 pairs. Fit very comfortably at size 24. I have never in my life owned dress pants with a button closure, they have all had elastic. I refused to buy elastic this time. I am so happy that I did. They look so nice and feel very good.

Sunday I worked on the bathroom for a while. Took out any nails, screws, hooks that don't belong and started spackling them and a few other little marks in the drywall. The border that goes around the center of the room is the hardest border I have ever tried to remove. I worked for 1-1/2 hrs and got only about 6-8 ft done! Little scraps at a time. Hardly any peels off. I will be so proud when it is done though. I love a good challenge! I bought the new border that goes back up on Saturday.

Fitness/Health Goals
1. 80oz water
2. Walk on lunch when at work M: leaving work at 11,
3. Work out Weds-Sun M, Tu: N/A,
4. No stuffing junk in my mouth

Life Goals
1. Work on cross-stitch at least 1/2 hr nightly
2. Finish prepping bathroom for paint
3. Laundry!
4. Find something to clean every day

Amy...your canning sounds devine! I did it a few times when I was a SAHW but can never seem to 'find the time' now. How great is your hubby to build shelves like that!

Yuna...you can do it. You seem to have a handle on getting some exercise in, now start really watching what you are eating and you will start to see your differences.

Mary...I'm in but I don't know what you are going to do to me if I start to slack.
