Rose, I wasn't implying you should ignore your sleep problem and not seek help. I just don't feel my own is worth pursuing. I've read many times and saw in a segment of the TV talk show "The Doctors" that our bodies melt fat when we're in sleep mode, so I believe our lack of sleep does truly cause you and me to lose weight ever so slowly compared with others. We may exceptions to the belief that lowering the carbs nets better sleep. I think, though, that the more carbs most people eat, the more they crave them. And I believe that's the reason for what is becoming more widely accepted as self-inflicted diabetes (there's a real medical term for that--just can't think of it right now) rather than hereditary diabetes. I tried meditation once just for relaxation, not for sleep improvement, but I couldn't turn off my brain enough to clear my mind of all thoughts. BWAAAHAHAHAHA! What a JOKE! Well at lease we USE our brains. Can't say that for some people I know.

Hi to the newbies and welcome to this thread, I was made very welcome by this amazing group of people and you can feel the support and kindness oozing from their responses. It heps a lot to have them there.

Hope. Sorry to hear about your precious mementoes being damaged, it says a lot that you can think about others misfortunes at this time. Glad you are safe.

Terri. Your new outfit sounds stunning, I'm not a girly girl either but I'm trying to be a little more feminine. At the moment I'm still not into skirts or dresses ( except winter ones to wear with boots) but my trousers and tops are softer and sexier without being too " busty serving wench"

Mary. I only hope I can manage to come home without gaining, but I don't think that is likely. I am so impressed that you did, many congrats.

Ok that's me, my partner is definitely taking the iPad so you may not have heard the last of me yet.
Thanks for the kind words and I love that bit about the busty serving wench. Too funny.

On a serious note, I discovered this when I got my HRM and I was doing P90X. I thought the HRM was faulty b/c I kept pegging it at 200 bpm (as high as it would read). I leater found that it was in fact accurate when I went to the gym and compared it to their machines, almost dead on up until I peg it at 200 bpm.

He did the stress test, and the funny thing is I was sitting there all hooked up and it was measuring my resting HR. The doctor comes in and the nurse tells me to get up and get on the tread mill. I stand up, and she blurts out "holy $#!t". I merely stood up and took 2 steps and my hr went from like 70 to 110 (I don't remember the exact #'s). Stress test was abnormal results. Echo cardiogram was normal results. He said that my heat is fine but something is triggering it to beat fast.

He asked if I've recently lost weight. I said yes, but b/c of diet and exercise. He hear yes and assumes that I have an endocrine problem. He orders blood work and he reads the results and feels that my iron level is too low and thyroid function is too high.

He send me to an endocrinologist. I see the endocrinologist and he tells me, "I hear you have an elevated heart rate and unexplained weight loss". I said yes and no. I explain the weight loss and he reads my results. He said my thyroid level are pretty much normal or on the high end of the normal range but nothing to cause as HR of 200+. Iron level was fine. He orders more blood work. I do that and return to him with the same results. He says this is not a endocrine issue, it is fine.

So basically I went to see two guys that "practice" medicine and neither could figure out what is causing it.

Technically I've been cleared from both since neither could figure it out and for those that know how my brain works, you could guess the next step I took...

Now I just take it easy and I took out another life insurance policy on myself. Since I've been cleared from both and have no pending tests to complete I was able to get a preferred rating.

Wow it is intense your heart rate climbs liek that, wonder why. I like that two guys who "practice" medicine. You got that right.

Mern, LOL how is it possible that you and DH have been married FOREVER, and yet he buys the "I'm a stooopid girl" act? Are you blond by any chance? I think you need to make a sign for the bathroom that reads "When it's yellow let it mellow, when it's brown flush it down", in response to DH's new toilet flushing policy. That and get a new giant toilet side trash can, maybe one with wheels and a tight fitting lid.

Quinn, sorry to hear about you computer issues. The firewall at our house is insane and gets updated all the time, DH is an IT guy. We don't get viruses, but then again we also don't get some of the stuff we want like photos and funny emails.

Quinn, thanks for posting about your email being hacked. Same thing happened to my granddaughter and email was getting sent out from her address that had a link to a Canadian website selling Viagra and other sexually oriented products. She also just changed her password because she had given her address to colleges and placed to which she had applied for part time jobs. Hope changing the password is all she and you need.

Amy! Your check-in yesterday looked really great to me! All that exercise, water and a 1337 deficit! 100 over in calories isn't all that bad. Yeah, your protein could have been higher, but sometimes that's hard to achieve myself when I'm really busy. I gotta run for now--have to take my live-in granddaughter to her boyfriend's house so she can help his mom at the concession stand for bf's soccer game. Will be back later.

Mike, sorry to hear that FSA didn't make a pass at you. Um, maybe you just need to act a little crazier, bark a little, chase your tail, wave your pimp cane around, all while wearing your pimp hat? That outta do it.

Cassie, sorry to hear that your visit to the doc was such a PITA. My doc normally goes with oral steroids, which are equally bad. Hope you get to feeling better soon. HR totally plays a roll in metabolism. I watched a documentary on hummingbirds, where the scientists were demonstrating how a hummingbird’s body temperature cools as it sleeps to help balance out the fact that they often burn more calories than they can consume. Ever since I’ve been putting too many blankets on my bed, no sense in getting too cold at night and not burning calories. Right?

Mike, I’ve not heard the term “banana sling” before, but a few years ago for Christmas my MIL bought me a “banana hammock”, to keep the bananas fresher longer. Looks much like your pic, works like a charm. LOL. Congrats on making your goal, that’s awesome. I like your shirt, but shouldn’t it read “TSA, Don’t LOOK at my JUNK”? I thought the big issue was the new body scanners. On a more serious note, have you ever been checked for A-fib? DH had something similar happen when he exercised or was tired and it turned out to be a-fib, which looks very different in a healthy guy vs. a less healthy guy.

Hunny, fantastic job on the run. I’m very jealous, my legs and lungs can run, my bladder however is less capable.

Mern, keep us posted on the doctor visit. Oh to be a fly on the wall for that appointment, I’m sure the doc will come away having learned something. If not a new approach medically, then certainly something about good old fashioned moxie eh? I think juju is actually Voodoo terminology? My mother came back from New Orleans using it.

Um, Rose, if you have a second bottle of energy handy, I’d like one as well. Ugh, I’m dragging today. Thanks for missing me, it’s not the same without you here either. I’m sending “big fat drop” vibes your way, you certainly have one coming. Job sounds super cool. If you ever need a costume or prop girl, call me. Seriously I’ve done some really creepy stuff over the years.

Terri welcome back, you’re newfound enthusiasm is inspiring, thanks I need some! You’ve reinforced my instinct on “shopping therapy”, it really can help.

Mommiepretty, welcome aboard and being out of shape is not a huge problem. One of the regulars here, her name is Mern, started off with goals of “doing 5 minutes of the walking DVD”. And she’s worked up from there, now she’s hitting the Y like 3-4 nights a week. It just takes some persistence, also once you get going the exercise gets a little addictive, okay not chocolate ice cream addictive, but you can look forward to it a little anyway. BTW salsa totally counts as a veggie, and it’s a great low-cal salad dressing to boot.

Kumochi, welcome back and congrats on possibly losing while you were on holiday! Whoo hooooo that’s pretty amazing. I totally hear you on the water. I had trouble with that all weekend, and hopefully once I get hydrated, a pound or two of this weight will fall off.

KLLOVESMF, believe me 194.5 is not as bad as it could have been. I let myself creep up to 244.6, and sadly I’m only 5’-2”!!!! You might find that 1,200 calories aren’t quite enough with all that exercise you have in mind, its okay to step back and reassess. I lost quite steadily at 1,500 with a similar amount of exercise.

Canary, LOL on “buy me dinner and drinks first”, I’ve said that exact same thing, but not to airport security. Recently I said it to a small pack of dogs that were licking my legs. I also yelled it at a fish that bit me in the girl parts, my MIL is still laughing over that one. I’m so sorry to hear about the water damage in your basement, stupid hurricane! How deep did the water get? We had a flood in our basement recently, but it was only about 6” deep, we lost a handful of things, none of them precious. Well I guess the bright side of that giant circling cloud of doom is that once you get done sorting out the basement it’s going to be really clean and uncluttered. Still very sad, hopefully you can find a way to replace some of the most precious things, photos and such. Good luck honey, big hugs your way.

Ugh quinn, computer viruses are the WORST!!! We had a “worm” awhile back, I haven’t been using e-mail much ever since. I’ve lost faith in it. Well that and now sometimes we get 3,000+ emails/day. YIKES!
OK that part aobut the fish was disturbing. What the hell kind of fish is that? We had at least 2-3 feet of stading water. As far as my basement actually getting clean and uncluttered...well, let's not get crazy. You have not meant my DH but yeah we tossed a lotof stuff, some very sentimental. But htigns are just things and everyone is OK.

And what's wrong with dressing like a busty serving wench? Uh? Uh? LOL.

I'm having fashion issues lately, it's like everything for the last 2-3 seasons has been designed to showcase the cleavage. Which on a normal height woman is fine, but when you're short it quickly crosses over into indecent exposure - a CRIME in Michigan.

Goals:
1) 1600 cals or less: HA! HAHA
2) stretch: Nope
3) drink water: well some...
4) play nice with others: HA HAHA DD will tell you there are rabid racoons that play nicer than I
5) dig out from Irene induced mess in basement: Yes but I pulled out my back and knee and then the fibro kicked in...

Amy, nothin wrong with the busty serving wench ... "it's a look" as my m-i-l used to say..unless it gets you arrested...

Mike, sorry the TSA didn't get to second base with you. Maybe next time? Try to look guilty perhaps? Like your hiding something. Maybe take your cue from this guy. LOL! Man Wearing Pants Filled With Snakes Stopped by TSA
Maybe I'll have better luck next time with TSA.

A little nerve wracking that, but he's better now so it must have been the right thing to do for him.
No, I didn't do that test. May have to check that out.

I tried chasing my tail but couldn't find it... maybe it was too cold in the airport.
