Default Welcome Luda

Luda: glad you made it back to FitDay. I am fairly new here too so I don't know how long the threads/forums have been here but boy are they a life support sometimes. When down I read, when up I write. Good place to come and share, ask questions and have a good hardly belly laugh sometimes too.

gamegal: I, too, do not like the idea of thundering down the streets - even for 60 seconds - to be mocked. I have, though, thundered around my trailer park twice - in the dark - about 6am! So, I am setting a goal to do C2-5K when I reach UNDER the 200# mark. I figure by then I really will be 'full of myself' and need a little humility! (I'm kinda like that NOW (he he) ) I envy you that you have a dog to walk. I am tempted to go door to door and offer to walk the neighbours dogs - my cat does walk on a leash but he always wants to climb trees! Darn cat!

Welcome Luda! When I first joined FitDay, back in 2006, the forums were not a part of the site -- and YES! they are a wonderful aid to staying positive, getting support and achieving success. Glad to have you back and with us in the 100+ group.

I'm still amazed at how quickly September has breezed by. Reflecting upon the month, I see areas of my healthier lifestyle where I can improve (mainly with consistency of performing exercise and curbing the late night snacking), as well as be proud for achieving my mini-goal this month and continuing to make wise food choices.

DH has already warned me to 'eat lightly' this coming week because he wants to go to an Oktoberfest celebration on 10/2 that will have lots of challenging foods. LOL

I see it as another opportunity to test my resolve, and practice portion control, while enjoying a special day together. So we'll see how that goes.

Wishing you all a mellow Sunday afternoon, and great week ahead!

Hugs,
Smoosh

Thumbs up Sunday weigh-in

Well I made it - my first goal is accomplished with 4 days to spare. I have not only reached my 230# goal but skipped right past it to 229# this morning. Did a 8 week check on measurements and they are now at 15.5" lost and my total weight loss at 18#. I am over the moon with these results.

I am now starting a binder with my graphs, charts, goals and food logs to show the MD the next time I see her. I am doing this along with my blood glucose readings to see how I am progressing. My medical goal is to reduce if not eliminate my diabetes & high blood pressure medications with weight loss and change in lifestyle. My MD, Jennifer, says she wants to see it on paper - I'll give her PAPER! Young thing won't know what hit her. I am her first diabetes patient so she is happy with my progress so far.

Christmas goal is looking do-able but with winter coming will have to change my exercise program of just walking to indoor stuff. I checked out a local gym for just using the threadmill - $15 drop in fee PER DAY! They really want $26 every two weeks but at that cost I might as well buy a used treadmill. Still, since I am to cheap to buy equipment, I will 'walk the mall' again this winter - just increase my number of laps.

smoosh: How about a 'two-bite' weekend at Otoberfest? Let the DH buy food and give you two bites. I do this with my DH went we go out to dinner and I want a dessert - he gets one and lets me have one bite (he is cheap with his dessert! ) Is there anyway you can go online and figure out the calories and foods that are going to be there and enter them into that day ahead of time?

LUDA SAID: am new to the Fitday forums - however not to Fitday. In 2005, Fitday was a great help during my first weight loss adventure. I started at 214 in June '05 and ended up at 173 in Mar '06 by eating right, exercising and logging it here of course. Then, I completely fell off the wagon.. and I fell HARD! I feel like if I would have been participating in the forums at the time (did they exist?) it might have helped me stay on track - so here I am. My goal was 150, I am 5'9, and today I would just be happy to be back to 173 . . .

Luda -- I have been where you are as well. I got to 163 and fell off the wagon too. And I HAD a support group who -- when they saw me gaining, became almost GIDDY with my failings -- which puzzled me until I realize how much I had become a militant SNOB about my success which brings me to . . .

GameGal -- I am amazed at how catty people are about weight. It is still the MOST accepted prejudice in our country. But I want YOU to know that since my militant loss of weight and subsequent re-gain that EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE AN OVERWEIGHT WOMAN RUNNING, WALKING or doing anything I APPLAUD HER EFFORTS. SO everytime you feel like you're "thundering" around -- know that the thunder you hear is my applause for you and just keep running!!!

I hope this is a place where we will always support each others successes, and treat any backsliding with LOVING, FIRM and KIND support to help the person turn it around.

AS FOR ME -- Yesterday I was an an event all day that left lots of "untouchable" food at my fingertips. But I brought my incredible thai flavored chicken soup with me and didn't even TOUCH the carb-porn laying around. I'm really proud of that. I'm also going to self-correct somehow. I got home and was exhausted so I ate and ate and ate and ate -- soup and salad again, but too much. I have to figure out a way to not equate "I'm so tired" with "I need to feed the tired." Any ideas????

Looking forward to your input on how to combat replacing tired with eating and combatting late night eating. What will give me MORE COMFORT than food?????!!!!! Need help here.

SMOOCH -- Love seeing your losses from August to September. That is SOOOOO encouraging to me!

CARREN -- Love your binder idea and am doing something the same as well with my therapist/lifecoach. Great job.

Ang- don't know if this applies but since you were out all day it might. sometims when we are tired and feel hungry we are really thirsty. I was told to drink at least 16 oz of water and see if I feel better before eating anything. sometimes we are dehydrated and don't know it. Good luck.

Afternoon ladies, well we survived the slumber party, but it was a near thing. The kids and adults actually got a little sleep, around 1:00-2:00 I made them all get "comfy" and we turned the lights down, and they all got a bit of shut-eye. I came downstairs this morning to find our lower level a foot deep in rubble and deeper than that in some spots. No lie, the debris was seriously that deep. So far we've reclaimed the kitchen and living room, but the den is altogether still buried, and I'm afraid to look into the girl's bedrooms....

On a side note, I had made all those plans for a nearly junk-free party only to get completely sabotaged by my own husband! I'm still reeling over that one. Our plan was to walk the kids down to the local theater to watch a play then to march them back home for pizza, cake and ice cream. DH skipped the play because we were still waiting for a couple of kids, then while we were gone he went shopping and bought stuff to make hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill, along with bags of chips and some candy? When I was stunned by the shopping trip (so not like him) he basically said that we had all these kids and it didn't seem like we had enough food to feed them all? No lie, I have 10 pounds of veggies, a gallon of low fat dip, a whole watermelon and a 32 cup bowl brimming over the top with fresh fruit, 12 boxes of microwave popcorn, and he didn't see any FOOD? Wow, talk about being pre-conditioned. I totally did not see that coming, he doesn't even eat hot dogs or chips. On a positive note, they only ate one bag of chips, the other one is going back to the store, along with 3 packages of hot dogs and some white hot dog buns....

As for running where other people can see you, I can totally relate to being self conscience about exercising in front of others. I used to wait until DH left for work before starting my workout, but I've had to give up being shy, it was too easy to take it from "shy" to "why" (why bother? that is), especially now that I have to get the kids up and out the door for school the window between him leaving for the day and the kids getting up is non-existent. Bite the bullet, come on out of the exercise closet, put on your hot pink running shorts with the bling bling on the booty and run down main street. Trust me on this - it's liberating, your scale will thank you and your body will applaud.

brandismom, I can totally relate to your issues with treating exhaustion with food. I've done that myself, I also treat headaches with food. The other day I have a sinus headache and spent the whole day reaching for munchies. Finally I ended up taking something for it, the headache cleared up and the munchies stopped. Not to point out the obvious, but have you considered treating exhaustion with sleep? Maybe just a 20-30 minute nap. Or how about exercise? I've found exercise helps me feel more energetic throughout the day, so I'm much less likely to grab food for extra energy. What will give you more comfort than food? Your skinny jeans hugging your curves just right, that's what!

carrenross, I'm so proud of you, 18 pounds is like 6 sacks of potatoes!!! Give yourself a squeeze for me. On the treadmill, for years I resisted purchasing a piece of equipment, we have a gym membership, so it seemed like a big waste of money, and where to put it? But I can't recommend it enough!!! It gives you the opportunity to capitalize on a few spare minutes here and there, on days you would otherwise have to skip going to the gym for lack of time. 20 minutes isn't enough time to run up to the gym, lift weights and run back, but it's long enough to bring on a good sweat and drip all over the elliptical at home. Don't think of it as "spending", think of it as "investing" in a much better body and a healthy future. It's worth every cent.

luda, welcome to the 100+ thread, it's a great place to check in. I here you on the yo-yo dieting, spent my life on that roller coaster too. It sounds like you're off to a great start. I started right about where you are now, only I'm about 7" shorter so I have to lose even more than you. Fitday has been a great help to me, so I look forward to hearing more from you.

ALAMEEKER SAYS: "I hate to point out the obvious but have you tried treating the exhaustion with sleep?"

BWAHAHAHAHAAH! That made me laugh so hard. What a thought! Actually going to bed when I'm tired. Especially when it is -- uhm -- bedtime?

You're right , of course. I just tend to be one of those people that thinks if I'm sleeping -- I'm missing out on something. But I need to put myself in the bed -- force myself to do it and then wake up earlier so I won't miss something THEN, rather than staying up doing nothing worthwhile until 1 a.m. and sleeping in later than I want too.

Okay -- so goal tonight is to come home, complete some neccessary errands and GO TO BED! NO TV, No snacking. If I am truly hungry, I"m going to put food in front of me ON THE TABLE not in front of the TV and eat it thoughtfully, then go to bed.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious :-)!

Awww thanks for all the support on the C2-K5 shy issue!! I may just try it ( at night!) I also have another confession I have not been going to the gym. I HAVE still been aquasizing but the gym thing at the college is not turning out so well. And its for 2 reasons. One in my controll, the other not.

The one in my control is I am discovering that I am a person who needs a specific class/time to show up. This 'go when it works best for you' isnt working, I put it off. The other that I have no control over is, even though when I signed up for the class, and I took the time to talk to different instructors/administrators that I had medical restrictions/limits and they all said its ok 'work at your own pace/do what you can', once the money was paid it all changed. Now, it has become a battle to even get into the gym.

This semester ( from what I hear ) is the 1st one where they require EVERYONE to do their 27 minute Circuit Resistance Training ( 13 pieces of equipment and 11 bikes) to their recording ( 30 second intervals and 7 seconds to change machines) before they can go on to use any other thing in the gym. Plain and simple.. I can not do most of the equipment. At least not at this time, but the keepers of the gate ( so to speak ) just keep telling me that if I dont do the circuit, I cant use anything else. I explain I have permission, I have doctors orders on file.. to no avail.. and so I basically have given up trying to gain entrance those times I actually get my butt there. So what I think I will do for now, since I dont really have an alternative at this point.. I still have like 6 weeks of cardio rehab ( which is all the same things as this gym has) at 3 times a week that I can still use. I just have to re-set it up and pick a time. ( It IS like a reg. class at a certain time.) So my intent, since I feel like I have failed miserably, is to do that tomorrow (Monday) and get back into this week!

brandismom - what else gives you the same comfort feelings? A good movie? A hot shower? A backrub by your DH? Naps work too lol.

carren - nice job on the loss!!

luda - welcome to the thread. It's a great one!

You and I, we have much in common, I hate to miss out on things too. I don't nap often, but there are times when it really is the best use of my time. I also swear by a little beddy-by read time. I always have a book on my bedside table, and that little bit of reading time helps settle me down and take my (worry wart) brain out of the equation for a little while, gets me relaxed and sleepy. It also gets my mind out of the refrigerator...
