Apple or Pear

I am a Pear. I am curious to know what shape people are and how their weight loss process is going thus far.

almeeker 06-19-2010 01:20 PM

When I started this I was an over blown hour glass. I'm still an hour glass, but more of a normal shaped one with fewer lumpy bits.

Jaybrodz 06-20-2010 11:33 AM

I'd kill to be a pear! My sis is and she used to get all the attention. I think I was called a brick house once. I know when I get smaller I will be my stick person self. I only turn into an apple when I am obese. When I had my kids, I went up to 212 with one and 220 with the other. I am very tall and 165 is my normal weight. (double amputee--that is why goal is so low) and I thought with my first one, I'd lose a big portion after the birth. Well they didn't allow me to get up to the scale for quite sometime and I had been receiving fluids and had eaten and I think I either weighed the same or close to it. I was back down to 175 in my six weeks lmaternity leave (military) because I thought I had to be and could fit in my uniform. At 6'1" it takes more than ten pounds to change sizes. I mean I have the coke bottle shape but it is on such a longer body. My daughter is the same size I was but she has it goin' on because she is about 5'5 and boy is she a nice coke bottle, so Almeeker, if you got it use it and be proud. Poor me, I am more like Whitney Houston when I am slim.

cjohnson728 06-20-2010 12:16 PM

LOL, Jaynie; I would kill to not be a pear! It's hard to buy clothes...Sometimes I measure three different sizes...top, middle, and bottom! However, I think top and middle have equalled out (sadly, with a big loss from the top part :() and I may now just be two sizes. So whatever fits in the hips gapes in the waist.

My consolation is that it's supposedly healthier to have thigh, hip, and butt fat. If that's true, I will live forever :D.

vickytoria3112 06-20-2010 01:00 PM

I beleive I'm a pear. I always had hips, thighs, and butt. I just have more of it right now. I'm just trying to tone it down a bit so I can be easy on everyone's eyes.

mhibdon 06-20-2010 01:19 PM

I think I'm a pear. I've always had a 2:1 ratio between my butt and my bust, lol! Woot for wearing an A cup yet busting out of Sofi's!

If you think buying clothes to fit a pear is hard, I challenge you to find me a swimsuit. Keep in mind it has to be a size 10/12 (petite), with a size 36DDD cup (preferably with an underwire), and it can't be orange, yellow or brown. I like those colors just fine, but look horrible in them.

mhibdon 06-21-2010 12:48 AM

@ almeeker: Oh my goodness! Well,,, Bikini time? ^_~

MichelleKoren 06-21-2010 01:15 AM

apple or pear

I guess I am considered an hour glass b/c my boobs are the same measurements as my hips and my waist is smaller than both (only by 6 inches, though). Would that be right? However, I am a SHORT hour glass. I am only 5'2". And apparently if you are 5'2" you are expected to have no boobies and a 28" waist. I don't think I could have a 28" waist if I starved for 6 months. Because I can't get rid of my belly, what fits in the hips is too small in the waist. And I am NOT saying I don't have hips or butt. So, in essence, I have a CRAZY body shape.

Wylie7 06-21-2010 01:49 AM

I'm most definitely a pear. And I hear you on buying clothes. Before I reached my goal weight I couldn't wear dresses because I couldn't get any to fit my top and my hips. And if I didn't have just the right pants, I'd have to make sure that my shirt was exactly the right length.

I've done a lot of strength training on top to make my shoulders and back bigger to make me look like more of an hourglass shape and I really like the results.

tpribyl 06-21-2010 02:04 AM

Newbee who has questionable long legs.

I am a pear and I have very long legs. The sad thing is everyone looks at my 18 year old daughter and says "you have such long legs, who did you get those from?" I tell them "I have the long legs, their just so fat you can't tell".
Today is my first day :o

Unfortunately even if I get to my goal weight, it's not bikini time. Because I'm pretty sure there is a law in this state that says "thou shalt not have huge ugly stretch marks and wear a bikini in public". And if there isn't such a law, there should be... I do love it that you can buy the top and bottom separately now-a-days. Only problem is that it costs twice as much to buy it that way.

blackrhino2 06-21-2010 02:55 AM

i think i'm an hour glass bc I've got big boobs, and big thighs but a semi-small waist. I almost always have trouble squeezing my thighs into pants. It really gets me down. Then I try to think of them as strength and power and be proud of them. I'm trying to tone them up with lots of squats and lunges. I also have lots of spider veins. haha...oh well.

avelina 06-21-2010 03:04 AM

I'm an apple (the first one to post?). I carry much of my weight in my abdomen, which is embarrassing when people ask if I'm pregnant (I'm not!).

Luckygir15 06-21-2010 03:32 AM

I'm a pear and always have been. Practically no boobies (38B currently) I still fit into all my tops...no matter what, I'm always a "large" tank top, shirt, dress etc.... BUT when it comes to bottoms I'm always WAY bigger in my hips and thighs. I'm like a 16/18 pant size which just looks stupidly proportional to my smaller top size. The only thing redeeming about my pear shaped body is that I'm tall (5'9") and don't appear to weigh as much as I really do.

As a pear, I wear a TON of dresses during the summer to hide my big hips and thighs but still make me feel sexy.

These are my favorite "pear" favoring non hip hugging dresses that I love to wear. Hopefully these links will work... I LOVE to shop at VS!!! lol

Victoria's Secret - NEW! The Sequined Beach Dress

mambogirl81 06-21-2010 04:17 AM

Avelina, You have company. I'm an apple too. I carry most of my weight in my stomach, and I have nothing up top to help balance it out. Overall I look like a rectangle because there are no curves to break it all up.:( I think that is why I find weight loss slow and frustrating, because the stomach/waist seems to be the last place to want to give it up.

cjohnson728 06-21-2010 04:44 AM

OMG Luckygirl, if 38B is no boobies, I have negative boobies :(. 34A...how sad is that?

The only time I like that is that I can wear tops and bras with very little support when exercising and I don't feel like I've had to squeeze myself into a giant rubber band.

Almeeker, the separates swimsuits are a godsend. Not sure of the tops' size range but newport-news.com has a good selection and they are all really reasonably priced right now.

Pretty cool how different everyone is, and how we all have something we like and something we don't. Also goes to show that there is no such thing as a perfect body :)

Luckygir15 06-21-2010 05:02 AM

CJ: Once I loose all this weight I will be right there with you in the boobie department....they are definitely the first to go for me!

When I was at my skinniest I was a 34A No boobies for me in the horizon, but I do agree it is convenient not to have to wear a bra with absolutely everything. My favorite bra at the moment is the Nubra which sticks on and you can place them far apart and then clip them together for MAXIMUM cleavage...which I don't have naturally.

MollySue2 06-21-2010 06:16 AM

I believe I'm a pear as well. I may have pretty narrow hips, but I always gain in my butt and in my thighs and calves, but never in my boobs. I look chunky in short shorts, but tiny in tshirts. In order to look halfway proportionate, I have to be on the rather skinny side, which means that my boobs shrink further (Cassie, I feel you!!). Imagine my joy when my boyfriend treated me to a beautiful white Hugo Boss blouse today and the shop assistant recomended to get a smaller size (a joy in itself), but was worried that my boobs might pop out!!! Can I just say that I love Hugo Boss? :)

I'm an hourglass with a pot belly, more apple-ish when I'm heavy.

But what about that Ani Difranco lyric of "I've got highways for stretch marks to see where I've grown"? I prefer to view my stretch marks and scars as "mile markers" to remind me where I've been, who I have been, and where I want to go. I applaud women who flaunt their skin, with or without stretch marks.

leason75581 06-21-2010 12:35 PM

that's a good question, I guess i'm a lumpy pear with a few bruises.:D currently I'm 200 lbs, 5'4 and busty!. My weight goal is 170. Fortunately, my weight sits well on me. I look like I'm 170, so thirty lbs will look like 140. I just joined this site. I hope it helps. I'm a rollarcoaster-up and down!!:(

leason75581 06-21-2010 12:37 PM

i agree!! but if my stretch marks decided to hit the road, i wouldn't miss them. :)

Thanks for the website, I'll be checking it out. There is such a thing as a perfect body. I fitted her once for a competition gown, after which she was crowned Miss Michigan. Unfortunately, she didn't see her figure as perfect because she had always been told to diet diet diet. Now that is much sadder than a 34A cup. Seriously.

Yes, I'm an hourglass with a pot belly, that's exactly it. And I'm loving the idea of a miraclesuit, that's sounds like the perfect thing for me!

I'm not ashamed of my stretchmarks, they are badges of honor (of a sort), but seriously if I'm going to make a spectacle of myself at the beach I would rather do it with boobies, than with the road map that is my belly...

I am with you on that. I have had 2 kids and my body is a mess because of it. After I lose weight I will be healthier and feel better about myself but there is NO WAY I am getting into a bathing suit that shows off my midsection. I do wish there was a way to undo all the visual damage I have on my body but I've tried a lot of things and I'm pretty sure the stretch marks are here to stay. After I lose the weight I hope I look awesome IN my clothes.

I'm going to have to download that one, I've never heard of it. My husband says he likes my stretch marks, I don't really believe him. He says that he knows they are from the kids and he knows he is responsible for it, so he likes them. I DO NOT like them. They are everywhere. I guess my skin is not too stretchy. The are the worst on my hips. i have a few on my belly from when I was preggers. I also have them on my breasts which really sucks. When I had my kids I went from a barely B to a DD. When I quit breastfeeding they deflated down to a D. I am sure that now I am losing weight they will deflate more. I am a little scared about what losing weight will leave me with in terms of body image.

Lizzycritter 06-24-2010 11:32 AM

Most of my stretch marks are on my breasts, similar issue. With my first, I went from barely a B cup to spilling out of a DD and lactating:eek: at 5 months pregnant! The girls have never been the same. They look decent enough in a good fitting bra though. It's the texture of the skin that bothers me the most. I figure it's not too hard to find a supportive bikini top, easier than in a one piece usually. It's the bottoms that worry me. This pudge-gut of mine sits right above where low rise bottoms sit (evil evil creations IMO) so it looks like my belly flops over, making the pudge look 10 times worse. I think I could pull one off at goal weight though, IF I can find bottoms that sit high enough. Mostly I just want to see if I can still wear one. When I had the body, I lacked the confidence. Now that I have the confidence, I lack the body. Isn't that the way life goes?

Beachplum 06-27-2010 12:46 AM

I am an apple shape for sure! I loose the weight in my bottom half and I already have skinny long legs and a really small butt. I have stretch marks on my stomach only and tend to loose just a little weight in my boobs. 38C. stayed the same even when I was pregnant. :( (3 kids, the last one was a C sec)

Any other apples out there having a REALLY hard time loosing weight in the middle? I don't get it...it doesn't seem to move no matter how much excercise I am getting. and it is worse as I get older. sooo frustrating! Saturdays I walk 7 miles and during the week, m-f it is 3 miles everyday. I do love walking and walk the three miles in 45 min. so it is at a good clip, but it does nothing for my midsection. :(.

I have been faithful to my excercise regime for 4 months now and have only lost 10lbs. In my 30's I would have hit goal by now. grrrrr. (I am 48 and pre menopausal for sure!)

my starting weight is 190 I am 180 right now and my goal is 150. I have to change my signature from years ago, when I joined. BTW it is good to be back (somewhat...LOL)

alice6065 06-27-2010 06:54 AM

I guess I'm an hourglass with pear tendencies. As a senior in high school when I first thought I was fat at 140 lbs, my measurements were 36-28-38. Now I'm 44-39-47.5 - fitting problems are button blouses (minimizer bra helps) and pants that are big enough in the hips without being too big in the waist.

hmmm . . . I guess that's not the first time I thought I was fat. I was mortified to have it announced to the eighth grade PE class when I hit 100 lbs. Looking back on it I think it was meant to be a congratulations to a growing girl for hitting a milestone but that's not what it felt like at the time.

iceland77 07-01-2010 06:05 AM

Luckygirl!
Sweet. Love the dresses. I think I'm going to buy one. :) Thanks for the links.

LittleElse 07-04-2010 09:47 PM

Apparently I'm a skittle. I have a big bust, a small waist and big hips with fat legs. It's a nightmare shopping for pants. They're normally at least 4 inches too big on the waist to fit my big legs! Hate it, hate it, hate it!.

reehenry 07-05-2010 12:05 AM

hour glass - pretty happy with that
:D

NessaSonic 07-05-2010 01:04 AM

I wish I knew of a site where you could type in your numbers and find out. I think I'm a pear or hourglass- my measurements:

bust-43
waist-34
hips-44

anyone know? I've always considered myself a pear...

iceland77 07-05-2010 12:54 PM

body types

Hi NessaSonic,

You are an pear and an hourglass, and most likely a mesomorph.

There are various classifications on body typing.

First, there is the standard endomorph (rounder and soft, mass in the abdominal area), ectomorph (delicate and lean, kind of like a ruler shape), and mesomorph (athletic and hourglass). This classification is mainly used for purposes dealing with muscle building. see: Body Type Information - Ectomorph, Mesomorph, Endomorph, also Body Type | Ectomorph, Mesomorph, Endomorph, and http://liftforlife.com/content/bodyb...orph-endomorph

Second, there is the more disease/medical classification, depending upon hip-to-waist ratio. This one only deals with apple (over a .8 ratio) or pear type (under .8). see: The Most Accurate Waist to Hip Ratio Calculator

Third, there is the more general shaping classification of your body, the cone(aka triangle, or apple)/ruler/spoon(aka pear)/hourglass. This typing could also be seen as an updated version of the first group. see: Body Shape Calculator | Ruler, Hourglass, Spoon, Cone Shape, or Four Body Shapes: Hourglass, Ruler, Spoon, Cone

http://www.womansmagazine.net/wp-con...ody-shapes.gif

Hope this helps. :)

I'm an inverted mobius strip. :D

Laribeanberry 07-08-2010 11:08 AM

I am an overblown hour glass.

me2forever 07-30-2010 12:43 PM

I think I am a Pear. Starting weight 171 7/16/10.
7/30/10 weight 166.

Small shoulders, short waisted, hippie. 5'2 so probably should weight 110-130 range. At my age (68) I will take 140 and be happy.

crazycat0221 07-31-2010 10:17 AM

I'm 5' 3"....very large hour glass....with a crack in the back. lol

FatApple03 08-02-2010 01:19 PM

I think underneath this I'm an hour glass... I say that because I'm fairly proportional just my hips are a little larger, add to that a long stomach, I'm thankful it doesn't stick out.

But my weight is weird. At 5'3" and 250lbs even my doctor doesn't know how I am about a women's 18in pants and 14 in shirts. he just blames it on ethnicity.
