Do food commercials ever make you want to indulge yourself

Taco Bell is killing me with the new doritos tacos. Whoever thought of making tacos with a dorito shell is brilliant. Whenever the commercial comes on I have to leave the room because it is like putting a stripper in front of me. I have never tried the doritos tacos and I never will but damn it looks nice.

Haha!

I've gotten a bit de-sensitized to it over time, but once in awhile, if I am hungry and a food commercial comes on at the right time, it certainly does have a hypnotizing effect! I think what still gets me the most is pizza commercials. Pizza and I have a love affair; it wants me to come back ;)

My real weakness is that I often watch cooking shows, for ideas and techniques, and the food always looks so delicious after it's done. Further, cooking shows don't usually put an emphasis on "calories" and "health!"

Oh yes, I hate burgers, never want one, and yet, even they filling up a screen can make me want one.

I subscribe to Bon Appetit, love reading and drooling, and sometimes cook from it. A recent issue had an ad for Lindt Chocolate Excellence bars. I ended up buying one just based on the ad generated craving (well, at least it wasn't a car I impulse bought based on an ad!) - I've been able to eat a small amount a day, but really, I know better!

Food Commercials

Oh yes--and beautifully placed magazine ads--I try to restrain myself however--Nancy;)

Yes, and some ads directly undercut a healthy eating philosophy. One I saw recently (I think for a credit card) had the tag line "because a meal isn't always about food." Well, to our bodies a meal IS about food, and many of us are trying hard to make eating about hunger and nutrition, so we aren't overeating out of social pressure or emotional needs. It isn't an accident that Big Food food is addictive and triggers cravings - it is engineered to do just that.

Definitely yes. Also, it always seems that the better I'm doing with my diet, the more 2x1 pizza offer adds appear in my neighbourhood... Maybe my dad's sabotaging has gone a bit too far, lol.

the arby's commercials get to me

Everywhere we go we cant get away from junk food. There should be more emphasis put on the healthy diet and lifestyle. Its all just too easily available and at ridiculous cheap prices. If they did the same to the healthy food and stuff thats good for us. Making it all look just as appetising- (yep i know it doesnt look quite as good with a salad) But id like to see them at least try it.

I also love watching cooking shows- all day long when ive got a day in the house! This just makes my appetite soar- for everything!

I watch Food Network shows as "food porn". I watch Cupcake Wars, Challenge, Good Eats, and Unwrapped. It makes me want to eat sweets, but I usually don't. I can almost taste the food as I'm watching it get made, but after the show is done, I don't really feel the need to go eat cupcakes or anything.

It's odd, but it also gives me strength to resist indulging.
