Thermostat keeps resetting itself

Hi everyone! My thermostat keeps resetting back to default settings every few hours. I already changed the batteries, but it still loses its schedule. Could this be a wiring issue or something with the HVAC system itself? Any ideas before I call for help?

Hey! That issue usually points to a power interruption or control board problem. Some thermostats lose memory if the wiring isn’t supplying consistent voltage, especially after power flickers or surges. You can check for loose connections at the base plate, but if that doesn’t solve it, the main system may be cutting power intermittently. It’s best to have a licensed technician take a look. Astera Services https://www.asteraservice.com/ specializes in heating, cooling and appliance installing and repair, and they can quickly pinpoint whether the fault lies in the thermostat wiring or HVAC control circuit. Fixing it now prevents short-cycling that wastes energy and strains components.

I’ve seen this happen when the thermostat isn’t getting consistent power, even if the batteries are new. It could be loose wiring or a problem with how it’s connected to the HVAC system, so it’s worth checking before it turns into a bigger issue.

That kind of thermostat behavior can be frustrating, especially when it keeps losing the schedule after batteries are replaced. Sometimes the issue comes from wiring problems or a control board that is not holding settings properly. I had a similar situation and found it helpful to consult Product Air Heating, Cooling, and Electric since they work around Marysville, WA and understand HVAC systems common to the Pacific Northwest. Getting a proper check can prevent bigger issues later.
