Hello Everyone! I am brand new to this site and, besides hoping to lose close to 80 lbs, I am hoping to make new friends. I am probably older than most people on the site (in my mid 50s) and retired. I have had great difficulty in the last 10 years losing weight - the yo-yo effect! - due to family stresses and loss of employment. Poor excuses I know but with some support from you I may just succeed:)

I love the screen name. I am new to the site as well. I am hoping to lose 80lbs. I have a chronic illness so excersize has been on my backburner. It is time for me to take control. I hope as newbies we can motivate each other!!

Welcome! Exercise is an important part of getting fit, but the reality is that most weight loss occurs in the kitchen (or wherever you eat). If you can't (or don't choose to) exercise, then you need to be really strict in keeping a daily calorie deficit through consuming less calories. In fact, every single weight loss solution (with the exception of surgically removing fat) revolves around this. No matter how the "diet" is packaged, your calorie intake must somehow not exceed your calorie burn.

So, come up with a calorie level that you can live with, made up of "good" foods, that is less than your calculated burn. Track it every day, religiously, and you'll lose weight.

Regards,
Michael
