Twin mama from Michigan

Hi everyone! I'm a 29 year old mom of twin boys age 1.5 years old. Trying to get back in shape and pay more attention to what I am consuming.
Will be keeping track on this website because I have never counted calories before.
Any suggestions??
Plan 140-145 lbs
Would like to get to 125-130 lbs

Using calorie counting, slim fast, and starting to exercise including dance with my boys, 30 day shred video, and walks once spring hits. Lol

Welcome fellow twin mom! I have 4yr old twin girls. Good for you, for starting this life change. I follow the Weight Watcher plan and workout utilizing the Wii fitness programs. So far, it's kicking my butt! :p
I was humiliated when I really saw what shape I had allowed myself to get in. Buuuuuut, we've started!

I'm also 29. I started at 170lbs and have lost 2!

It's great to have a network of friends. Let's share in the up's and down's. We all need someone to be accountable to.

Good luck!
Jessica

Thanks jessica. My name is Casey. Hands are very full as you know. I am utilizing nap time and bedtime as exercise times. Thinking of also joining curves 2-3 days a week for something different while gam watches boys. Just started.. Ate lunch that I didn't want to because the boys didn't want to eat the turkey sandwich I made them. Lol was going to have something with less calories now I am already up to 900 calories and it's already noon. How many calories are you allowing???

mrsz82303 02-09-2011 06:04 AM

How do I figure out how many calories I should have to lose weight??

almeeker 02-09-2011 06:15 AM

Everybody is different, so it takes a little to figure out how many calories you need to lose. Go through the "Weigh Goal" tab and it will run through it for you and give you an estimate. There are other calculators on-line. And as a woman you have some built-in hormonal things that will make a monthly impact... So for women it's a little trickier than just math. Also the composition of your calories is important, grams of protein, grams of fat, carbs etc etc. People keep to different ratios depending on what they are trying to achieve, weight loss, reduced body fat, bulking muscle, etc etc.

Hey, I have twins too about the same age: girls at 21 months. They are a handful, and on the plus side, that does help burn calories, right?? Well, when I was losing my twin baby weight (before I got pregnant again ;) ) I stuck around 1400 calories and exercised in the morning before they woke up. It was almost impossible for me to do exercise during nap time back then because they had different sleep schedules. But that worked well for me and I would lose 2-3 lbs a week typically.

It sounds like you have a good plan! Especially dancing with your boys! I do that with my girls too sometimes and it really helps to just relieve all the stress of the day and they feel like they get more attention, too. Just keep track of what you are doing and eating and in a week or two, you will be able to see when you make the most progress. Good luck, and this is a great place for support!

Twinnermommy,
It is actually very hard for me to make this change. I have never counted calories in my life, but as you know after kids, and the closer I am to 30 my body is changing in everyday I thought it wouldn't. I danced for 13 years through my childhood with a tall lean body structure. Now I am more like a pear especially after twins.
How many kids do you have and what ages are they? They sound close in age.
Counting calories is hard, but this web site helps you maximize with the calories you can have. I am sticking to a 1400-1500 calorie intake. I do 30 day shred at nap time everyday whether I feel like it or not.

haha, you would think that we could burn a lot more calories because we have multiples! Curves is good. They use the circuit training method which is great for keeping the heart rate up and in turn burns those calories. It's hard to make healthy/nutritious things for kids to eat. Especially those under 5. I find myself making mac n cheese 2-3 times a week! YIKES I just usually have a salad while they indulge. haha
I try to hold myself to 1200-1300 calories. It all comes down to a food routine.
As for tracking calories, it's an eye opener. I've never really paid attention to how many carbs I was taking in. It turns out that more than half of my nutritional values is carbs! CRAZY!

Yeah it's really having me rethink my childrens choices in foods. I know they are kids so they can have junk and not worry. Well a little wont hurt.. But man I just went grouchy shopping to fill my fridge for low calorie filling options. Not much junk left in the house for kiddos.lol apples are the new fruit snacks. Did 30 day shred again today. Tomorrow I get a real treat. I have been invited to a gym by a friend for a workout. Willcheck that out even if it's once a week to go to it. Lol

cjohnson728 02-10-2011 07:06 AM

Hi Mrs. Z, welcome to FitDay. Almost nothing feels as good, as a mom, than knowing you are doing right nutritionally by your kids. So congrats to you!

BTW, did you mean to type "grouchy" shopping? I can't tell if it was on purpose or not but it was the best laugh I've had today :)

Twinnermommy 02-10-2011 09:00 AM

Casey

It sounds like we have a lot in common! I danced from age 2-18, so I was the same as you - I never though I would HAVE to work out. But luckily I enjoy exercising. Especially when I am listening to music - it's actually a lot like dancing, it just doesn't look as good haha. What type of dance did you do?

Well, I have three kids: 21 month old twins and a 4 week old baby. Yeah they are close together! We just wanted our kids to be able to be close friends. Luckily, my baby is so easy - he just grunts and stares and hardly ever cries. Anyway, right now I'm more trying to get in the habit of being healthy again than really lose a ton of weight.

Oh, and I have been trying to get my kids to eat real food, too... the best they will eat is when I make it look like something else haha. I made 'bumps on a log' with celery filled with peanut butter and put raisins on the top and told them it was ants on a log and they ate them all up and begged for more!! But most the time they will just throw their food at eachother or on the floor ;)

Alleys, how in the heck do you do 1200 calories and not starve.. I feel like I'm dying at 1400. No joke

mrsz82303 02-10-2011 12:48 PM

Twinner,
I did tap, jazz, ballet, modern. Jazz was the longest and my favorite!! I heard an exercise class called rumba is really fun dance type card exercise. My issue is I am a stay at home mom during the week with no day are options except the occasional mother in law to watch the kiddos. So exercise videos it is for now. Trying to steal one day a week away to a gym. Like i said I'm in Michigan so I am waiting for springs i can get the stroller outside. You will have a little onto wear and two to push this summer!!! Congrats on the baby!!!

mrsz82303 02-10-2011 12:50 PM

Lol no my stupid ipad auto corrects words.. And it picked that word. :-) glad to make you laugh though.
My fridge looks like a health freak took over!!! Lol no bad foods left except the kiddos scooby snacks!!

Twins too.

Hey, me too.

My twins are 12 years old and I am losing that same 35lbs that I gained. Mine are finally big enough for me to carve out time to exercise. I also have just started the Wii Fit plus routines and I can't believe how out of shape that I have let myself become.

Keep the encouragement coming.

I pretty much eat fruits/veggies all day with some protein mixed in. I don't drink anything other than water.

Hi Shuleran!
I just started the Wii fit/Active plus this week too. It's depressing to see how out of shape I am. OMG...I almost broke down in tears a couple of times. It's crazy though because I didn't feel this out of shape before. Does that make since? Anyway, today's the first day that I can actually walk with out looking like something is um, stuck up my rear.
Just take your time with it. If you need a break, just pause and rest up. Let me know how you're doing day by day. We can encourage eachother!:p

mrsz82303 02-14-2011 01:15 AM

Hey girls! One of my friends invited me to a gym last Friday and oh my did it kick my butt. I still have the Jillian michaels videos for naptime. I wish to to to a gym once or twice a week though encouraging and helps me push myself harder. So far away though... 35 miles to that gym.
Diet calorie countin is going well so far. Sticking to 1400-1500 aday still with 25 min of workout a day. I know that isn't much but I'll try and add mOre gradually updates please!!!!

mrsz82303 02-14-2011 01:24 AM

What do you ladies think of starting anothertopic called mamas of multiples :mom fitday Or something like that to support mamas of multiples.

alleysgurl 02-14-2011 03:46 AM

Mrs Z,
That's great that you made it to a gym! Keep up the good work!:p

This past weekend, I didn't do too bad. The only non healthy food I ate was a Midnight Truffle blizzard on Friday night! I didn't work out at all. However, I was on my feet and moving at a fast pace for about 8 hrs strait on Saturday. That has to account for SOMETHING. lol
We've been stuck on chicken salads this weekend. Kids ate them too!
I still haven't worked out this morning so I guess I better quit chatting here and get busy. :D

Happy Valentine's Day!!

OH! I mom's w/multiples thread is a great idea!

mrsz82303 02-14-2011 10:30 AM

Happy valentines day!! Today I splurged on 3 chocolate chip cookies. Feel terrible because I did great all week but like I said one bite and I can't stop when it comes to sugar. :-? Feel so guilty I'm working out once he boys are in be tonight bi also skipped naptime workout due to valentine nookie. Haha that's exercise right?? Anyways going to do two Jillian michaels videos tonight around 840pm. Gona kick it hard.

alleysgurl 02-15-2011 01:40 AM

Um, I splurged on about 6 chocolate covered, rolled in toasted coconut and or mixed nuts strawberries. YIKES! lol
But hey, if we're counting some valentine nookie as exercise, I probably burned it all off! haha I'm kidding...really..lol

Any interest in doing a weigh in today?

Shuleran 02-15-2011 04:41 AM

I think a moms of multiples thread would be great!!

I splurged a little on Valentines. I made a chocolate pie with a low fat reduced calorie Keeble graham crust, sugar free & fat free jello pudding pie filling, and low fat whip cream topping. It was great and only had a few calories. I was proud that I adapted!

This is Week 2 and I am still holding myself accountable to everything I put in my mouth. It is really making me pay attention and I have passed many things up that I would normally take because I didn't want to log it in to my food journal!!

alleysgurl 02-16-2011 02:25 AM

I think I would not have felt guilty at all for eating some of that chocolate pie! lol
Thats great that you made a low fat/low sugar desert!

The food journal has really helped me too. The little pie chart showing the fat, carbs and protein has been most eye opening for me. Really makes you re evaluate the types of food you eat.
