Default not sure what to do advice please

okay so here is my problem i have always been morbidly obese, when i was ten i was 200 pounds 14 300 pounds i didnt eat breakfast or lunch at school because i was too ashamed and constantly being mocked. but i kept piling on the pounds. when i was sixteen i started counting calories and walked i would lets say eat 2000 and burned 2000 by walking. i did that and dropped from 330 to 255 and then i hit a platuo for months so then i ate nothing but meat no carbs what so ever. i got down to 200 and then hit a platou. i ate nothing but meat for three years because i was scared of gaining the wait back and still lost nothing i stayed at 200. but then i got pregnant and couldn't eat like that anymore so i started to eat carbs again and gained 150 pounds in less than 9 months. now i am extremely over weight at 350 ponds but if i eat nothing but meat it wont be healthy and if i slip up again i will just gain it all back. i cant afford to eat healthy all the time it is so expensive. i am constantly hungry no matter what i eat an hour later my body just yearns for food. especially at night and it is so annoying because i dont want to eat but my stomach tries and take control over my mind. not sure how to lose weight healthy anymore. counting calories is good and all but my body just wont leave me alone. any advice? any one who has the same problem as me?

Hi

First of all you are right that just eating meat/ protein is not healthy!! Eating a well balanced diet is the best way to lose weight and keep it off long term. It doesn't always have to be expensive either (or hunger inducing). We are on a budget too and what works for us is eating smoothies and variations of veggie filled scrambled eggs. The cheapest way to do this is to buy as much of the veggies and fruits frozen (which is both cheaper and also can be far more nutritious because they are usually picked at their peak). Eggs and spinach are fairly cheap (only a few dollars for a dozen/large bag respectively) and both are incredibly filling and nutritious so I use the most of these in anything I make. Spinach cooks down a lot so I am able to mix in 3 cups at least.

Some things you didn't mention were whether you are doing any physical activity or if you have seen a doctor about your obesity (obviously that latter is expensive so in some cases not an option).

See your doctor again and try to work with him and/or a registered dietician to find a program that works for you. Insurance may cover this.

Reducing calories is the way to lose weight, and exercise is good for your health and also any dieting efforts. But someone who's working with you on a regular schedule would be able to 'troubleshoot' any problems you have with a diet and find out where your obstacles are.

Obstacles are, like you said, expense (there are ways to eat healthy on a budget but you'd have to tackle that week by week, if not day by day). Or stress (some people are working two jobs, raising families, dealing with eldercare, changes at work, etc.).

It's not a simple problem. It's a complicated problem. If there's a TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) in your area, they are a good healthy alternative to Weight Watchers - and extremely inexpensive. With a program like that, you can at least find where your strengths and weaknesses are and deal with them weekly with the support of the group.

Overeaters Anonymous is also a good program and inexpensive.

thank you but no i don't have insurance i don't have a job and my husband cant afford it my baby has insurance though but she gets ssi because she has severe brain damage. lots of appointments different specialist coming to the apartment can be expensive. but yes i do exercise on my bike go for walks and buy as much health food as possible and count calories i usually eat the same thing every day. but i am always hungry and the baby keeps me up all night thats when i get super hungry and eat anything i can get my hands on. i know it is because i am sleep deprived but i cant do much about that. then i go to sleep after eating everything with no time to burn it off. and to tired to care.

I have a special needs child also and her insurance paid for me to have counseling to help me with some issues--it fell under the guideline of anything that helped the caretaker stay functional was in the child's best interest as a healthy caretaker could provide better care. That might be an option for you.

I've recently lost over 100 pounds and I had to separate food from feelings. Food is for nourishment, nutrition, fuel ONLY--it has no emotions and it can't help me with my feelings either. Some say the act and ritual of eating relieves stress, but if so, then chewing gum will help relieve stress too! I've been to many celebration in my life that were 90% about the food and way less about the actual rituals, actions and emotions surrounding the celebration. Many times, I'm not sure any emotion was ever felt or expressed--we all just ate as much of the food as we could. Now I try to express, feel and deal with emotions in other ways than eating and try to keep eating as a means to give my body the nutrition it needs. So far, it's working for me! Hope this helps! Vicki
