Welcome, Sue!
Everyone has a different attitude about what helps them lose weight. In my own case, I use this site to track the food I eat (it goes in the food log). I have years' worth of custom foods in the custom food category but almost anything you eat will already be in the database. It's quite a shock to find out how easily you can eat over 2000 calories!
The reports are helpful when you track what you eat and how much you move (the activity tracking) and then you see what effect that has on your weight loss. If there's little effect, then you have to tweak something.
The calendar and weight report are useful. The calendar shows you how faithfully you log your foods and activities. The weight report shows how much progress you've made.
Little by little, you see that your habits change. If you're not losing weight, at least you know why!
There's a motivation section in the forums here that is also pretty inspiring!
