Don't focus on number on scale hmm trying, yes, no Went for bloodwork this morning since I have to go 2 weeks before my Dr visit. Fingers crossed that it will be good. At least they had no trouble getting it today (deep veins) and I didn't get the "pissy" woman--also a plus!! Jenn |
http://www.hooverwebdesign.com/free-...eting-card.gif Krystal! Wishing you much happiness in your new home in Denver and lots of fun time with your friend. So glad your ankle is sprained rather than broken! Wishing you freedom from pain and a speedy total recovery. Birthday cake is worth scale fluctuations. LOL
Jenn, best wishes on your bloodwork results. I'm really lucky. I go to my doctor's office for bloodwork and get my results the very next day. The blood goes from the doc's office by courier just 6 miles to the hospital lab and gets tested almost immediately upon arrival. The results go electronically from the lab to the doctors office and are posted the next day by the doctor's office into my online health management account along with one or two sentences of comments from my doc about the results. But I have a more in-depth in-person consultation about the results and a routine checkup a week after the bloodwork. UGH on the venipuncture. I, too, have deep veins and even when I'm well hydrated they have a hard time getting anything out of my arm. 90% of the time they wind up having to take it from the nice plump veins on top of my hand, but that doesn't bother me at all. Aw, glad you didn't get the pissy woman. The two at my doc's office are both really nice. Joanna, did you feel better and was your blood sugar better after possibly overtreating lows? If so, I would add that, in my opinion, the blood sugar rightfully takes priority over sticking to your calorie goals when it's too low. It's all about better health, so you did what you decided you needed and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Question to which I don't know the answer: does water intake affect your home blood sugar test? Kudos on your exercise this week! Way to go! And congrats on finishing Astro 534 and Phys 479. :) Hope, I'm gonna have to break into the Babelfish online translator to snoop at what you and Mike are conversing about. LOL Nah, just kidding. I figure it might be just between the two of you. What's the latest on your knee? |
Krystal - so much congratulations on your new job! Colorado looks to be a beautiful place, and I hope you settle in quickly.
Mern - The problem with over treating the lows is that my blood sugar then skyrockets, which makes sense, since I ate way more carbs than I needed for the lows. The problem was kind of that it went low, and I could sort of explain why that one happened, but then I randomly went low again later in the evening, and I was worried about going to bed and then dropping low again, since I have no reason why it did it a second time. In any case, I went to bed way high because of it. Now, I'm treating my second low for the day, and I almost never get them mid afternoon :( So annoying. I mean, I'm working out more, but I've been changing my insulin levels as I go along, so I'm not sure why they would all of a sudden be out of whack. Drinking water DOES decrease blood sugar - which makes sense, because if you've got more fluid in your blood stream, the sugar concentration will go down. But I haven't been drinking excessively more water than normal. Anyway, it's not like I haven't had weird things like this happen before. I'll just have to ride it out, keep adjusting, and try to stick with calorie limits as much as I can. Nice weigh-in, Mern, by the way - I see you peeking at it, down in there in your signature! :D |
DS and I went to the grocery this AM and I had time to do alot of label reading. I found whipped butter (only 2 ingredients). As long as we use it in moderation I think it is a good real food altenative (to the butter substitutes). I can't really think of anything we bought that had more than 5 ingredients! Except maybe the BBQ wing sauce, and yogurt (do bacteria count?). Need wing sauce for the super-bowl Sunday lasagne I plan to make this weekend :). Free day Sunday!
Daily vitamin: Y, Y, Y Nothing out of a box, can, bag, bottle or package that has more than 5 ingredients listed on the label: N, but if I change this to 75% then Y, N, Y Drink lots of H2O: Y, Y, Y Be mindful of portion sizes: Y, Y, Y Exercise 3x this week: Not yet. Not yet. Good walk with DS and the dog! Skimmed the posts - so a few responses until I get caught up... Mern - The red sauce has onion, garlic, dried basil, olive oil (just enough to cook the onion and garlic), crushed tomatoes (15oz can), 1/3 can water, about 1/2 lb ground pork (pre-browned and all fat drained), salt and pepper. The "real" recipe calls for adding home-made meatballs, tossing in Italian sausage and spare-ribs, but I cut out all meat except a little ground pork for flavor. This is the recipe that takes almost 2 hours to make because it must simmer on the stove until the sauce turns darker in color (from bright red to deep red). The flavor really changes with the long cooking time. Hope - 130!!! YAY! I bet you make that 125 goal by your birthday with no problem! Krystal - So glad the ankle is just a sprain! |
Joanna, thanks for explaining about your blood sugar highs and lows, and that water intake does affect the blood sugar. Reading your story made me so grateful that I was diagnosed with PRE-diabetes and that I can keep my blood sugar normal through diet and exercise--at least for now, anyway. My best wishes on your blood sugar and insulin dosage management.
Ama, that's great that you found the whipped butter. I totally agree with you that (as long as you don't have a health issue that forbids your using it) virtually any food moderation is fine. :) What a productive shopping trip! Yogurt is even touted by many doctors as healthful as long as it's not loaded with sugar, so I'd be surprised if you have to count the yogurt bacteria as an ingredient. Ooh, enjoy your free day Sunday. :) If you are OK with changing your "nothing out of a box, can....that has more than five ingredients..." my unsolicited vote is to go for it. I always keep in mind what my doctor said, "You don't have to be perfect, just better than you used to be." Way to go on the walk. Ooh, thanks for the sauce recipe! I'm going to copy that to my hard drive. I'll bet it makes your house smell wonderful! |
Not a good day food wise since we need to go grocery shopping tomorrow. Very low on veggies today! I didn't get the water in either--hard when it's so cold outside!
I did finish a 30 min workout (I got 95%). My legs are really feeling it! Mike and Tori I hope you both are plugging along this week!! Jenn |
Thanks Jenn. I'm plugging away. Trying to figure out how I'm going to squeeze in 1 more workout and 10 more miles.

Health/Fitness
1--Under 1800 calories--Higher than I was previously doing, but I've come to the conclusion that it's just going to take longer to get these last 20-30 pounds off. I've just got to step up my exercise. Speaking of which.....~~M: 1715 T: 1513 W: free day Th: 1956 2--EXERCISE!!!--I haven't been doing this in months. No wonder I've stalled, then started to slowly gain a little back. I've tried the treadmill....I just can't force myself to walk on it. It's so freaking boring....and yes, I've tried watching tv, listening to an audio book, it's BORING!!!! I'm gonna have to break out some of my old DVDs and warm them back up. I'm shooting for 3 nights this week.~~M: no T: nope W: nah Th: blahhhh 3--Water--my nemesis.......M: eeehhh T: lil better today W: not bad Th: YAY!!!! Home/Life 1--See The Jassi Cat no fewer than 4 times this week--Going between the two different households is starting to wear on me, but I can't take it out on her by not going by.~~M: yep T: yeah W: no Th: no, going tomorrow DONE!!!2--Organize the cabinets--My OCD is really starting to rear it's ugly head, and the cabinets are driving me batty!!!~~M: nah T: DONE! 3--Start working on the pillowcases--I've had an embroidery pattern for weeks, haven't done anything with it.~~.....probably this weekend |

Mike and I are discussing our plan to overthrow the gov't. KIDDDING!!!! With my limited vocab, we are just wishing each other well on our goals. Ama, thanks, I am hoping to break 130 soon. Mern Congrats on making great dinner choices! I entered most of my food for today yesterday and stuck really close to it so I will try to keep pre entering and see if I can carry good choices through the weekend.

Thursday Report:
Day 4 of 21 Day Mindset Makeover Tried a different cardio exercise video from another support website last evening and could do only about six minutes of it. I ran out of steam because it's more challenging than my aerobic walking DVD. I'll try to add a couple minutes per day until I can do the whole thing. Still didn't reach my fiber goal. I need to make that a priority. Calorie range 1200-1800 1404, 1212, 1223, 1230 Follow 21 Day Mindset Makeover guidelines for meal and snack content and spacing, calories, fat, etc. with my health management tweaks. Thurs. Report
Krystal: Good luck w/ your move! Ama: Hope the eye infection has cleared up for your son. (DS?) Mern: Your Mindset Makeover seems to be working well! Keep up the good work. Joanna: Wishing you the best getting a grip on your sugar issues. Mike: I'd probably be more impressed with your bike pics if my Honey didn't have a V-Rod in our garage. ;) Although, the composition is interesting... - Donna |
Jenn, I have not so good days when I'm low on veggies, too. Kudos on your workout. :)
Tori, 1956 signifies not much over 1800. Could have been a lot worse, so you deserve a lot of credit for effort. Aw, come on--how about just 25 jumping jacks as an exercise baby step? (Yeah, I'm a nag.) Donna, glad to know you got the "all clear" for your peace of mind. Do you have a calorie minimum? Enjoy the Superbowl party. Thanks for your encouragement on my 21 Day Mindset. :) Joanna, nice job Thursday. Keep up the good work! Hope you get the blood sugar regulated soon. Darlene, thanks for your support on my food choices. The pre-logging has been a huge help to me so far this week. I'll join you in carrying the pre-planning and pre-logging through the weekend. Mike, way to go! Best wishes on the one more workout and 10 more miles! Mike and Hope, yes babelfish.com is an online translator. My GD did pretty well translating, too. She just didn't know the Spanish word for along, but got that Mike is helping Hope learn Spanish. Somehow she missed the plan to overthrow the government. LOL (FCC, Secret Service, and CIA--just kidding! :) ) Hope, so sorry about your insurance company hassle. How many PT sessions did Dr. SSP prescribe? Do you think his diagnosis of probable ligament strain might be right? 7AM PT--yuck! Kudos on nailing your calorie limit. :) Have fun with your poker game and snacks. Chocolate nibs pie sounds yummy! I have some unsweetened coconut--think I might experiment this weekend with low carb chocolate coconut tarts made with tortilla shells. Nice menu! Great that you are doing so well sticking to your plan. Squash sounds good--I might include that in tomorrow's menu--thanks. The preplanning is really helping me, too, but with this new way of eating I'm doing I find I also have to pre-log to be sure I'm getting the appropriate amount of protein and fat with each meal and snack. |
great start
Hi,
Im having a good start to the year, down 11lbs. I need to keep up the momentum and hope this forum will help. You guys are great examples for me. I just dont want to plateau. :) |
Mern, how long is the workout (total)? When I first started the step workout I think I could do 10min and now I can do 30 so I know in time you can do it!! My sense of co-ordination wasn't pretty at the beginning either :D
If I count Sun I'm 15 min shy of my goal for workouts! I'm happy I get to take weekend off!! Just have to plan out meals a little better. Jenn |

- Donna I can honestly say that I'll probably never own a HD but IF I ever grow up and decide it's no longer time to live life in the fast lane, I'd probably get a custom built chopper. As for the composition. It's what they call HDR (High Dynamic Rage). It's actually 3 pictures taken at 3 different exposures. One regular, one over exposed and one under exposed, then merged together as one. It gives a better variance in color and brings out more detail. So my goal was to find a run down building for the backdrop. I figured the worse the backdrop looked, the better my Suzuki would look, right?;) The hard part for me is it should be done on a tripod and since I rode out to Mississippi on the bike to take the pictures, I had no place for my tripod. |
Hi Everyone
Time to check in and say that I have not quit- still just not doing so well physically . Still logging. Ate too much yesterday (yeah I meant to have a few mixed nuts but should not have had access to the whole jar lol). But otherwise sticking with goals. Still not exercising and will not be until things settle down physically. I am doing yoga daily. Thanks for the good wishes. I am so happy to hear the great losses here everyone. Thanks for sharing and inspiring. Mike I love the photo. Glad you enjoy the bike so much. I have a 1984 Honda. People are always trying to buy it off me. It's no racing bike but has a pretty fast take off. Out on the street you are one of those guys who whizzes past me. :o |
StitesR, hi and welcome to our group. Congratulations on being down 11 lbs. Sounds like you will be a great example to US! :) We start a new thread every Monday, so be sure to look for a new one next week. Some of us hang around here on weekends, too. We jokingly call ourselves the weekend warriors. Wow--only 15 minutes shy of your workout goal is fantastic. Way to go! I still have to exercise today and tomorrow and then get Sunday off. We're going out for breakfast tomorrow, so I pre-logged. I'm going to be a carb or so over and I think 3% over my sat fat goal, but it won't be a horrible Saturday food report, so I'm going to allow myself to enjoy the breakfast. Luckily the restaurant has a zero cholesterol egg substitute for my omelet and it's so good one would never know it's not shell eggs.
Jenn, it's an 18 minute cardio sculpt bootcamp of which I could do only 6 minutes yesterday. My sense of co-ordination wasn't pretty, either. LOL Thanks for your encouragement. :) When I first started my aerobic walking I could do only 5 minutes. Now I can do 30 minutes. But I'll bet this new workout is going to burn a lot more calories than my aerobic walking. Robin, is it your auto-immune disorder that's still keeping you down physically? I hope you start feeling better soon! I hope you really enjoyed those nuts. I love nuts but eat unsalted almonds. Kudos on your yoga! Big gentle cyberhug to ya! |

Not yet. Good walk with DS and the dog!, No... DS eyes are not totally clearing up, so I took him in today to the doc and got a different antibiotic. He has had this infection before (flares-up when he has a sinus cold), but fortunately it does not seem at all contagious... otherwise the whole family, to include cousins and grandparents would have gotten it from him. So 7 days to go with eye drops. At least he can go back to school next week - I missed so much work this week that my paycheck will be suffering greatly as it is! I totally blew it today at lunch. DS wanted to go to Red Lobster, and I ordered fried fish. The menu said the meal was about 650 cals, could have been much worse! At least I did not have the fried fish on a bun with mayo and cheese (but I thought about it)... :o Exercise has been rather non-existent this week, but I hope next week to get back into my gym routine. Sigh... I wish I loved the gym, but it continues to be a struggle for me to get motivated... Tonight's meal plan - Salad, water, and a small piece of chocolate. |
Wow Ama, this eye infection has been an ordeal.............wishing a speedy recovery. Hard to keep the routines up when everything is out of whack. It's hard at the restaurant but sounds like you are salvaging your day.
Thanks for the hug Mern. Yes my energy is really poor right now and I have lost a lot of my sight. I have even had to stop driving. This however is temporary I know so I just patiently wait it out. I am so impressed with the DEDICATION to the exercise, and pushing yourself a little harder. You too Jenn. Impressive. When I exercise alone I don't push hard enough. I will be on this weekend. Not doing much else. |
wow Mern, 6 pounds in 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!! Before long you'll be at a new low. Keep it up while it's coming down!
|
Hullo! I did okay yesterday - more lows, though, so over on calories. I don't think I hit my water goal either. But I did go to the gym! I'm going again this morning for a "master's class" which I guess they have every so often - it's supposed to be the usual workout but like x2 or something. Anyway, I figure, I'm going to try to not overdo too much tomorrow at my friend's super bowl party, but I'll likely eat more than normal, so may as well counteract it while I've got the chance! After today, I'll also have hit my goal of exercising 6 times this week.
|
Joanna that must be so frustrating dealing with the lows. Congrats on meeting exercise goal. Kudos on the total weight loss too!!
Jenn |
Thanks Jenn! Sometimes I feel like I'm treading water since I hit my lowest weight back in July, and now I'm having to re-cover that ground, but I try not to get to impatient with the process () and just keep working at it.
|
Mike: Most Harley guys think of VRods as the Bastard child of HD, but they are much faster than the average Hog. But we all have our own passions, I understand that. & on that note, HDR photos sound really interesting. Mern & all, keep up the good work. 'See' y'all next week. - Donna |
Ah, here you are :) Look forward to showing some progress along with sharing this experience with others who have the same struggles!
|
Ama, your reports this week have been spectacular! Keep up the good work! So sorry to learn that DS's eye infection is not cleared up. Ouch, also sorry about your loss of wages. I CONGRATULATE you for your restraint at Red Lobster. You are right it could have been much worse. I did the same thing but for breakfast today. I knew I'd be over in my nutrition tracker at the end of the day with a larger than usual breakfast, BUT I substituted zero cholesterol egg substitute in my restaurant omelet; substituted pineapple and cantaloupe for the hash brown potatoes; and brought home my bread for DH to eat later. Kudos on your control and restraint! If I just had a salad for dinner I'd probably binge eat later this evening. I COULD make my nutrition tracker numbers better today, but decided to just eat a normal, sensible, dinner that usually fits well into my way of eating. I think my body will be OK with it as I don't eat that kind of breakfast every day. Enjoy your chocolate. I put some chocolate in my homemade protein bars today and will enjoy that for a healthful snack later.
Robin, are you saying your eyesight impairment is just temporary? Does something swelled up press on your optic nerve or something? OMG, you are so sweet about the exercise. I go through spurts where I either love or dislike exercise and I must confess right now I'm trying to find something that works as effectively with a shorter exercise period--like the equivalent of 30 minutes aerobic walking in 18 minutes of cardio bootcamp. Best wishes for finding exercise you are able to do and enjoy. Wishing you as comfortable a weekend as possible. Mike, thanks for your encouragement. :) I think my FitDay low is 207 lbs. , but I'm soon to hit a lower "decade" I haven't live in for a while when I get down to 219.5. Joanna, you are the exercise SUPERSTAR this week! Great example for the rest of us. Have fun at the Superbowl party and go ahead and enjoy the food. If you do happen to indulge too much in the food, don't beat yourself up over it tomorrow--the Superbowl is just once a year. You're getting close again to your lowest weight. :) Keep up the good work! And, my goodness--major kudos on your 29.2 lb. loss!!!! Donna, I forgot AGAIN--when is your next blood cholesterol test at the doctor's office? I'm hoping that with all the hard work on curbing your dietary cholesterol intake that you'll reap the rewards with way lower cholesterol. Really nice job on your calories! As always, thanks for your encouragement. :) Jezzie, welcome to our group! We start a new thread each Monday, so be sure to look for the next one that starts with February 4. Looking foward to sharing the journey with you as well. |

What is up with your eyesight? Temporary... that's good news?! Are you on some meds that interfere with your vision? I hope it does not last too long for you. I hope you are enjoying your weekend Robin! |

DS is much better thanks! I may have jumped the gun on taking him to the doc yesterday to switch-up the eyedrops (first bottle did not seem to be helping much), but did not want to go through the weekend and not have him getting better. It is hard to tell anything was up with his eyes now - but we need to follow though with the meds through next week. I hope you are having a fantastic weekend! |
Ama, I'm glad to hear DS's eyes are doing better. Better to be safe than sorry, so it's probably good that you got another meds prescription just in case you did need it. This might give you a giggle--when my now adult son was a kid, I took him to the doctor when I noticed a yellow lump on his tonsil--thought it was a nasty infection. The doctor looked a little puzzled and stuck a long cotton swab in there and chuckled when he discovered the yellow lump he fished out was a PIECE OF CORN. :D I got tickled to read that you'd walk five miles for hash browns. I have to admit giving up the hash browns at the restaurant was not a big sacrifice for me--I'd prefer fruit anyway. But here in the Midwest, they always serve hash browns or home fries with restaurant egg entrees. Potatoes and eggs just don't seem to go together for me--maybe it's because my Mom never served us potatoes for breakfast. I do love that restaurant's biscuits, though, so that WAS a sacrifice.
Wishing you a fantastic weekend, too. Big cyberhug to ya! |
That's hilarious about the corn Mern. haha.
You Mern on the superstar this week on dietary restraint. My gosh you are doing so good and it is paying off in your weight loss. So happy for you. And, Joanna, on the exercise, good for you. The whole thing with the sugars and the appetite sounds complicated though. It sounds like your body is resisting. Homeostasis or something. I laid in bed mostly all day, resting. Reading for work though so it was not unproductive. I can see normally close up. I could not resist the cheezies my husband bought yesterday and ate a wack of them. It's abstinence or nothing. Back on track tomorrow. No more cheezies in the house. He can have jujubes or something (because I hate them). It was very humbling to log that binge. I have never logged one before. You were close Mern it's optic neuritis and it will likely just go away any day now. I always go no meds when possible. But if it lasts more than another few days I will go to the doc. I also have fatigue (anyone whose had it knows that it's different from being tired).I cannot wait to start exercising again. Taking it easy is getting on my nerves. Welcome Jezzie fellow Canuck. Robin, thanks so much for your encouragement. :) I have a one pound scale fluctuation (wrong way) today and hope to have it gone by tomorrow. I didn't get in my water yesterday plus had a high sodium meal that included both sausage and bacon. As far as binges go, many of us have them when we're not feeling well. Don't beat yourself up over it. We'll see you back on track tomorrow. So sorry about your optic neuritis--I hope it clears soon. What kind of meds do you use for that if you need them? I have some permanent vision loss from glaucoma. The optic nerve damage that caused my vision loss is mostly to basement vision--if I hold my hand just about an inch below my chin and look straight ahead, I can't see it. I've lost a bit of central vision but my two eyes working together see around that blind spot. My peripheral vision is still really great and I can pass a vision driving test without my glasses, so I count my blessings every time I get into my car. I hope you're feeling a little better today.
Hope, OMG, your reports all this week have been so great! Way to go! I'm 66 years old and have never had Indian food. Ooh, geez, I've got to drink up--your report reminded me. At 1:30PM I've had only about 16 oz. I think I gave you the Babelfish translator link--can't remember and am too lazy to go back and look but it's just BabelFish - Free Online Translator Oh, I do so hope the person you met will be able to help you with not getting discouraged. I'm having chicken for lunch, too. I TOLD you great minds think alike--I was going to have pulled chicken today but can't afford the sauce carbs with the rest of my planned menu so went with a chicken wrap with spinach and horseraish sauce instead. Today's menu: Breakfast: mushroom omelet and 1/2 protein shake Snack: protein square with Laughing Cow Cheese Lunch: chicken breast and spinach wrap with horseradish sauce Early dinner: salmon, low digestible carb pasta with roasted red pepper sauce, green beans Evening snacks: another protein shake, 2 oz. chicken, black soybeans, another protein square |
