Motivation & Accountability Thread, June 1-7: New Month, Fresh Start!

Here we go, folks: a new week and a new month. Let's see how much activity we can generate!

episode2011 06-01-2015 07:17 AM

My Strategy for the Week (June 1-7):
  • 7-day Rolling Average calories = 1300-1400: <---*NEW* (lower by ~100)
  • 7-day Rolling Average water/tea, minimum 2500mL (10+ 8oz glasses):
  • 7-day Rolling Average sodium = 1000-1400:
  • 7-day Rolling Average sat fat = under 18g:
  • Macro -- 7-day Rolling Average Fats = 50-60g:
  • Macro -- 7-day Rolling Average Carbs = 125-135g: <--- no change; need to keep carbs fairly high in order to meet fiber goal
  • Macro -- 7-day Rolling Average Protein = 90-100: <--- slightly lower
  • Macro -- 7-day Rolling Average Fiber = 30-40g: <---slightly lower
  • Explore! Try something new or do some nutrition-related research at least 2 times:
Sadly, although I've been mostly faithful to my plan, I'm not seeing scale results. I honestly think there's something wrong with me (but obviously I'm not concerned enough to go get it checked out :D). Seriously, though there's got to be some reason why my body simply refuses to relinquish pounds.

Is this body destined to be roly-poly? To be squishy? Have I no say in this? Is it truly out of my control? If that's the case, then, heck, why bother with all this "healthy" eating? *grumble* Oh, I know about the healthy bits. Blood pressure, stroke, cholesterol, diabetes. But darnit, I want to LOOK good. Yes, I'm that shallow hahaha.

ANYWAY... I'm going to lower the plan calories by a bit, since I seem to be doing mostly in the 1300s anyway. That means a few macros will probably need to be adjusted. I didn't research them yet, so I'll have to edit my strategy once I do. I think it'll only be a point or two here and there, so no major changes.

Oh how I wish I could have one good drop (3-4 pounds in a week, I'm not asking for much). That would be so satisfying.

Better still, I wish I'd just been assigned one of those "help me, I can't gain weight wahhhhh" bodies.

Ok, enough grousing. Time to get to work!

Edit: Ok, the new plan is 37/37/26, FCP, working toward 1400 cal per day. Will it work? Pffft probably not (nothing else has, why should this be different?). But it gives me the illusion that I'm being proactive.

rosabella2012 06-01-2015 03:27 PM

OK, something has to change: lost only .2 pound--at that rate, I'll be 100 before I get to where I want to be!

Had several errands to run today and I discovered a new grocery store in Baton Rouge that has Spanish/Mexican food! They had jicama! I love it and can't get it at any of my local stores. So tonight I had some crunchy jicama and a small salad with queso fresco and turkey. I love all the ethnic markets in my area! Vicki

rainbow24 06-01-2015 04:39 PM

I am suffering with a terrible sunburn. Somewhat the same color as beets on my shoulders. Needless to say I have been avoiding anything covering my shoulders, including a bra. Can't exercise unless the girls have support. I should point out that my girls are aging and a lot saggy.

Bottom line, I am not planning anything strenuous for a day or two. The best I can do is keep my diet in check.

libby135 06-03-2015 02:43 AM

Hi all. It's so quiet in here that I can hear an echo. Hello hello hello.
Annetta, I hope that your sunburn is feeling better. The time passes so quickly when you are working outside. My husband was doing outside work
with out a shirt on and he came in looking pretty red too but it didn't bother him until the evening. I use pure alo and it helps the skin to recover.
Vicki, What do you do with the jicama. I bought it before and ate it like an apple. It doesn't have any flavour. Don't worry about the .2 pound loss. It's better than a gain.
Episode, thanks for starting us off. It's a new week and a new month. I plan on making some progress this month.

episode2011 06-03-2015 05:31 AM

Vicki: You sound like such an inventive and creative cook! About all I can do with jicama is say it. I wouldn't recognize one if it smacked me in the face. I'm right there with you on the .2lb loss. It can be so frustrating when you know you're doing what you're supposed to do and the body refuses to relinquish the pounds. I'll be at least 100, too, before I'm where I want to be!

Libby: I hear you!!! (haha following up on the echo joke :D). Last week was quiet, too. I think we had a total of 12 replies, and I think 6 of 'em were me :o. I'm hoping there will be more activity this week.

Annette: with regard to the girls, that reminds me of a kid's song we used to sing. Replace the word "ears" with "girls"..

................... Do your ears hang low, do they wobble to and fro?
................... Can you tie 'em in a knot, can you tie 'em in a bow?

It goes on from there but you get the drift :).

Not sure how I missed reporting Monday and Tuesday, but here they are, in all their glory. I think I'm pretty much on track. We'll see.

rainbow24 06-03-2015 05:41 AM

Yep, I get the drift.

First, the reason for my burn. Not work, but camping. Good thing I was wearing a Viking underdress and apron dress. Only my neckline bore the brunt of the sun. I also had the required headcovering on.

So Monday exercise was looking after my grandchildren for the day. I was in agony by the end of the day because they both fell asleep with their faces planted in the heat of my burn.

Tuesday I went horseback riding. I only spent about 30 minutes on the horse, but there was the 30 minute grooming session before and the manure shovel/sweep after.

Today I have sore hips. I am debating on mowing the back lawn. Hoping for rain so I can have a day of rest.

Diet wise - I have to go shopping. I had Roman Bread (leftovers from camp) and chocolate flavored honey for breakfast. Not very good, but that is all I have.

episode2011 06-03-2015 06:13 AM

Annette: My girls, too, need support. I mean NEED support. As in, if I jump up and down (hah, yeah, right... unlikely), I could *almost* smack myself in the face with 'em :p. Didn't want you to think I was talking about you :).

As long as I'm here, may as well update for Wednesday's activity.

rosabella2012 06-03-2015 01:12 PM

Jicama is wonderfully crisp and crunchy, creamy white on the inside. Recipes say it can be sauteed, boiled, mashed--I prefer it straight from the fridge, chopped and either eaten raw alone or in a salad.

I found a green chili-flavored sour cream at the Mexican market--it's great on scrambled eggs with turkey bacon!

Annette: I've had sunburn a few times in my life and it's terrible. Aloe vera, cold water baths, vinegar and toothpaste are some things old folks say works--I prefer the aloe and cold compresses myself. Sure hope you feel better soon!
I've heard of many things but chocolate-flavored honey is a first! I know honey has some health benefits, but it's just too sweet for my taste.

As to the 'girls', I totally understand the need for a 'boost'!
Vicki

rainbow24 06-03-2015 04:56 PM

I've been known to wear two bras for vigorous exercise.

So I did mow the lawn today. Just about did me in because there was so much moisture in the high grass. It wasn't mowed while I was stranded in the mountains for a week and I only got half done before going to War over the weekend. My son told me that he would do it, but he didn't.

Now tomorrow's work out could be the front yard or weeding garden patches.

Or I could just do dishes.

libby135 06-04-2015 02:23 AM

The scale was kind to me this morning. I hope it is good for the rest of the month. My tasks for the day is dishes and vacuuming. That should get me sweating. At least that is the plan. I will let you know tonight how I did.

Dishes and vacuuming DONE.

episode2011 06-04-2015 02:56 PM

Woot woot, Libby! And congrats on the sweet scale lovin' :).

Really been slacking on the Explore! items. Lost my mojo. I did buy some flaxseed meal and an unflavored protein powder, but haven't made anything with them yet, so I don't know if that counts. It's hard to find little bits of protein powder -- generally you have to buy a big tub for $30-45. That's way too much to spend only to find out whether I like it. Fortunately, I was able to find some single serve pouches for $2. I can handle that.

rosabella2012 06-04-2015 03:52 PM

Epixi: If you go to a GNC store, you can buy individual pouches of protein powder in several flavors. The muffins I made last weekend were made with flaxmeal and protein powder. They had the best taste of any I have made yet--and I cook A LOT! I LOVE trying new recipes and new foods. They were great in the morning with a few sausages for breakfast and were a great snack too.

Libby: Yeah for you!

Annette: Asthma and allergies won't let me work in the yard or garden, but I enjoy canning/drying/freezing foods and cooking. Don't know that I could stand wearing TWO bras! I sometimes have issues with wearing ONE!

Time to finish cleaning my kitchen! Vicki

rainbow24 06-05-2015 03:43 AM

Vicki, the last asthma attack I had was when I was still a smoker. Yeah that's a smack myself in the head moment.
I would like to say that all my allergies are in the kitchen, but they are also in the bathroom. Foods (tree nuts, bananas, fermented foods), beauty products (anything containing baby oil or tree nuts), outdoors in the fall, anywhere that nut trees grow.

I rested yesterday, or rather I caught up on dishes. Today I am resting again. I am cleaning out the oven because I exploded a potato, and apparently I am figuring out how to clean out the water softener.

Both will burn some calories, but not as much as if I were say mowing the lawn.
20 minutes of lawn left to mow. Hoping my son will wake up and do that.

libby135 06-05-2015 04:51 AM

I had a slight gain on the scale this morning. BLAA.
My neighbour wants to go back to Aqua Fit. Yeah

episode2011 06-05-2015 05:39 PM

Yesterday, I gave myself permission to cheat today. I prepared for it, I psyched myself up for it. You see, yesterday I discovered that today, June 5, is National Donut Day here in the US. National Donut Day!!! Woohoo!!! FREE DONUTS!!! Yes, please!

So I drove over to Dunkin Donuts and went up to the drive through. You could only get the free donut if you ordered a beverage, so I allowed myself to order a big ol' coffee. I rarely drink coffee anymore because I don't want to account for the cream. But today, for National Donut Day? I'm throwing caution to the wind. Donut AND coffee. Yes, please!

Except one thing. It was the end of the day and they'd run out of the one donut variety I wanted. Actually, they'd run out of just about ALL the donuts. I think she said they had about 5 donuts left, PERIOD.

So, I ended up staying on plan, even though I hadn't really intended to. It simply wasn't worth it to me to break plan for a donut that wasn't my absolute favorite.

Oh well, there'll be other opportunities to break plan, of that I can be sure :).

Hope you all had a pleasant day, donuts or no.

_______________________________________

I hope this post doesn't trigger anyone to break plan. I tried to wait until it was late enough so folks wouldn't go rushing out for donuts.

This logging off nonsense is really out of control. It's inexcusable.

rosabella2012 06-06-2015 08:59 AM

I get kicked back to Log-In quite frequently--especially when I'm putting in my foods for the day

Epixi: Sorry you couldn't find what you needed at your local GNC--my is always very well stocked. That's quite humorous about your scheduled 'cheat day' not being a 'cheat' at all!

Today's a quiet day on my homefront. Think it's nap time! Vicki

episode2011 06-06-2015 05:12 PM

Mmmm Vicki, gotta love those nap days :). Hope yours was scrumptious! With regard to logoffs, check my sig for a workaround. It doesn't solve the problem but at least it take a little of the sting out of it.

Quiet day on Fitday as well as on my side of the monitor. Can't complain about that!

edited because I realized my sodium numbers were below optimal for the past few days. They should have been red, not blue. All properly updated now.

New Kid 100+ over weight...

And my title is actually the first time I've admitted that in public!
I doubt I'll be judged here as it's the reason for the season right?

I don't know what the heck is going on...well I do, that's a lie.

I hurt and ache....because I'm fat.
I have no motivation...because I'm fat and mentally lazy.

There's will in there somewhere...I haven't found it yet.

So I'll just post here everyday until I do, I hope that's okay with everyone?

So today..my intention was to get going....I must admit I have done some things...but, nah, not a lot.

I'm going to try to convey my personal thoughts...
'God I can't be arsed...' and 'Eff it I'll start tomorrow'
Then there's the epiphany 'If I eat just toast, I won't be able to stop eating...'
And for me that's what it boils down too...self control. The lack of it then leads to a lack of self respect and embarrassment but do I do anything about it? Nah....why? Because I'm lazy...mentally. I'm not a physically lazy person, although recently the pain caused by too much time on my feet has resulted in some reluctance to move for long periods of time.

Anyway I know none of this probably makes any sense...it wasn't a well thought out or organised statement and to the good folks on this forum, I apologise.. Alas they are my thoughts...set out in type as they flowed through my head....

Thoughts?

episode2011 06-07-2015 01:58 AM

Knittingfool: It made perfect sense!

I am so so so glad you decided to join us! We're all right there with you, all in the same boat. We're here to support you in whatever way we can. You said your intention was to get going today -- and you have! So congrats to you!

This forum has seen an ebb and flow of activity. We seem to be in a bit of a slump right now, not a lot of activity. Please don't let that discourage you. It'll pick back up soon, I have a feeling. In the meantime, dig in and post away. There are no rules other than to be kind, respectful and supportive. There are no rules as to what you have to post or in what format. Want to post a plan or goals and updates? Do it! Want to post a narrative of your thoughts and feelings? That's cool, too. Use this thread in whatever way helps you.

Oh, by the way, a new Motivation and Support (M&A) thread starts every Monday, so be on the lookout for it tomorrow morning. It's generally started by whoever gets here first, so if you're first, go for it! :D.

Have you had a chance yet to explore some of the methods you may want to try? Do you have questions about how Fitday works? Have you ever kept a food journal before?

Oh, and one final thought: if you're like the rest of us, you WILL get booted off Fitday periodically when you change pages or when you hit Preview or Submit for posting. I ALWAYS copy my posts before hitting Preview/Submit. That way, when I get logged out, I can log back in, "Copy" my post back into the reply box and hit "Preview/Submit". Just a heads up for you :).

Anyway, welcome aboard! Glad you're here!

Kathy13118 06-07-2015 03:44 AM

'I ALWAYS copy my posts before hitting Preview/Submit. That way, when I get logged out, I can log back in, "Copy" my post back into the reply box and hit "Preview/Submit".'

I do this, too. I haven't had the problem lately, though. I wonder if it is because I frequently run CCleaner on my laptop (deleting all kinds of system files, including Internet caches on my different browsers, histories, cookies, etc.).

I use my laptop. For whatever reason, when I have been using it a lot, going in and out of browsers, looking at lots of files, etc., it will just stop taking my keystrokes or it will start giving me weird responses to keystrokes. I have to restart my Toshiba (I run Windows 8.1 on it) and I routinely run CCleaner first thing.

I'm not asking for troubleshooting help - I think in the keystroke situation, somehow, I've just 'run out of space' somewhere, don't know where. But restarting resets it.

If you run a cleanup routine often and it does not help the log-off problem, I'd like to know. I don't know if it is coincidental that I have not had that logoff problem in quite a while.

Knittingfool65,
Hi. I wish I could knit. That came out wrong. I know how to knit, but I can't because of the carpal tunnel, because of the excess weight, because of... well what you said.

I haven't stood on the scale in a couple of months. Battery died and I am just too lazy to put in a new one.

I too need to get on track but keep postponing it till "after the weekend" which turns into "after Monday" which turns into "after I mow the lawn."
Great idea but it takes 3 days to mow the lawn.

Okay, I know it sounds like I am way more active than you and I am. This is nearly 1 year post heart attack, at which point I weighed in at 330 lbs and wore a 4X. I am now fitting into 1X and although I may still be over 300 lbs, there is more muscle than there was before.

Kathy13118 06-07-2015 07:43 AM

You made all that progress in a year? Good for you - congratulations!

rainbow24 06-07-2015 09:12 AM

If you were talking about me, Kathy, thank you. I am hard on my own progress and need to be reminded that it is a lot more than I think.

Another week done. For those of us who weigh on Monday, here's hoping for some scale love tomorrow!

Thanks everyone....

Well thanks very much for the welcome and support.
I will do my best to keep in touch here...

I like that plans are laid out...
I'm a bit of a planner...but at the moment it's day by day.
Today...I've made my list of housework....and included the exercises I would like to do today...
I don't have a regime because if I don't meet it, this logs in my head as a failure and then I risk excuses for eating 'until tomorrow when I can get back on track' (this is bs I know....it's just what I do...)
Anyway I would like to have reduced my current weight by 10 pounds before the end of July.
I believe this to be a reasonable and healthy minded goal.
Is it?

I hope you're all doing well...and keeping healthy

Perhaps if you knit for a few minutes every hour or so?
Don't use heavy wool....perhaps something in a fingering weight for socks or fingerless mittens? It would be a shame not to have something to knit up...or maybe crochet? I don't crochet much but the hand and wrist action is different (I assume) Anyway here's a picture of my latest knitting...I'm in a Sock KAL (knit along) for June and July on Ravelry.com

Hello Epi
I haven't had trouble here, yet, but in logging things I certainly have.
There must be something in one of the code loops that skips a beat.
It happens...I know. (I work in IT...coding is a right pain in the bum!)
Anyway...I do like to see how you plan your entire month....that's good.
I hope, one day soon, I can be that ambitious.

Have a great day and thanks for the smiley welcome
