Motivational Thread, October 20 - 26 -- Kick it to the curb!

Not sure where that came from. Maybe a little nostalgia from an era gone by when we stayed out till dark and played red rover. Too bad we couldn't get a little virtual game going. A little extra exercise and diet help instead of running around houses.

Last night my daughter scared me and told me that I had to start working on the farm Tuesday. Sure, that would amp up my calorie burn, but I wouldn't get the work done in my yard. Oh wait, the yard work burns more calories.

Pouring down rain here though, so there won't be a fire today. But, on the bright side, my husband told me that work starts next week.

Personally, I have decided to make a list of things to do each day. Morphing that list each day.

Monday List:
  1. Postpone burning till Wednesday
  2. Walk (wearing a rain poncho)
  3. Dishes
  4. Cook pot of chicken bones for broth
  5. Piano practice
  6. Work at moving piano - 5 steps
  7. Laundry
  8. Dishes
  9. Fish for dinner
That should about do it.

I snuck out the back door because my cat was guarding the front door. When he realized that I had escaped him he ran after me. I lured him back in the house and took off down the driveway, realizing as I walked that there is calorie burning work I can do outside, even in a light drizzle, but

I can only handle one big job a day.

I feel invigorated after my morning walk, but I still fear that I might not have the energy that I once had. Rather, my heart might not have the stamina.

Today's big calorie burner will be cleaning the leaves off the driveway.

I love this idea. A daily list instead od a weekly one. OK I am in - for today at least lol.

canary52 10-20-2014 04:05 AM

Monday List:
1) get eating back on track -yes
2) stretch -yes
3) get work back on track - tried
4) straighten out laundry/clothing situation - started

Then I got sick.

rainbow24 10-20-2014 05:05 AM

Most of the things on my list will be every day things, the only changes will be when job is "well done."

Yuck! The rain is depressing. I don't think I'm burning Wednesday either.

libby135 10-20-2014 05:29 AM

I had my first physio appointment today and it went well. She said I may be a bit sore tomorrow but I am going back on Friday and I have some exercises to do in the mean time.

Goals for the week:
Physio exercises
clean kitchen
fold and put laundry away
mending
calories under 1000

iansteele 10-20-2014 06:16 PM

Also suffering from depressing rain here :(

Goals:
3500 calorie deficit for the week
Workout AT LEAST twice

rainbow24 10-21-2014 02:55 AM

Ian, it isn't even light yet here and I can hear the rain. Must go out in it anyway. I have to take the recycling to the curb.

Vicki, I'm answering you from the daily weigh in thread. My 55th birthday is next month. My twins, baby 4 and 5, were born in December of 1985. The whole hormone fluctuation has been nothing but a nuisance since then. Granted they are getting fewer and farther between.

Libby, hoping things go well.

Where did everyone go this week?

I went to visit a friend yesterday and she asked where the rest of me went. I don't think the change is that dramatic, but there is change.

Now I will move my Monday incompletes to Tuesday or Wednesday and write my list for today.

Completed:
Going through my list, I realized that I accomplished absolutely nothing yesterday.

Tuesday:
  1. Dishes never go away
  2. Finish chicken broth
  3. Printing and cutting activities for children's club tonight (I am the main speaker)
  4. Piano practice
  5. Laundry - also a never ending story
  6. Trout for dinner

I am going to copy-paste from Daily weigh-in thread here since I am not feeling well and don't want to push my luck on the computer, but love to everyone!

Sorry I've been away everyone. I am sick :( and unfortunately been having vertigo (it happens sometimes when I have sinus pressure), so sitting at the computer is no fun and I have been napping a lot. Today the bouts are coming and going so I'm trying to sneak between bouts.

I didn't weigh this weekend due to guests, but I've weighed since Monday. I haven't been eating much since then (I came down with it Sunday afternoon) and it shows. I haven't gotten much workouts done - it's been hard enough getting my grading done as it was due Tuesday. Feeling really worn down and frustrated.

Guests this weekend were very fun. At least the sick waited until the day they were leaving. I adjusted goals a little bit for realism.

I hit my mini-goal 175 this morning. At least that's something to smile about. Hopefully it stays off! :)

canary52 10-22-2014 02:05 AM

Terri, so sorry to hear you have been sick. That stinks. I hope you feel better ASAP.

Libby, good luck with the physio!!!

It's been raining here too. I have also been sick. With fibro. Had to have a bed rest day, which really helped thankfully.

I have to admit. I am "cheating on" Fitday; I am on another site. I am doing their Thanksgiving challenge, which is simply to lose five pounds by November 26. It seems a very doable goal and being accountable seems to help me. Of course, this is American, not Canadian, Thanksgiving. Sorry! But it does give a date.

libby135 10-22-2014 02:23 AM

I have been doing much better since physio.
Terri, get well soon and congrats on 175.
I had a binge last night and am up to 185.1 so need to get my act together today. It is a bright but cool day and I am going for a walk. Have a good day.

rainbow24 10-22-2014 03:06 AM

Hope, The American Thanksgiving is always special for me. This year, no, but some years they hold it on my birthday. I have been toying with other sites as well, but not committed.

Terri, I hope you feel better soon. It's no fun being sick.

Libby, I'm glad physio helped.

Toying with other websites has me thinking all the time. About what I want to accomplish. I have long term goals, but they are not so cut and dried.

It is my goal to eat a heart healthy diet every day rather than to lose 100 lbs.
It is my goal to exercise and live life to my fullest, rather than to tighten my abs.
Even though the experience with doctors, nurses, ambulance attendants, and death was exciting, I never want to do it again.

Because of this, I have will-power like I never had before. I also will accomplish the 100 lbs and the tight abs, but they will be because of my health goals.

Today's goals:
Make soup and do dishes.
I am going to go walk in a few minutes and if I feel like doing yard work later, I might do that too.

beccafries 10-22-2014 09:54 AM

Hi everybody!

We need rain in my area...my lawn is thirsty....

I've been doing really good with my weekly goals
getting my water in
working out few times a week..
I'm proud of myself :)

rainbow24 10-23-2014 02:52 AM

I accomplished everything I set out to do yesterday, partly because I just accepted that the weather is what it is.

I looked back at my past attempts at weight loss and discovered that I have pretty much hovered between 310 and 330 for a good number of years. This time is different because:
  • Its not a weight loss program, but a health program.
  • Weight loss is the result, not the goal.
  • This is life or death now. Mine!

Now for my upcoming problems.

I start work next week and traditionally I have driven to the farm, come home for lunch, and driven back for the afternoon. My plan is to walk. I was trying to figure out how to manage bringing a lunch and what I would bring.

My daughter took it upon herself to suggest that her and I make soup every night to bring to work. Homemade soup for me isn't a problem other than choosing the right spill-proof container. My daughter and husband don't have the same serving size ideas though. I have been trying to ingrain serving sizes to them for years and it doesn't work.

Back to her idea. She wanted to help me make soup every evening to bring to the farm for lunch. That also doesn't work. I spent Monday cooking chicken parts to get a pot full of broth. Wednesday I made a chickpea soup that serves 8 of my size servings. It took 4 hours from start to finish.
Then last night before bed, I chopped all the vegetables for a squash soup. I will cook that today.

Better get ready for my walk. I have piano today. The soup to cook. I also have to do my husband's laundry. The cat has been sleeping on his clothes and we have a chiropractor appointment tonight. Dr. is allergic to cat fur.

Everyone, have a great day.

rosabella2012 10-23-2014 12:38 PM

Annette, I like what you said about 'weight loss being the result, not the goal'. I need to always remember that better health is the goal.

Weather is so nice--sunshine, mild temps, nice breeze, and it's gonna be that way all this weekend too! Wonderful! Vicki

rainbow24 10-24-2014 03:08 AM

The weather looks good enough to get outside and get some yard work done. I'll postpone walking for now. I will also hold off on that last pot of soup till later today.

rainbow24 10-25-2014 04:29 AM

I have:
8 servings of chickpea soup
9 servings of squash soup
12 servings of mixed bean soup
14 servings of chicken for long rice

All in the freezer and ready for taking to work next week. I discovered that I had to make enough for 4 people.

Yesterday I finished burning another pile in the back yard. I pushed myself and worked for nearly 4 hours. According to Fitday, that burned over 1400 calories.
I barely got in a shower and my daughter showed up. She had been rear ended earlier in the day, therefore rendering her baby car seats "damaged." She came to pick up the one I have for the toddler.
Long story short, she was running an errand and would have to drive back my way. I got to babysit the 5 month old for a couple of hours. A fifteen year old came with the deal, but I was able to handle bad singing of heavy metal songs for a short time.

Today it is raining. I am going to do dishes until they are done.
Fish for dinner.

rainbow24 10-26-2014 02:41 AM

Just realized there was a hurricane heading our way. Downgraded to a tropical storm now, but still heading this way.
I will walk anyway.

rosabella2012 10-26-2014 01:52 PM

Had my grandsons for a few hours this afternoon and they wanted to go eat. We went to a local fast food place. The boys ordered their usual but I maintained with only a diet soda. Even when the oldest offered me the fries he didn't want to finish, I was able to 'just say No!' Glad I was able to stay strong! Vicki

rainbow24 10-26-2014 03:26 PM

Way to go, Vicki!
