Calorie Restriction/Calories Allowed?

The calcuator says I should limit my calories to around 1200 per day to reach the goal weight I entered. My experience, when strictly counting carbs & calories + excercising, is that I lose more efficiently at about 1400-1500 per day. It's been a while since I was strictly "dieting", but last time I tried 1200 calories (for several weeks), I lost very little weight. Expirementing, I upped calories to around 1400/day, and consistently lost -- about 2 lbs. per week. I'm limiting carbs to <50/day, and excercising at least 5 days a week. Does anyone understand this? Thanks!

I was doing 1200-1400 cal/day, and was losing slowly. I upped my calories to an average of 1600 and started losing 1.5-2lbs/wk.
