Hi Mern - Yes, it is possible for me to limit wine to the weekends only. In fact, doing just that and not counting calories is how I've lost the weight so far. But even having a little wine on the weekends would make me retain water and then I end up spending the week trying to make up for the weekend. For whatever reason, the month of February, I was having wine on some week nights again and I wasn't being as diligent with my nutrition....this is how I've gained weight over time. I'm just trying to tighten things up this week to get the scale moving again ;)

Enjoy your day today with your dear grandbaby!!!

Mern 03-05-2014 10:13 PM

Debbie, I highly commend you for working on your wine weight gain issue. I don't drink much alcohol (maybe 3 or 4 light beers a year with a pizza cheat--I gotta have beer with it. LOL) and had no idea that the wine causes water retention. Is that your body's reaction to alcohol having a tendency to dehydrate or something? I'm up early to get my menu planned and get in some exercise before my great-grandbaby comes. I don't expect you to read the following if you're pressed for time, as I often am myself--you can consider it "optional chit-chat." :) Gosh, great-granddaughter is the light of my life--such a fun baby and at only 6 months old, has a wonderful sense of humor. She has her own way of doing things, different from the many babies I've taken care of over the years. One example: when she doesn't want any more baby food, instead of spitting it out or holding her lips tight so the feeder can't get in another spoonful, she accepts the last spoonful as if she's going to eat it, but then holds her tongue out for like a minute to a minute and a half until most of that spoonful of food drips off her tongue onto the high chair tray. Not well-mannered, but I'd rather she do that than my getting a mouthful of strained carrots spit at me. I suppose I could wipe it off her tongue for her, but I'm hoping she'll get tired of having hold it out like that and will just swallow the last spoonful and turn her head or hold her lips tight to indicate she doesn't want any more. And she prefers to sit on the arm of my recliner chair (her perch) to drink her bottle or to read a book with me. If I sit elsewhere, she makes her special grunting noise, indicating she's not where she wants to be, until I move to that chair. That's now become a game for her and she smiles when she's grunting. LOL But other people can feed her or read to her anywhere at her house or at mine.

Everyone, I so much appreciate all the support I get here!

Jedi, I logged my food yesterday and was thrilled to be able to eat REAL BREAD--a full serving of Flatout bread--and have a day of totally delicious, satisfying food, within my healthful eating plan guidelines, without going hungry. Thanks SO MUCH for the recommendation! I'm trying the Joseph's Heart Friendly Pita Bread from Walmart today.

Today's planned menu, pre-logged with portion sizes:

Zero cholesterol egg substitute, fresh spinach, and turkey bacon on half a low carb pita bread

Protein shake

Tuna salad with ranch dressing instead of mayo, and a side of sliced cucumber and green pepper

Sauteed cabbage, Eden brand black soybeans (1 net carb per half cup) cooked with a little dehydrated onion, fully cooked smoked porked shoulder, and a little water until the beans are more softened--the beans come slightly al dente/firm. I'll have just two oz. of the pork shoulder.

Protein shake with flaxmeal, and celery stuffed with soy nut butter. (The soy nut butter is edible, but I wouldn't buy it again. I first discovered it Sunday at the healthfood store. It isn't very creamy--too thick--and has the flavor of stale peanut butter in which the oil is going rancid.)

Kumochi 03-06-2014 12:38 AM

Debbie - If I'm socializing I find the best way to avoid the wine - or other alcohol - is to have a glass of anything else. As long as I am sipping - even water - I don't miss the wine. I like my wine and lately on social occasions have been having one glass then water. If I have a plan before the occasion arises I find I will usually stick to it. Decide before hand how much if any you are going to have and stick to it. Sometimes none is easier than 1.

I also live out of town so have to be my own DD. This helps me make up my mind. Taxis are expensive here.

Mern = I am looking forward to the extra daylight in the evening. I'm making plans to get out cross country skiing in the next few weeks. I love the longer days. I expect I will adjust to the early mornings or I may be going in to work a bit later.

Last day before weight in everyone. make it a good one.

lildebbieg 03-06-2014 01:26 AM

Mern - I love to hear about your great-granddaughter! She sounds absolutely precious! What a character! So funny that she just lets the food drip off her tongue :p Oh and yes, alcohol has a dehydrating effect...that's what causes the hangover.

Mary - I'm looking forward to the extra daylight too! I plan to be in bed early this weekend in anticipation of how tired I'll be for the first week after the clocks go ahead. When I have wine on the weekends, it's usually at home. I have young children so I rarely go out for social stuff. I guess wine has become a treat in a sense. Probably not the best thing to treat myself with! ....but I do love a glass of wine with my dinner and maybe one while relaxing in the evening after the kids are in bed. Just have to keep it to the weekends ;)

Everyone - I second Mern's appreciation of everyone here! I sincerely feel that checking in here helps me tremendously to stay on track. Reading all of your weekly goals has even inspired me to set short term goals as well! So thank you :)

Have a great day all!

beccafries 03-06-2014 04:47 AM

Hi ladies, you all seem to be doing well fitness wise/personal wise... I can attest to the little ones...my niece/neph are a handful :p

I've been so busy last few weeks with work...hard to check in during the week with you all.

I'm doing well this week...so we'll see just how well on tomorrow morning!

I'm my off days I try to work out in the mornings as well....hopefully I get to work out this evening :D

wildbeanerz 03-06-2014 08:25 AM

Simple goals for first week back
1. post on this thread at least once daily M: Y, T: Y, W: Y, T: Y,
2. workout daily and record in diary how I feel from it M: Y, T: Y, W: Y, T: Y,
3. do not eat anything that I didn't bring to work with me or plan unless it's fruit M: Y, T: Y, W: Y, T: Y,
4. at least three work cups of ice water daily M: Y, T: Y (2 but lots extra at home, W: Y,

Weighed in for this week's weight challenge at work down .4 lbs from last Friday. I had to weigh in a day early because I have an appt tomorrow morning and I will eat before I get here LOL. That's pretty good considering today surprise started TOTM! I had gained 7 lbs since we started this weight challenge and between the last two weeks have lost 1 of them. Better down than up is all I can say. My tone is coming back already though just from exercising daily. I really need to stop that thought that I can get away without exercising. I get flabby, FAST!

Looks like mostly everyone is having a good week. Let's keep going!! The weekend is coming and it's hubby's off work weekend so I will be lazier and tend to eat more since he is home with me all day & night but I will make myself workout. I'm saying it now. So hopefully I can stick to it.

I did get up before work today even though he didn't need to and worked out. I told him last night how hard that is for me and he offered to get up with me in the morning. Awwww! He did help me make sure that I got out of bed this morning in time though, after we spent some time together in bed. He woke me before my alarm knowing that I hate alarm clocks. All week when he works, his alarm goes off then he wakes me up. Today he woke up on his own then woke me 20 mins before my alarm went off so we could spend some time together. :) I am so blessed!

lildebbieg 03-06-2014 11:29 AM

Well, this is it...tomorrow is weigh day I can sincerely said I did all I could this week (not that the week is over just yet!) and gave it my all!

1. Track calories - M - yes, Tu - yes, W - yes, Th - yes
2. Exercise 7x (scheduled morning interval workout) - M - yes, T - yes, W - yes, Th - yes
3. Do doubles (second workout) 4x - 1X T - yes, 2X W - yes, 3X Th - yes
4. Drink 3 litres of water daily - M - yes, T - yes, W - yes, Th - yes
5. No alcohol - M - yes, T - yes, W - yes, Th - yes

April - your husband sounds like a real sweetheart :) I'm so lucky to also be blessed with a wonderful husband. It makes all the difference to have someone in your corner cheering you on and doing what they can to make things easier.

Later buddies

aimeet_1 03-06-2014 02:52 PM

Argh....my computer decided to do an auto update and restart while I was typing a response for everyone...Not in the mood to redo the post.

Doing pretty good on my goals this week. Water intake not the best today, but still hoping for some good news for the weigh in tomorrow. I did my one-hour weight lifting class this a.m. and 15 min of elliptical before the class. My husband is always off on Thursdays which makes it difficult for me to stay on track for weigh ins on Friday...but we shall see. I was mostly good today.

My grandkids are not happy about that because they have exceeded their allowed snow days and have to make up the last two in June.

Aimee, sorry you felt so bad about yesterday's lunch of lasagna and bread that you skipped dinner. (I'd have loved to have a sip of your whiskey. LOL) Know that it happens to virtually all of us from time to time. I quote two wise people: our thread member Cassie who says "It's all about averages" and my doctor who says "You don't have to be perfect, just better than you USED to be." Maybe if that happens again, instead of skipping dinner, you could have a healthful salad, light on dressing or some other non-starchy veggies and low carb fruit such as cantaloupe or berries. Be proud of yourself for all you've accomplished to date. Big hug to ya!

My goals this week are still simple, but expanded:
Eat on plan, having small meal days as often as possible
Track food daily
Exercise daily--minimum of 30 minutes
Minimum 48 oz water daily

Today's small meal planned menu:

Flaxmeal pancake with sugar free, high fiber apricot preserves

Low carb veggie soup and fresh strawberries

Pizza using low carb tortilla as the crust--will try an adaption of Jedi's using Laughing Cow Mozzarella, Sun Dried Tomato and Basil cream cheese, additional tomatoes, and mushroom, peppers, and onions sauteed in butter substitute (low sat fat, no trans fat.) Jedi, thanks for that idea. My mouth is watering as I type this. LOL

Tuna salad with ranch dressing instead of mayo and celery stuffed with soy nut butter

Super lean crockpot pork, cooked spinach

Snacks: two protein shakes and choose from almonds, cold skinless chicken and a square of unsweetened baking chocolate. (I'm a true chocoholic-love chocolate, but don't always need it to be sweet.)

Hi dear!

I am getting inspired and try this from today! I think it will be beneficial for my weight loss. I was searching the diet which I can use to take it. Thank you.

lildebbieg 03-06-2014 11:50 PM

Good morning all! Just posted in the Friday weigh in...I'm down 4.4 lbs. this week which is my lowest yet. Guess who will be setting weekly goals from now on! ;)

I took measurements again this morning and it's incredible how many inches I've lost! 1"off my biceps and neck (yes my neck!!), 3" off my thighs, 4" off my hips, 4.5" off my chest, 6"off my waist and 6.5" off around my belly button!!!! Wow!! I think this motivates me even more than the scale! I'll be taking pictures again in two weeks...it's also so motivating to see the progression in the pictures!

Have a great day all!

JuliaGulia2 03-07-2014 12:01 AM

Hi there everyone

G'day from Australia everyone. I'm Julia and am new to the Fitday program but excited to be getting started. Wow freezing rain? It's summer here and so hot ... I'm here to lose some weight and maintain it. I can't exercise much as I have MS and struggle with fatigue. I've been struggling lately to stay positive and came to the conclusion that I can get depressed and give up, or I could be positive and help others too... I look forward to becoming a part of this circle and hope to learn and lose weight and keep it off :)

JediMindTricks 03-07-2014 12:47 AM

Debbie, that's GREAT! Good for you! It sure does help to set goals, doesn't it?

April, we are both so lucky to be a part of The Wonderful Husbands Club! :) Having someone be supportive makes things a whole lot easier.

Aimee, very excellent job on the exercise! That's a lot...Kudos to you for putting in so much effort.

I'm sorry I'm a little behind with everyone today. The last 2 days or so have not been good for me. I've done a flop around and have been eating more calories than I want to (although still a little bit of a deficit). And drinking soda. Regular full sugar soda. This week it's been like nectar from the gods! But I have to stop before it becomes a habit I have to break again. I missed the gym Wednesday due to the cramps, and I'm going to miss tonight because it's my son's birthday and we're having a little family thing. He's also having a friend over. the birthday is another thing...a container of frosting in my hands and then a black forest cake in front of me. I don't know what I'm going to do. I know I'll have some cake. And I know I'll east some of the frosting...probably too much. I'll try to keep the size of my piece of cake in check. I'll try to limit the frosting to 2 Tbsp. I'll try to "be good" the rest of the day. But this is not a good week to be up against extra challenges. I'm already having a tough time with the regular ones, let alone have more while it's "that time". My weight is exactly the same as last week. Although I weighed this morning and I'm usually less in the afternoon (I know, weird, huh?) so maybe I'll be under after all. On the good side...My protein has been up above minimum lately. My fiber is up, but not because of fruits/veggies. :( I'm still struggling a lot with that. Ok, off to take the kids to school. Everyone seems to be doing so well meeting goals! Way to go!

Hello Julia!

Mern 03-07-2014 02:27 AM

Weightloser1234, welcome! :) I'm so glad you found us. Probably no two of us in this group of regular posters do everything the same way. But as long as our food and exercise are sensible, that's all that matters. You found a really nice website at healthysm.com. I love the part where they say to eat more veggies and protein. That and reducing saturated fat to no more than 12% of my total daily calories is what's helping me lose weight. Best wishes and I hope to see you checking in daily, if possible. That's what helps keep many of us motivated. You never know when the smallest bit of info or comment from another might really help.

Aimee, sorry you lost your post! I HATE that when I lose a post--especially the long ones. And I often do not have the time to type it all again. Kudos on doing well on your goals this week and best wishes on tomorrow's weigh in. Great job on your exercise!

Mary, I hope you get in lots of enjoyment cross country skiing in the evenings.

Debbie, I'm glad I'm not boring you with my grandbaby stories. :) I did not know that it is the dehydration that causes hangovers. Wow, you've had an all green report this week, too. Well done! I've worked hard this week and am hoping the scale will finally reward me when I weigh at 9AM. I weigh at that time because my doc appointments are usually at 9:30 and I like to see how close my scale is to hers.

Becca, I hope you build up many fond memories with the little ones--yes, indeed, they certainly CAN be a handful. I'm glad to learn you're doing well this week. Best wishes on your healthful lifestyle over the weekend. :) Did you get to work out last night?

April, kudos on your all green report AGAIN! Way to go! You are right, as long as your scale is going in the right direction, even if it's moving slowly, that's progress. How nice that you're getting your tone back--nice payoff from all the work of exercise! Best wishes this weekend on food and exercise with hubby off work. I hate alarm clocks, too. Sounds like such a loving husband you have! Kudos on getting up early to exercise!

While we're talking about husbands who help us, I'd like to toss in that mine, in addition to other things, makes it easier for me in cooking. I cook low carb and he eats almost everything I cook because he usually can't tell the difference between low carb and full carb dishes. On occasion when he wants something starchy with dinner, he will microwave bake a potato or open a can of pinto beans or corn. Or I will fry him some potatoes or make him some potato salad.

wildbeanerz 03-07-2014 03:56 AM

Simple goals for first week back
1. post on this thread at least once daily M: Y, T: Y, W: Y, T: Y, F: Y,
2. workout daily and record in diary how I feel from it M: Y, T: Y, W: Y, T: Y, F: Y,
3. do not eat anything that I didn't bring to work with me or plan unless it's fruit M: Y, T: Y, W: Y, T: Y,
4. at least three work cups of ice water daily M: Y, T: Y (2 but lots extra at home, W: Y, T: Y,

Today is going to be hard in the eating nothing that I didn't bring to work or plan for because I planned to order a salad from our store and they aren't serving lunches today! I'll hit the fruit basket up and be nice & hungry for dinner. I just hope I can stay away from the mini bags of chips and candies that are around everywhere in this food company I work for! Worked out this morning. Did pilates because my butt & ribs are sore from yesterday's workout. Then went and had my eyes rechecked. I had to stop wearing contacts a week ago because my eyes were red all the time. Drops 4 times a day of steroids fixed that up mostly. Now to try a new brand of lenses and get another check Tuesday. Ugh!

Debbie I agree...my hubby is awesome! After 21 yrs together, I think I will keep him! LOL .... I totally agree on measurements and pictures. Even if you weight loss stops, don't let it stop you. Keep checking those measurements and taking progress pics. You will be amazed that while the scale stays the same or even goes up slightly you may find more definition in your legs, arms or core that same week.

Welcome to the group Julia!

Jedi Sorry I haven't caught what your first name is. ... What do you think is causing you to allow full sugar soda back into your day? I had started to allow diet back in and then another one and another until I realized it was making me hungrier! I cut it back out late last week and haven't had one since. I miss the caffeine a little but not terribly as it was only 1-2 a day in the evening. .. I hear ya on the bday cake. You can't not have some. It's your child's bday. So do better on something else that day and have some cake. It's only once and then it's over. You can do it and not let it ruin all of your other progress. :)

Mern ... thanks for the kudos. Last night we were at home and there was 'nothing' in the house for snack. So I went and looked and ended up making peanut butter cookies. Um yeah, I ate like 8 of them! Oh well, today's a new day and I won't let it set me back. I can't keep doing that to myself. .... I love how you & your hubby make your way around your new style of cooking.

libby116 03-07-2014 03:57 AM

Last night I finished reading jump start and I am going to try it today. I walked for 45 minutes this morning and had a breakfast of 300 calories. The daily limit is supposed to be 800 but I don't know if I can do it. I am drinking
8 glasses of water (two before every meal). I will get another exercise session done this afternoon. Tonight I will let you know how my day went. This is day one of 21.

Kumochi 03-07-2014 04:07 AM

I could not do 800 calories. I find going below 1500 difficult. One of the reasons I gave up calorie counting for years was that way back when I was young a low calorie diet was 1000 - 1200 calories and I could not function on that. I don't do hunger. I tried fad diets for many years before realizing I can lose on 1500 and eat well.

jjrudd 03-07-2014 05:11 AM

Having another productive day. Did 10 min on the advanced step program on the Wii. That was all I could manage. I have been up and down the stairs many, many times. Cleaned out half of the bookcase in the living room and have 2 boxes to go for Diabetes or CP pick-up when they phone again. :D

Had frozen entree (asian noodle) for lunch but had a salad with it.

Jenn

beccafries 03-07-2014 06:26 AM

Mern- yes I did work out last night:)
Debbie- 4.4 lbs awesome job my friend!!!!!

Good Job to everyone..sometimes we slip up...but remember..this is a day by day..week by week deal here....if one day u mess up...or one week you mess up...remember you can START OVER...you have not failed yourself :)

Mern 03-07-2014 07:50 AM

I hope I didn't miss anyone. I had time to post because my granddaughter got off work early and picked up baby at 1:30, but my computer keeps freezing up for like a couple minutes at a time. I've been working on this post for over an hour! Sheesh! I have an hour before we leave for a fish fry at our friends' social club. Only thing I can eat there is fish and a double order of coleslaw because everything else is full of carbs and fat--French fries, macaroni and cheese, hush puppies, fried mozzarella sticks. I'll take along some green beans. I'm going to see if I have a recipe for low carb, microwave chocolate macaroons to make before we leave to keep me away from the dessert table.

Everyone, congrats to our group. I read several comments today about our challenges and what we're doing to overcome them or manage them as best we can. I've started over MANY times since I joined FitDay in 2011, and due to that, I'm down 14.6 lbs. from my highest weight ever. It's taking me a lonnnnnnng time, but I'll get to a healthful weight if I KEEP starting over whenever I need to.

Jenn, congrats on yet another productive day with the Wii and exercise doing housework that is burning extra calories. Good job adding the salad to the noodles.

Becca, well done on the workout last night! Thanks so much for your support in reminding us that messing up does not mean we've failed ourselves.

Libby, best wishes on your jump start. :) Yes, do let us know how it's going. Is there anything in there about a combo of fat and protein helping one feel full longer or is it like extremely low fat? I can't do 800 calories--in fact, I can't handle less than 1200 calories. Do they give you tips and tricks on how to feel full on so few calories? I could drink an oil tanker full of water and it wouldn't diminish my hunger pangs. Maybe it's just psychological for me. One could certainly eat a lot of veggies on 800 calories--my faves are the low carb green ones like green beans, cabbage, brussels sprouts, spinach, broccoli, kale.

Julia, welcome! :) I so admire your positive attitude! Of course, I can't put myself in your shoes, but I would imagine that joining a group and having more motivation and pals to chat with daily could help ward off depression. Just by posting here today, you have already served as a shining example that one can do wondrous things even in the hardest of circumstances. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Debbie! Congrats on being down 4.4 lbs. this week! Wow, is that fabulous! Kudos on all the inches lost. I don't measure--I find it so mortifying to see my numbers at 5' tall and over 225 lbs. Same thing with pictures--I just can't do it. But I can feel that my jeans waistband isn't as tight as it was a couple weeks ago. Hey, whatever works for you is just fine--seems to be working great. I've been logging my food and doing well on it, but not doing the work of posting it in my reports.

Jedi, OK, your weight is exactly the same is last week, so congratulations on not regaining! You had to have done something right, so give yourself the credit you deserve. Oh, I just saw that, kudos on the extra protein. :) Sometimes life does get in the way of our best intentions. Good for you for being determined to nip the soda consumption in the bud before it becomes a bad habit again. I can't remember where I heard it recently that soda, both full sugar and diet, can cause one to crave calories. It may have been on the ABC Network TV show THE DOCTORS. If I were you, I'd allow myself to have a reasonable slice of cake, too. I know if I tried to have absolutely none at all I'd probably do good the first few hours and then eat an enormous hunk of leftover cake in the late evening. Wishing you a fun time with the birthday boy and your family. Almost forgot--simple but super yummy sandwich today on the 100% Whole Wheat with Flax Flatout Foldit bread: just deli sliced roast beef and mozzarella cheese. I folded it over on a glass plate and microwaved it on high about a minute until it was nicely warmed and the mozzarella was melted.

April, great report again! Bravo on the lunch management under difficult circumstances. Well done on your exercise. Surely glad you had your eyes checked before they got worse. At least peanut butter is something nutritious, so you could have done way worse than peanut butter cookies. Maybe that adventure will serve to keep your body guessing. :) As you told Jedi, "You can do it and not let it ruin all of your other progress."

wildbeanerz 03-07-2014 08:59 AM

So I didn't do as well as I could have but it wasn't a total failure for lunch. I went to our little store and bought a small container of potato salad. Then later in the afternoon I had a single serve bag of chips. Guess it could have been worse. LOL

01gt4.6 03-07-2014 10:24 AM

So glad to see so many familiar faces again. I've been dealing with a lot lately and have really been in a funk. I know I need to come on back because this really is some great support. I guess I can start by making some weekend goals.

Diet stuff:
1) Drink a lot of water. (This has always been a strong point, drinking 100+ oz, was never really a problem. I'm down to one or two 16.9 oz bottles a day:eek:)
2) Log my food. (I don't remember when the last time was)
3) Weigh in and log my weight (It's been too long for that too)
4) Try to make better food choices (pffft, you don't even want to know)

Get my head right/ relieve stress stuff:
5) Go for a walk (even if it's just a mile or two)
6) Go for a bike ride (motor... not pedal)
7) Spend a little extra time outside
8) Break out the camera and take at least one good picture
9) Send some brass down range (if time allows)
10) Pray for good things to come and think about crap that makes me happy.

I guess that's enough for now.

Mern 03-07-2014 11:04 AM

April, congrats on your controlled "cheat." I have no excuse--I DID make some fairly decent microwave cookies (dump and taste-no recipe) with protein powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, unsweetened coconut, egg substitute and water. I took them with me to the fish fry and my meal was on plan, but I didn't say no to the brownie I spied on the dessert table. Honestly, I didn't even TRY to fight it. Back on track as of this minute.

Mike, welcome back! So sorry to learn life was kicking you in the rear lately. I hope your time here gives you a lift. Yeah, you don't need to tell us what all you've been eating--no sense dwelling on that--just start anew like you intend to. Sounds like good plans for your diet stuff and for relieving stress. What's "shoot some brass down range?" Is that target practice at the shooting range? Couldn't help but smile over your wording of "Think about CRAP that makes me happy."

01gt4.6 03-07-2014 11:08 AM

Mern, Thanks! That's exactly what that means. For me, shooting is a great stress reliever.

lildebbieg 03-07-2014 11:52 AM

Good evening all! Checking in with my weekly goals....

1. Track calories - M - yes, Tu - yes, W - yes, Th - yes, F - yes
2. Exercise 7x (scheduled morning interval workout) - M - yes, T - yes, W - yes, Th - yes, F - yes
3. Do doubles (second workout) 4x - 1X T - yes, 2X W - yes, 3X Th - yes, 4x F - yes
4. Drink 3 litres of water daily - M - yes, T - yes, W - yes, Th - yes, F - yes
5. No alcohol - M - yes, T - yes, W - yes, Th - yes, F - ummmm, nope!

So not all green today, but at least by counting calories and logging my exercise, I see that I broke even today. That, I can take! So hard to not indulge on the weekends, but I'm going to try my best to keep it in check!

simplybea 03-07-2014 11:24 PM

Hi everyone,

First time posting in this section.

I know what will work for me. 3 meals a day, no sugar, salt, white flour! That is the foundation for success for me.

This is the first time I have ever kept a journal and counted calories EVER (did I happen to mention I am 50 -lol).

I have gone a couple of days this week without any bread products and actually felt really good. I had 1 apple and 1 banana total during the week.

Yesterday was a learning experience!

I think I was trying to see how few calories I could get away with. Can I say I failed spectacularly! I didn't really plan lunch, so had an apple and a banana..... not good for the sugar addicted soul. I ended up making a grilled cheese in the afternoon, which left me not really hungry at supper so I baked a small potato........ which left me hungry before bed...... 2 apples and a banana later.... I felt like crap. Calories ended up over 1500.. mostly carbs and sugar. I already highlighted how I felt! Lesson learned. Plan meals and eat protein with each meal. On a good note 9 solid hours sleep last night! I feel like a new woman.

While yesterday wasn't a complete washout it was not good. So my accountability for today:

3 meals and nothing else but coffee and water.
No fruit today! I had enough yesterday lol.
Protein with every meal
Enjoy the food I do cook
Get out in the sunshine
Be grateful for LIFE!

Have a fantastic Saturday everyone!

Welcome back Mike This is a good place to hang out for some support. Post that good photo when you take it. I am going to try and get some of the ice fishing village that is developing on the Bay in front of my place. Hopefully it's their last weekend.

I am annoyed at dining out. I was out with friends last night - great time - preplanned how much wine and what food I would have and stuck to my plan. Had lots of laughs but my weight is up over a pound. Calories went a little above anticipated as the servings were likely all twice a serving size. . I expect the issue is a sudden increase in salt as I have been not eating any prepared foods the past couple weeks. Hopefully the gain will go away as fast as it came!

libby116 03-08-2014 01:22 AM

The jump start diet is challenging to say the least. It is very hard to stay under 800 calories and I was over by the end of the day. I walked for 45 minutes on the treadmill and was supposed to get in another exercise session later in the day but I was too tired. I did get my eight glasses of water in and found that the easiest thing to do. Drink 2 glasses before every meal and one between meals plus tea and coffee so I was going to the bathroom a lot.
Then there is the 40/40/20 rule: 40%protein 40%carbs 20%fat and unlimited vegetables. No complex carbs after breakfast, I had sweet potato fries with supper. I am down one pound this morning. Yay.

Day 1 March 7 175
Day 2 March 8 174

All in all I think it was a good day, not perfect but good.

Welcome back Mike!! I was thinking about you the other day since I saw a king cake on Rachael Ray. I like how you say "that's enough for now"--um that's a long list! I'm with you on the stress relieving, yesterday wasn't so good for me.

Welcome Bea!

I did well on lunch option but I seemed to be hungry all afternoon and felt like I was nibbling. I did drink lots of water so hopefully that will offset it.
I managed to lose half a pound this week--better than nothing.

debbie, only 1 red the whole week so far. I think that's fantastic! So much exercise!

Hello Bea!

Mern, so glad you are enjoying the flatouts! Isn't the wheat flavor in the wheat/flax so good? I think it is. And yes, I think that's what is happening with the soda. Just a little bit and I'm back to feeling famished and craving more sugar.

Libby, your jump start plan seems sooo hard! How long will you be at 800 calories? That seems too low to me. Great job on that pound gone!

Well, yesterday was a big huge fail for me. I didn't care how much frosting I ate, and although I did measure and log, I don't want to admit how many Tbsp's I actually did have. I had 1 1/2 sodas. I shared some nachos. But hey, I only had 1 piece of cake! lol But then I had ice cream to go with it.

Ok, so I fell off the wagon with a gigantic thud. But I'm back at it today. I'd like to try to get in an exercise session or two this weekend, but I don't know if that will be possible. Daughter is taking the car most of the day and night today. Since I won't be out I will not be going through any drive thru's do pick up any soda. I will be home with nothing but what's in the pantry, which is mostly not bad. I think hubby wants pizza tonight. I will be making another HG Flatout Thin Spicy Italian crust with lots of great stuff on it...minus all the oil this time. Can't wait for that! I better get the onions started in the crock pot so hopefully they're done in time.

Son's birthday was real nice. He got a tablet both for storing/listening to music as well as going on the internet with it. He seemed to like it. He got 2 of the same CD's, so he'll be taking one back and getting something else. We had a nice time. Even my older daughter sat and visited with us, which is very unusual for her. My younger daughter is already telling us all the things she wants for her birthday...and it's in December! lol

Hopefully some better things to report tomorrow.

I already have 4 glasses of water in and 50 min walking on the tread mill.
Breakfast was 1 packet steel cut oats with 1 tsp. cinnamon, a cup of mango and pineapple and a cup of coffee with 1% milk. That will keep me full for a few hours. So far so good.

Jump start is only for 3 weeks. I want to lose 10 pounds before Easter when we are getting together with all the in-laws.

I Know what tomorrow's breakfast is going to be! Was it as good as it sounds? (I have all of those things and LOVE the taste and texture of steel cut oats)

I put 1 cup of steel cut oats and 4 cups of water on to boil. Once it hits boiling, I turn it on to a low boil for 5 minutes. Let it sit a few hours, then divide it into 4 bowls, cover and put in the fridge. It thickens overnight in the fridge. Take out and microwave for about 3 minutes ( I have an old slow microwave). Adjust water to desired consistency.

The oatmeal and fruit was yummy and filling. Enjoy.

It's very hard to keep my calories under 800 but I am trying very hard. I am eating more leafy green vegetables and drinking more water to fill up. My goal is to lose 10 pounds by Easter. Who wants to join me?

lildebbieg 03-08-2014 01:51 PM

Hi all :D By setting goals this week, I see that wine is my weakness (already knew this! Why does it have to be high in empty calories!!?!?!) and I love to exercise (already knew that! the bigger the burn the better!!), but what I have learned is that by tracking my calories I can clearly see that I can enjoy some wine and still have a caloric deficit or at worst, a caloric balance. Both Friday and Saturday, I've managed to balance my calories out/calories in. So no loss...but no gain...and I don't feel deprived...a good thing!

1. Track calories - M - yes, Tu - yes, W - yes, Th - yes, F - yes, Sat - yes
2. Exercise 7x (scheduled morning interval workout) - M - yes, T - yes, W - yes, Th - yes, F - yes, Sat - yes
3. Do doubles (second workout) 4x - 1X T - yes, 2X W - yes, 3X Th - yes, 4x F - yes, 5X , Sat - yes
4. Drink 3 litres of water daily - M - yes, T - yes, W - yes, Th - yes, F - yes, Sat - yes
5. No alcohol - M - yes, T - yes, W - yes, Th - yes, F - no, Sat - again no

Libby - You know I love a challenge and appreciate that you've always supported me in challenges!!! So 10 lbs. from yesterday's weigh in ?!?!?! That would put me under my goal weight. How about I join you in this challenge and I'll aim to reach my goal weight by Easter!!!
OMG....can I really do this....!!!?!?!?!?!?!

Julia & Bea - Welcome!!!

Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend!

Mern 03-08-2014 02:16 PM

I didn't log my food today, but know I did well. Went off my 28 day bootcamp today--just for the day--needed a day off--and promise to resume tomorrow. Water was lacking. Was trying to watch the movie THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS on TV but so much of it is slaughter that I chose to come here instead. I'll probably have nightmares over the bit I did watch. But I had a good, productive day getting some things organized around the house.

Jedi, yes, I did notice the wheat flavor in the wheat/flax Foldits is so delicious. Oh, does that make a divine grilled cheese! I have a bunch of low carb tortillas in the freezer that I transferred to heavier freezer bags because it'll take me a long time to use them up-- because now that I've got REAL bread I can eat (the lower carb Flatout) I'll be SWITCHING to Foldout. Half a huge light Italian herb is lower net carbs than my low carb tortilla, is plenty big for a nice sandwich, and I'll make room in my on-plan menus for only 3 extra Foldit carbs. :) Geez, as I read your note about the soda, I started regretting I had two diet soda's today. I'm not addicted--just over-indulging. I couldn't help but smile over your feast for your son's birthday. But, hey, yeah-- you had only one piece of cake! LOL Kudos on your Flatout pizza plans--sounds so yummy. Oh, those tablets look so nice--so many kids have them nowadays. Glad you had a fun time with the kids.

Mike, I'm scared of guns, but glad you have a way to let out tension. :)

Debbie, very nice Friday. Breaking even on calories is good, especially since you enjoyed a bit of alcohol. . Wow, great job on using tracking to gain some personal insight about your own needs--since there's no such thing as a one size fits all diet. Kudos on all your exercise.

Bea, welcome. :) You're off to a very good start, Calories a little over 1500 isn't bad, but replacing some of the carbs with low carb veggies would give you a boost. I have a long way to go to be at ideal weight, and need to practice more of what I preach. My wonderful doctor helped me work out a custom diet that helps me keep my blood sugar and cholesterol in the normal range through diet alone. Both used to be high. I'm striving to eat 5 or 6 small meals instead of three big ones to spread my food out over the day better--keeps me feeling more satisfied and helps keep my blood sugar more stable. Tip for you, save yourself a protein snack for in the evening--about two hours before you go to bed. I also have a protein snack between meals. It is supposed to help keep your metabolism sped up. Good job on the goal of protein with every meal and on the sleep! I can enjoy low carb fruit such as 3 large strawberries or a slice of cantaloupe or honeydew melon or half a fresh peach when they're in season--way lower in carbs than bananas or apples. I love your goals of enjoying the food you cook, getting out in the sunshine, and being grateful for life. :) I wish I could eat steel cut oats, but I can have only 25g net carbs per day if I want to stay off meds for high blood sugar. I add water and protein powder to flaxmeal, then microwave it to make a yummy breakfast "cereal."

Jenn, sorry you were hungry all afternoon. Kudus on losing that half pound--that's way better than my fifth of a pound, but mine is better than nothing, too.

Mary, so sorry for your frustration over the gain from eating out. It likely IS due to the increased sodium. I cheated only with a brownie yesterday and was up .2 a lb. overnight after .2 having been the total of my weight loss all last week. In addition to doing some new exercise which may be causing a slight increase in water retention in muscles I don't use as much, I also remembered that last week I was taking Alka Seltzer Plus antihistamine for allergies causing sneezing and runny nose--sometimes twice a day. I forgot it has a lot of sodium in it. So that's my story and I'm sticking to it. LOL Really, though, that is true, and I hope now that I'm off that OTC med, maybe my weight loss will resume because I HAVE been doing virtually everything else right.

Libby, I admire you for your determination on the Jump Start Diet. Kudos on all your exercise on being down a pound. You certainly are working hard at it. I hope that three weeks of 800 calories passes quickly for you. Kudos on eating more leafy green vegatables. Thanks for the challenge, but I have a goal of 220--5.6 more lbs. to lose by my March 28 doctor weigh-in. I doubt I'll make it but I'm trying.

Simple goals for first week back
1. post on this thread at least once daily M: Y, T: Y, W: Y, T: Y, F: Y, S: Y,
2. workout daily and record in diary how I feel from it M: Y, T: Y, W: Y, T: Y, F: Y, S: Y,
3. do not eat anything that I didn't bring to work with me or plan unless it's fruit M: Y, T: Y, W: Y, T: Y, F: N
4. at least three work cups of ice water daily M: Y, T: Y (2 but lots extra at home, W: Y, T: Y, F: Y

Hey... I remember that I needed to come here! Its 10:15pm my time but I did it! LOL .. Today was pretty good except high sodium and carbs for lunch/dinner. We had one big mid day meal instead of separating lunch & dinner today so it's all good. I didn't get in as much water as I do during the work week but I think I drank 4 of the 16.9oz bottles plus a glass. Today's exercise was taking Chloe for a 2 mile walk. It's slower walking with her because she is a very challenging dog but we were home in 1hr10mins. For those who don't know her, she was very abused until we got her at 15 months old in Jan of 2011. She is still extremely scared of noises, men and different situations. In our home she feels safe and will defend herself but out on a walk she would prefer to sit when scared and not budge or turn and try to go the other way. She is such a joy to me that I cannot believe anyone would ever treat her badly.

Mike...welcome back! I needed to come here too. We can do this! I may steal your picture goal and take a picture once a week of something that makes me happy and post it.

Mern 03-08-2014 02:40 PM

April, fantastic reports all week! Great job on having your big meal earlier. Not shabby on the water or exercise, either. :) My little sister is a dog rescuer, too--hers were malnourished and abandoned. Bless you both!

JuliaGulia2 03-08-2014 07:34 PM

Thanks for the welcome!

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for making me feel so welcome everyone. I am learning that I don't know as much about food as I should. I had an omelette for breakfast and had no idea there were so many calories in it! Wow. Also the Fitday program has me thinking before I eat anything - last night I looked dreamily in the pantry thinking 'what will I have?' but the thought of logging it, put me right off.
I have to convert my weight as we measure in Kilograms here.
A week ago I weighed 156 pounds and I have lost 2.5 pounds already. Do we weigh in on Fridays? Also if anyone has any low-fat salad dressing ideas that would be great. I so love Ranch Dressing - but I know its 145 calories per serve ! Yikes - that's so much to put on a beautiful salad.

libby116 03-08-2014 11:57 PM

Good morning. We changed the clocks ahead last night and I am up early.
I am waiting for the repair man to fix our water heater. He is supposed to be arriving any time between 8 am and 1 pm. I want to go and exercise but I am afraid I won't hear him at the door.
I am loving this jump start diet because I am seeing results finally. I have lost 3 pounds in 2 days and Bob says you can lose 20 pounds in 3 weeks. It took me a whole year to lose 20 pounds last year so If I can lose 20 pounds in 3 weeks I should be able to get to my goal weight this year. Maybe this is wishful thinking but it's been so long since I have been at a normal weight .
The lowest that I have been in recent history (in the last 15 years) is 165 so that will be the barrier to break. I am looking forward to that.
I will be back tonight with news of the day. Have a good one.
Debbie and Mern, We have 6 weeks till Easter. Lets do our best.
March 9, 172 :D:D:D
The repairman came at 8:00 this morning but no one answered the door because we didn't hear him. The only reason I know he was here is because I checked my e-mail at 9:30 and there was a cancellation notice. I had to call back to get another appointment and lucky for us he is coming back this afternoon between 1 and 6.
I skipped church to wait for this guy. Now my afternoon is ruined too. I am not a happy camper.
