I tried Durian
and I LOVED it!
It tastes like a mix between sweet onions, vanilla pudding, and banana. That might not sound appetizing, but I don't think I've ever had a more delicious fruit. It was sweeter than I thought it was going to be (I was expecting a very strong onion flavor). I had a small portion for 133 calories. :D |
Hmm. Never heard of it. I'll have to google it. When I first clicked this thread I thought maybe it was some kind of bread flour.
At least it doesn't taste like pickles and ice cream. ;) |
My favorite fruit from Thailand, where I spent many years, and Malaysia, fresh durian has a very strong smell, but is really delicious. We can get it here - usually available in our local Chinese supermarket (Super 88 in the metro Boston area). No idea of nutritional values, though...

VitoVino now that you mention it, it's possible someone could take that impression away from it. Maybe onions and ice cream though.
Google "Italian family Durian experience!!!!! ", great youtube video there. :)

Do you have any good recipes for it? I have some left. The lady at the Asian grocery store told me to try it in a smoothie. |

We drizzle a little lite coconut milk over the fruit - just have to go easy on the milk - it's pretty calorie rich itself... |
Durian has 2.97 grams of Potassium per calorie. This ratio is is just below green peas for the ratio between K to calories. :)

Here is a revision: your list is for 200 gram servings, my original numbers were for 5 oz, I think. At 200g or about 7.07 oz, the new numbers are:Amount Per Serving

Oh, rats! Numbers changed, but ratio didn't, so your observation stands... (but that durian is so-o-o good...., and it's a heck of a K pop for dessert!)

I finally tried an Asian Pear a few weeks ago. It was terrific. I find pears boring but this type was very good. Mangos remain tops on my list. |
Asian pears really are delicious but I can only get them when they're on sale because they're so darn expensive.
