Default Do you have any recommendations on ways to avoid drinking contaminated water

I will be travelling in a few days. Do you have any recommendations on ways to avoid drinking contaminated water while I’m out of the country?

You could probably go to a sporting goods store and pick up a filtered bottle.

Depends on where you're going. Like Mike said, the filtered bottles are a good option as long as the filter lasts, or you take spares.
I recently did Guatemala and Mexico, and was pleasently surprised by the options available. Use bottled water to brush teeth, but most places (cafes, hotels etc) we went to were very enviro-friendly and had water coolers so you can refill drink bottles, and the water they used for cooking was filtered.

Your hotel will let you know if the water isn’t safe to drink, if water is unsafe, there will usually be a notice posted by the faucet in your room, and the hotel will provide complimentary bottles for you to drink from. Make sure you use these bottles to take your pills and brush your teeth too.
