Default Sweet potatoes

I'm probably dumb, but why, with 200 entries for "potatoes", many of which specify "potatoes, white...." isn't there an entry for sweet potatoes? Are they the same, nutritionally, as white potatoes, ...or yams? Also, know that there is a pretty substantial difference in the nutrition of a whole potato (skin on) and one that is peeled. Would like to see values for potato skins (white, sweet, red, yams). Any tips?

It is strange. Yams are almost twice as caloric as sweet potatoes, according to nutritiondata (nutritiondata.self.com). I've substituted that in the past and didn't realize the difference. They are so similar in taste. There are entries for sweet potato fries - that probably doesn't help you.

I'd just create a sweet potato custom food. I don't know why the database has that problem.

sweet potatoes are definitely more tastey, I wouldn't be surprised if nutritional values were a little different

I've been using 'Sweet potato, cooked, baked in skin, without salt', which estimates 180 calories per cup... is that inaccurate?

Cadetter, did you make that a custom food entry? Or did you find it with a search?

I usually eat 1 piece of sweet potato every other day. It actually helps me feel full.

I see that 'sweet potato' as the search argument results in the entries for sweet potatoes. Seems that the 'es' at the end is the problem! Search for the singular in this case.
