Adding friends to FitDay.com

i am part of a group of folks doing a weight loss challenge at work and some of them are on fitday.com.

Riddle me this - how do i add them as a friend? when i go to my profile page and view the "friends" tab, there's no option to add as a friend? is there something special i need to do?

Thanks

Hi, I think it is an issue that the site needs to address.

In the meantime, you can make your profile public and then each of you could bookmark the URL. This is what I have done.

For instance, my profile is located here:
http://fitday.com/fitness/PublicJour...ner=doggiesnot

So, if your profile is public, you should be able to use the same link, but only changing the Owner portion. I believe if there are spaces that you replace those with a "+" sign, but I'm not certain.

Hope that helps!

In the toolbar at the top of the public pages, there is a "search for user" control. You can enter the friend's username there and it will take you to their page (if it is public). From there, you can click on the friend request button.

We are working on improving this functionality as we speak, so thanks for the feedback. Watch for some enhancements soon.

Thanks Jim! We are piling on the requests, aren't we? ;) Thanks for staying on top of it.

On a user's public page, I'm not seeing the friend request button. I'm using Firefox 3.5.6 and WinXP. :o

EDIT: I see it! I found that I have to be logged in, and use the search user feature like you said. If I just start with the URL, it doesn't show that I'm logged in and I don't have that button available. But just logging in showed User=<other.member> instead of me in the URL, even though it was my info on the page. Weird. Anyway, your way works!

Request are great! We have no problem with requests:) Keep 'em coming. We really appreciate that people take the time to let us know what they need. Our users have always been so nice, too. They are always so supportive even when asking for stuff.

So, don't be shy with feedback.

Can I allow others to see my food log?

Hi! I am new to fitday. I wanted to ask someone to check out my foods for today and yesterday because my carbs are waayyy high.. is there a way to do that? Like to post a link that will bring up my day? what about outsiders- I have a friend who I wanted to show my day as well but it says she has to log in.

Thanks!!

I wish I knew how to do this too. I've made my stats public but I don't know how anyone views them. It's very hard to navigate. I wish I could add friends too, I've tried adding contacts but nowhere does it say how to view them or their profiles. Anyone??

Go to the Profile tab above, click on it, scroll all the way down to the last item; there should be highlighted words about changing public settings; click on that and then indicate "make my journal public." That should do it :).

farahb7 04-26-2010 01:34 AM

Good Morning all!

in addition to Cassie's comment, when you are making your folder public, you have the option to make your food, activity, etc public. my carbs intakes are so hight also based on the food journal, everything seems to have carbs in it!!!!

add friend

Moderator did not answer the question as to how to add a friend. The page says I have no friends but their is no "add friend" button. Lame programming.

Fdmayestr,

Maybe you just didn't understand the answer to the question because he did answer the question.

If you are on your Online account (and you have made your profile public) you can follow the steps below to add a friend:

Click on the "Profile" tab, then scroll down to the bottom, and where it says "Public Journal" click on the link that says "Public Settings Page"

Once you have clicked on that at the top of the page under where it should say "Welcome, Fdmayestr" or above the "My Public Settings" tab - there is a search box that says "Find a member"

You need to know the person's username that you are searching for, and once you do, type their name into that box...hit Search and your member's page will come up.

On the left there will be a 'Send Friend Request' button - you will need to click on that.

Hope this helps!

Adding Friends

I just noticed that you can add friends to your homepage. I have agreed to be weight buddies with a couple of people and was going to contact them directly through My Friends, but I don't know how to add people or request friends. Anyone here know how? I really would like to keep in contact and sometimes these links get long.

alreadydoingit 08-03-2010 03:43 PM

I don't know - but I am trying to do the same. I added you as a contact to see what would happen. Let me know what the result was.

smooshmcsmeesh 08-03-2010 04:37 PM

I saw a button on someone's public journal page that showed to add them as a friend. But I wasn't sure how to add someone who has their journal set to private. I've just been adding contacts.

No luck. I saw and article in fitpc discussion, but don't quite understand what they were talking about. I'm going to keep trying to figure it out. I really would like to add my weight buddies there. Thanks for trying.

*** Edit: Figured it out. You have to make your journal public. You can put your settings so only friends see or some private, but the journal has to be public to get a friends request. Once you make your journal public, there is find a member search up top of page. It finds the friends that have public journals only. Then once their page comes up, look in the left hand upper corner and their is a button for friends request. Once they accept you as a friend, then you can view whatever logs they set public for friends and also leave notes.

smooshmcsmeesh 08-04-2010 06:47 AM

I made my journal public. Thanks for the update Zinal. Please feel free to add me as a friend if you like. You can never have too many of those! :D

[email protected] 08-04-2010 06:59 AM

Thanks for the research. I was wondering how to do that. I've made mine public.:)

crazycat0221 08-04-2010 07:27 AM

Hi I'm new here too. I believe all you have to do is click on the person's name and a drop down menu will fall and it's in there. :)
I just looked .... again. It's on your home page on the left side. Hope this helps. :)

ChunkyDunk78 08-05-2010 01:19 AM

Click on My Home Page.
in the search box, type the screename of the person you want to add. If they have a profile viewable to others, it will pop up (otherwise, you can't add them).
When the profile pops up, on the left hand side, it will have their screen name, a link to their fitness journal, and a button that says "Send friend request"

fnash4 08-06-2010 05:39 AM

I have just started using the site, but already find it to be great. Adding a friend was the first question I had and I was able to find this answer very easily. the only think I have come across that I would like to see is sugar added to the carb breakdown when i create a custom food.

MainJane 12-12-2010 06:02 AM

How do you add friends?

I cannot find anything about adding friends to my account. There is a friends page that says I don't have any, but no way to add them. Please advise.

I'm not sure how to do this either. I do know you can click on a user's name in the forum and add them to your list of contacts. I don't know if this is the same as friends or not. I've never added anyone to mine, so I have so personal experience.

Give it a try and see what happens.:D

Sharing items from food log w/ other users (friends)

It would be really advantageous to be able to go into a "friend's" public food journal and add their items to our own food log, to have a "Add This Item To My Food Log" button. Is this possible???

How do I share info with a friend?

My settings are set so that friends can view my log, but I can't figure out how to 'friend' someone or how to tell them to view my log. I think I may have 'friended' somebody I know yesterday, but I don't see anywhere if I did or not. Please help!
