Calories Burned is Way Off!

Very first day on the site, I'm figuring it out slowly but surely. However, looking at the calories in to the calories burned chart, I expected to see 0 (or something pretty low) for calories burned, because I haven't added any exercises yet. It said I burned around 2,800 calories (sedentary)!

How do I go about fixing that?

Also, how do I know how many calories I need to eat in order to lose weight? There has to be a quick link where it shows that info, but I can't find it.

Thanks for any helpful feedback.

Are you sure it's off? You can always create a custom metabolism.

I think so. I don't see how I can burn 2800 calories per day by being sedentary.

Check some of the calculators towards the bottom here. http://www.fitday.com/fitness/forums...inks-tips.html

Will do. Thanks for the link.

By the way, very impressive before and after pics. Great job!

calories burned

i am still confused. it says my baseline metabolism is 2,376 being mostly seated in the chart, but the Use the Harris-Benedict Equation i chose says that i burn 1,455 calories a day.

do i have to keep playing with sleep hours or inactivity until i get the right number in my chart? even when I use a custom base metabolism fitday increases it on the chart page, by turning it into some sort of hourly rate. is there a certain number of hours that it considers the baseline?

Jbletch,

The lower figure you mentioned is calories u burn if you never got out of bed. This program system then calculates calories you are burning living a sedimentary day, but remember you still burn calories living and breathing and walking around the house, getting the mail, etc. it all adds up. This system has added that factor in, to give you, based on that average kind of day, how many calories you burn. For me, I burn 2020 calories a day based on my lifestyle. So I eat about 1500-1600 calories a day, and I have losing approx a pound a week or so.

I hope this helps. Congrats on coming here and keep us posted on your progress!
