Default Breaking Recipe Calories Into Single Servings

I cannot answer your question about a "How To" location. This morning was my first visit here. I, too, was searching for a "Hot To" location.

As for custom recipes:
Today is 2/6 and I am making Oriental Chicken Vegetable Soup. I will click on the "Food" section for 2/7, enter the entire recipe and print the page. When I finish making the soup I will measure the entire amount of cups of soup made. I know I will consume 1 cup of soup. Therefore, if the recipe makes 10 cups of soup and I consume one cup I just use the appropriate decimal (in this case .10) when I enter it on today's page. I also enter the recipe into my custom foods so I do not have to go through this procedure again.

It sounds like a burdensome process, but after a little practice it just comes naturally.

There are great tools out there already that can help you calculate recipe nutrition content.

I use those two all the time. Calorie count so I can count how much food I have made; and a second opinion. SparkPeople for my main counter; because there are tons of user entered foods and you can enter your own nutrition information in case there is none.

Thumbs up recipe calculater

Thanks for the website recipe calculator at sparkspeople. I was wondering the same thing about my own recipes and am trying to cook more and stay away from packaged food. I entered the ingredients for a black bean & cabbage soup and it gave me the nutrition info and breaks it down by servings.

Wow - thank you for all of those links. I just tried Calorie Count Recipe Analysis and was so happy at how fast and easy it was! I joined FitDay yesterday and entered one of my recipes here and it took over an hour! I also had the same problems with measuring portions and even the ingredients. Thanks for making my journey so much easier!

Default But I want more than calories

Both of those recipe sites are fine for calories, but the nutritional data is quite limited. What makes Fitday better than the others (for me) is that it tracks a wide range of nutrients. Entering a soup recipe of mine into caloriecount gave me only:

Vitamin A
Vitamin C
Calcium
Iron

Nothing about magnesium, zinc, selenium, etc.

I'd love to find a recipe site that includes all the nutrient data that Fitday does. For now, I'll stick to doing them by hand in Fitday.

after you add the 'ingredients' don't forget step 2 which divides it into servings, otherwise you'll see the calorie content of the whole meal

Default custom foods help

Hey just started using fit and I am unable to find any instructions or tutorials its seems easy enough how ever I dont understand how to properly create custom foods for example I want to a add a shake in that consists of
Whey Protein Isolate, Greens+, L glutamin, L-arginine, 100% all natural peanut butter and milk. (using magic bullet aprox 1pint sized)

I dont understand how to add this all into one item or thing.

such as morning shake then I can add it to my food journal for tracking.

I basicly want my morning shake to == all ingredients mentioned.

I use a recipe calculator in another window, then open fitday and type the values in. This is the one I use, if you google "recipe calculator" you'll find a lot of them.

I do it like Lizzycritter does,too. There's just not a good calculator here (my only Fitday complaint). When I plug in more complex recipes I have to open a Word Doc and do a cut & paste of the amount's nutritional stuff under every ingredient. Then add them up and get totals of the nutrients for the entire recipe. Then divide into single serving sizes and that's what I plug into my custom food here at Fitday (and put the serving size in the title). Very long, but it's the only way I've found that works...good luck.
