WII Game play Exercise?

I'm using the WII Sports to do some exercise..What activity should I use that is similar to it in the activities tab? Thanks!

I just try to find something close--I usually go with mild aerobics or the like. I do WiiFit and it tells you the approx. calorie burn (though I think it's a bit optomistic).

Elliptical?

I am a newbie to the messageboards. Is there a way I can log my exercise on the elliptical machines? So far I have not found how. Thanks.

01gt4.6 01-05-2011 01:19 PM

you will have to log it as something else. As long as you match up the calories burned with what you burned it will be fine. It's all about calories in vs calories out.

This seems to be a popular request, we can see what can be done, if anything, about adding it in.

rj520 01-07-2011 05:33 AM

Plus one for the custom Activities!!!

01gt4.6 01-07-2011 07:07 AM

I'll see if we have any updates on this.

keycollect 01-09-2011 06:36 AM

i wouls also like eliptical

thanks for having CURLING on the site. It is sort of an unusual sport in the US - but a good workout (harder than it looks on TV olympics) and I love it

burdie4 01-09-2011 11:09 AM

I would also like to see an option to post custom activities - I can figure out how many calories I burned from other websites or from a heart rate monitor. I just need to be able to post accurately here. Instead I have been posting inaccurately (for example, I took a 1-hour bikram yoga class today but there is only a hatha yoga option, so I just said I did it for 3 hours so the calorie count would be closer to accurate . . . which still isn't right). Thanks in advance for adding this option!

janmac65 01-10-2011 11:06 PM

Activity options don't make sense

There is a Walk option for "walking to and from and outhouse" and a Running option for "running while pushing a wheel chair" but there is no option for a basic run at paces of 10.5 or 11 min miles. (Options run ...8, 8.5, 9, 9.5, 10 & then jumps to 11.5, 12, skipping 10.5 & 11). And since calorie consumption is more dependent on distance than speed, why is it even set up by speed? Shouldn't it just be general pace (maybe 2 levels) and then the amount of time you put in your log?

QofH 01-13-2011 10:39 PM

Holly, I agree - Where's the Pilates? Zumba? etc.

Ok - some of the posts asking for an update to the activities are over a year old! All of us who struggle with weight issues know that an exercise program is an important part of weight control and so is being able to track it. To keep it fresh you have to do new stuff and try new activities, So, where is the ability to add an activity? Anybody can get the calories for an hour of Zumba or Pilates with a simple Google search. At the least we should be able to add a custom acitvity that would allow us to adjust for the specific workout. (i.e. Zumba for an hour ranges from 400 - 600. Not feeling quite so energetic today - then use the lower number; high energy and totally "on" then use a higher number). Might be off a few, but vastly better than playing guessing games with the current choices! I am getting frustrated with this feature and I've only been using this site for several days.
I hope someone with responsibility for the site is listening. The site has many great features, but with a few tweaks could be awesome!

I enter it as "walking" and adjust the speed to match the calories burned.

Majahonke 01-19-2011 02:24 PM

Being new to Fit Day I find it odd that available activities listed include some things such as walking to the outhouse but does not include common fitness equipment. Also, I incorrectly thought before signing up for Premium service that I could actually add any activity. This is not the case.

Hullsfarm 01-31-2011 09:33 AM

Pilates?

I don't seem to see Pilates as an activity am I just missing it? If not, what do you suggest I substitute in FitDay for my 1 hr Pilates class (on machines)?

Bubbs21 01-31-2011 10:24 AM

Not the best, but in the absence of somethingelse, I select the Yoga/stretching option. I expect it undervalues the calorie burn..

I use calisthenics, because I do mine with pretty heavy resistance bands.

AlinaHuertas 02-05-2011 02:36 PM

There is something similar, stair-treadmill ergometer. When I use that in place of my eliptical, the calories burned is very close.

AlinaHuertas 02-05-2011 02:37 PM

The stair-treadmill is more accurate to what my elliptical says I burn

AngelWolf93 02-06-2011 02:36 AM

I, too, would like to see an elliptical trainer selection. I've been modifying "running." Every other site I've used to keep track of exercise has the elliptical listed, why not this one?

almeeker 02-06-2011 05:40 AM

I use running too, only like 2 mph faster than I can actually run LOL.

behaze 02-06-2011 01:17 PM

Pilates

Is there a possibility of adding pilates to the activity list? 30 minutes of advanced pilates is burning more calories according to a site another used linked to at healthstatus.com than FitDay estimates for 30 minutes of high impact aerobics, so I'm confused as to which to 'believe'.

Customize calories burned in activities

Hi there,

I have a Polar Hear Rate Monitor, so I can track how many calories I burn over x minutes of exercise. I can't seem to find a spot in activities that allows me to customize the number of calories burned during an activity.

For example, I'm lifting weights in a circuit for 60 minutes, and I know from my HRM I burned 400 calories. When I enter the activity, I have to choose a predetermined number of calories burned over 60 minutes. This renders my HRM useless for tracking using fitday. Very frustrating!

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

mecompco 02-08-2011 11:44 AM

I understand custom activities is on the programmer's radar but it will likely be a while. In the meantime, enter the exercise that most closely matches what you're doing and simply adjust the time to match the calories your device records. That way your numbers will be correct.

Regards,
Michael

HBea 02-09-2011 06:07 PM

Pilates

I take Pilates classes twice a week, and can't find it on the activities lists.
Could you please add Pilates to the list.

There are 3 basic levels, beginning, intermediate, and advanced. I don't know the amount of calories burned, however 'beginning' is akin to stretching where intermediate and advanced do raise you body temp quite a bit, leave you with increased breathing and heart rate and occasionally break a sweat when a full routine (1hour) is done.

basic212 02-10-2011 12:29 AM

Thanks for the info - I will be looking for that!

Breastfeeding - site suggestions

Hi -I am currently breastfeeding my 3 month-old and this is not listed as an activity on your site. I believe it burns about 500 calories per day. I think this should be added. Thanks

You have to be careful when you adjust the time if it is very far off...because that takes away from the time that it calcuates the daily level stuff. I'm not explaining it well, but if you have to adjust it a lot, it does throw your results off.

I have a Polar monitor, too, and I usually try to get as close as I can. Rather than adjuting the time, I keep the time in the activity the same but sometimes combine 2 categories, like 30 min light calesthenics and 30 minutes vigorous calesthenics, to get the right number for the hour to match my HRM. If you play with the proportion of the minutes in each, you can fine tune it pretty well.

Thanks for the clarification! For those who exercise a lot that is important to know. For us 30 min a day sloths, perhaps it doesn't matter as much? :o

Michael

No Elliptical Activity Log

Today I joined FitDay, and so far very pleased except for one thing...how do I log my time on an elliptical? I used the "jogging" option but it didn't calculate the same calories that were calculated on my elliptical. Any suggestions??

vabeachgirlNYC 02-11-2011 03:38 PM

Welcome to FitDay. :)

I moved your thread so you could read what others are doing until this can be added to the activity choices.

magpiered 02-15-2011 12:00 AM

Elliptical Option

I use the ergonometer option as well, but would love a choice for Elliptical. It is such a popular machine you would think it would be an option.

vabeachgirlNYC 02-17-2011 09:13 PM

It would be great to be able to add breast feeding for a custom activity. I would like to have a custom activities feature added as well. We have already put that request in to Admin.

For now you may want to use an another activity to add those calories in since you burn about 20 calories for every oz. of breast milk your body produces. :)

mcavaretta 02-19-2011 03:10 AM

The fact that you can't manually enter calories burned is a major shortcoming. I use a heart rate monitor and know exactly how many calories I burned in a particular activity. It would be much easier and more accurate if I could simply enter this number in. Better yet, it would be great if this information could be automatically transferred from Garmin Connect.

as far as transferring from Garmin, I haven;t heard anything on this one, but I am still being told that a "Custom Activities" should be here soon. I hope so.

Breastfeeding?

I wasn't sure where to put this....
Is there a way to put that you are breastfeeding as a woman requires more calories when nursing a baby?

demodiva 02-26-2011 04:56 PM

More activities needed for tracking

Dear FitDay,

I cannot seem to find gym classes like a regular cardio/aerobics one, a spinning class, step aerobics, etc. Please advise which ones to use or when you will add such cardio workouts to the mix. Other websites have them so I'm stunned you don't. Are they hiding somewhere?

Kohsamui 03-01-2011 12:13 PM

FitDay exercise updates - not likely anytime soon...

But, maybe they'll get to it sooner rather than later... I found something under stationary cycling, and aerobics (dacing?) that might be of help. Sometimes you have to "translate" a little to get some data you can use...

cshpgh 03-16-2011 07:43 AM

Breastfeeding in Activities?

I'm still nursing my baby but I can't find breastfeeding in activities. Since I'm burning right around 400 calories/day right now, this is pretty significant. Is there a way to create an activity?? And no, I'm not harshly dieting or exercising, and no, it will not affect my breastmilk. :)

annervin 03-31-2011 08:39 AM

Hot Yoga

Yes. Please add HOT YOGA to the activities (Bikram, Hatha, Power). For my weight, I'm burning 839 calaries in 1 hour :)

You may want to send something via email through the "Contact FitDay" link at the bottom of the page, as it is apparent that they are not active on the discussion boards.

Unfortunately I have sent multiple requests to Admin (so have the two other ACTIVE moderators) and we can’t seem to get a straight answer. We were being told that the changes are coming, but now we can’t even get a reply from Admin. I’m beginning to believe that since “Los Tres Amigos” can’t do much other than rid the board of spammers that this place really is running on auto pilot as others have mentioned.

Internet Brands and Admin seems to have dropped the ball, once again. Maybe FitDay isn’t a big concern for them, which is a shame. Maybe, just maybe if they took the time to read some of the threads and meet some of the people here they’d realize how many lives this site has changed. Maybe that would light a fire under someone’s ass and they’d get busy making the changes that are needed to keep FitDay competitive with the other sites that are out there.

I almost feel bad for airing this out here but I originally brought this up in private and got NO response, other than from the other two moderators. Maybe changes are coming, I don’t know. If they are it is coming at a snail’s pace. I can’t continue to make excuses for someone else that lacks the ambition to see this site prosper. I owe IB or Admin NOTHING. I am a volunteer and a damn good one, and so are mecompco and vabeachgirlNYC. I will continue to moderate (I guess be a “spaminator”) for the members of FitDay, b/c that’s all I can do. I truly hope that we don’t start to lose our active members, not because it has any affect on my wallet (b/c it doesn’t) but b/c I consider this community to be a family.

cjohnson728 04-01-2011 08:36 AM

I appreciate the work all three of you do.

A couple times in the past days when I've logged on, there's been a survey pop up about whether or not it wold be beneficial to have access to dieticians via FitDay. So someone is doing something, somewhere, but IMO there are bigger priorities...
