Quinoa calorie count grossly inaccurate

Hi there,

Just posting that the quinoa calorie count in the database is wrong (very wrong.) It lists 1 cup of quinoa at 636 calories. I searched elsewhere (calorieking.com and the USDA nutrient database) and they both list it at 222 calories for 1 cup of cooked quinoa.

FYI! Hope you change/update it soon. :)

The FitDay value sounds like what would be in a cup of raw quinoa...does it specify?

The dry cup is going to have a lot denser volume of calories than the cooked cup. The measurement is for the dry cup. It's better that way because you can weigh the grains on a food scale for the proper serving size without cooking them first.

Yup it is a cooked vs. raw issue. A cup of uncooked (raw) quinoa is 636 cals, but 1 cup uncooked turns into nearly 3 cups cooked. Thus, 1 cup of cooked quinoa is 222 calories. FitDay's calorie counter usually specifies cooked or uncooked, but not in this case.

I hope that helps, Emily.
