So HC, I plan on running this winter. I've got an Asics warmup suit (breathable/waterproof), a heavy wool hat with face covering, and ski gloves. The only question I have is for shoes. Is there something that can cover shoes to keep them from getting soaked if/when I'm running in the cold rain?

Vito, there are Gore-Tex socks. Never used them so I have no idea how well they hold up or how well they work.
Wool socks should be a good alternative as wool holds warmth even when wet.

I always used my regular socks but I never had to deal with the weather like where you are.

Yea my running this morning was 34º... it was chilly but the sun was out. I ran 6 miles in 1:03:30 which included a slight stop to tie my shoe. My training calender says I should be running at an 11:45 pace but I'm comfortable at a 10:30 pace, does this make a difference?

If you're comfortable, it's an appropriate pace.

How is your schedule determining training pace?

The training schedule I got, I think from running world, asked what time I would want to run the Half at and what my most current race/pace was and calculated everything else...

I agree with HC, if you are comfortable at a faster pace - go with it. You can then adjust the calendar and pace schedule accordingly. The plans RW (and others) put out are intended as guides, not hard and fast rules, so use your performance as the indication of where you are training-wise.

BTW: Whoohooo! on 6 miles and the 1 hour mark. I remember quite clearly looking down at my watch and realizing I had run for more than an hour - it was quite a milestone for me

Urban, You need to run a hard race. Somewhere in the 5-10K range to get an accurate prediction of your training paces and possible half marathon time.

This calculator
is excellent.
