I have it on my work computer so won't be able to send it until Monday.

P90x

Hi all!
You may or may no know from reading my other posts, but I'm currently doing a bootcamp-style training session twice a week. Also about to deck out my cousin's garage with gym equipment bought / borrowed from family, and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the P90X?
It seems really, really, good and I don't mind forking over the money if it's going to help me, so any experiances anyone has had with the program would be great. :)

Hey, wowgirl. I can't speak from long experience, but I've been doing this program since Monday, and I can already tell it's working. Every single muscle in my body is sore (in a good way) and the instructor is very motivating. I can't wait until my three months are up and I have a spectacular new body. They're also going to give you an awesome adrenaline high.

I think if you're going to go ahead with it, look on ebay so you're not forking over as much money. There aren't as many copies available on Oz ebay (where I got mine), but you might get lucky. Also, make sure you get the Nutritional Guide with them - even if you don't choose to follow it, it's good, I think, to get an idea on the different stages of diet and how best to fuel your body for each phase.

A few people on here have gone the distance and more, so hopefully they'll pop up and share their experience with you, too.

Brilliant! The nutrition part for me would be good, because I don't eat much at all. And it's not cause I'm trying to lose weight, I'm just not often hungry. For example I didn't eat anything yesterday until about 6pm, which I know isn't good, but I tend to feel sick in the morning (no, I'm not preggers!), and eating makes it worse.
Hopefully it will have some suggestions on what would be good.
I won't do it every day because I do bootcamp twice a week, but probably 3-4 times a week. Another issue I have is living in a tiny apartment, so I'll be going to my cousin's place (I'm setting up a gym in his garage) after work and maybe on Saturdays to do it.
Thanks for the reply! :)

As for not being hungry . . . well, I was initially concerned about upping my calories to 1800 per day (), but now I've settled in, my body actually needs the good food, and I have no troubles consuming that much (because I know it's all healthy food, high protein and low carbs). You might possibly find your body choosing to revert to a healthier eating schedule, increasing your metabolism and doing all that wonderful stuff that makes us feel good!

If you're just going to do it a few times a week, once again, I'd suggest you also get the Fitness Guide (if you get the Nutiritional Guide, you should get the Fitness one with it) so you can better judge for yourself which workout to do on which day.

Good for you, and I hope you find it and enjoy it. :D

Thanks for your advice behaze!
One more question, do you think the "Insanity" program would be better for losing weight, then the P90X for getting muscle later?
The Insanity is also done by BeachBody, and it seems to be more cardio (but still with light weights).
I'll push myself either way, but if I'm going to be out of breath within minutes of starting the first P90X session, maybe something a bit lighter would be best?
So anyone with advice on BeachBody products in general I'd love for you to chime in!

I was also looking at Insanity, but decided to go with P90X because my partner wanted to do something exercise-wise with me, and that's what he wanted to do. I didn't have any specific preference either way. From what I understand, though, Insanity is more intense because it's all crammed into half-hour workouts rather than hour long ones. P90X does have three different programs you can do - Classic, Lean and Doubles (all the same DVD set). Lean is more for people who don't want the muscle bulk (mainly women), but Classic won't bulk you up either, if you use lighter weights and just do more repetitions (which is what I'm doing).

However, I think they'll both work if you stick to them, so really, I'm not much help here! :p

Hehe, all good!
I do want to get muscle going for sure (don't care if I look weird cause of muscles!!), but I don't want to get the program if I literally CAN'T do it. I've been reading up, apparently there's a lot of pull-ups in it, and there's no way I could do one at this stage. So if it's do-able through determination, that's fine, cause I have that, but if I can't physically do it then I don't want to waste the money.

behaze 03-16-2011 03:30 PM

Don't worry, I can't do a pull-up, either. They have a modified version using one foot on a chair for those who can't do a full pull-up (and if you don't have a pull-up bar in your gym equipment, you can get a screwless over-the-door one from Big W for $10), so I use a chair. I'm hoping by the end of it I will be able to do many unassisted pull-ups.

Actually, they have lots of modifications for beginners and on the hardest DVD of them all (plyometrics) one of the back-up guys has a prosthetic leg to show anyone can do it if they work through the pain barrier and just do it. One of the mottos is 'Do Your Best, Forget The Rest', meaning you do what you can do (and not by wussing out, but pushing yourself until you can't do it anymore) and don't worry that the super-fit people in the background can do more than you can, or can lift more, or go faster or whatever. You're supposed to do what you can do, and work your way up to challenging yourself more.
