weight training DVDs

ok, i have lost the weight and even though i was exercising during my weight loss, now i feel the need for a good weight training dvd to build up lean sexy muscles.
could anyone please suggest a good weight training dvd to help me acheive this goal? by the way, if it is not a dvd, but a game for xbox360 or wii, that's still good too, or maybe it's even better than a dvd, (hopefully it gets my kids moving too?)

I use Wii Gold's Gym Cardio Boxing, and I put wrist weights on for added "ooompf". I've heard really good things about the P90X series but I understand it is hardcore and expensive to buy (check the library?). Also, Body for Life, has a website with a lot of free info including how to video's. My daughter in law does something called Crossfit and she looks awesome.

P90X gets my vote, hands down.

tandoorichicken 12-19-2010 07:07 PM

Farah,

Just because you mentioned lean sexy muscles I have to also put my vote in for P90X. I've found that intense Crossfit-style workouts (like P90X) really do wonders for women in terms of "lean sexy muscles." :)

ok, don't want to sound like a whinner, but isn't P90X sooooo hard to do? i see the workout and feel exhausted and scared to death just by watching it! :o

01gt4.6 12-20-2010 03:55 AM

you don't sound like a whinner... and P90X is HARD, that's why it works so well. To be honest, the 1st few days - week are total hell, once you get passed that it gets much easier. I work with a guy (probably late 40's) that I convinced to do it a while back. He told me that if it weren't for me telling him to just tough out the 1st week he would be beginning ROUND 3!!:D He's around day 200 of the 90 day program.

farahb7 12-20-2010 04:45 AM

Could anyone do this program or is it for people at advanced physical levels? i have not ever been able to pull myself up a door bar yet, i don't know if i can do it now?
i'm really trying to get as much info and facts as possible before commiting myself to any program. hope you understand? :D

01gt4.6 12-20-2010 05:38 AM

I was in pretty bad shape when I started it, so I'd just just about anyone can do it. As far as not being able to do any specific exercise, the program shows how to midify anything. You can do assisted pullups by putting a foot on a chair.

midwestj 12-20-2010 06:26 AM

Try Turbulence Training if you want to workout less. I know P90x works but I also know that it is a 6 days a week plan.

TT is a 3 day a week plan. Check out the women under 40 category: Fat Loss Quick Weight Loss Transformation Contest Burn Fat
The middle entry got very lean on this program.

P.S. Those exercise video games for the Wii and the xbox 360 Kinect will do very little to helping you build muscle.

P.P.S. Vote for me in the men under 40 category. (Jason)

I went back to my gym part time just to lift HEAVY safely! I received a very nice (non sexist) compliment on my http://www.snay.org/smileys/ass.gif the other day, thank you heavy squatting! I also do the P90X abripper. It works! I am thinking of doing the whole 90 days but don't know if I can give up the lifting during that time.

tandoorichicken 12-20-2010 09:05 AM

vabeachgirlnyc,

Go ahead and do the 90 days! I'm all for switching up programs. Usually what happens is you give your body a chance to fully adapt or recover from heavy lifting while you do other things, then you come back stronger. I normally change up programs every 2-3 months or so anyways, but this year for personal reasons I was forced to take a break from squatting or deadlifting for three months, and interestingly enough, I put 20 lbs on my max squat about a week after coming back to the gym. I say you give it a try!

farah,

It's the programs that are the hardest that will give you the best results. I don't think any powerlifting program can match P90X in terms of sheer conditioning improvement and getting just plain ripped. It's like those bros at the gym with huge biceps and skinny wimpy legs. They don't train legs because that's hard for them. Curls are easy for them. But they'd realize that if they focused on what was hardest for them they'd see the best gains!

I told vabeachgirlnyc 90 days ago to do it. ;)

The bros at the gym don't worry about legs b/c they hide their chicken legs in jeans. They just want to pump on their arms so they can go to the club and impress the ladies. I guess it doesn't matter since the ladies at the club will probably never see their legs. :p

That's a good question. I'd guess that most would say biceps. I try to stay pretty evenly proportioned... but my legs and back seem to dominate.

farahb7 12-20-2010 02:06 PM

hahahha!!!! good information, thank u all!!!!
AND guess what? i'm going for p90x!!!!! u know, i also thought i won't be able to lose weight but, i did it, now, i'm going to concentrate on this system and surprise myself by the results! i'll make sure to share my before and after photos so u all see how it worked for me as well. :D
but first, got to buy the system.
by the way do i have to get any other equipment other than the bar?

01gt4.6 12-20-2010 03:02 PM

a pullup bar, which I assume you have, bumbbells or resistance bands will do it. You don't have to get it from BeachBody, check out your local sporting goods store or craigslist.

sounds good... new or used, from a reputable source??

farahb7 12-30-2010 04:29 PM

that's the problem, i don't know how reputable they are! to me, it sounds too good to be true, but it seems to be a big enough store! what do u think?

it sounds like a really good deal, if new. If used just make sure it has the book and diet guide and that all the discs are in good working order. Is it on eBay or something? I know that craigslist is pretty full of scams.

If it doesn't have the book, I have a lot of that info on .pdf, I could send it to you.

farahb7 12-31-2010 02:13 AM

it is on a website called kijiji, and since i'm in toronto, it's kijiji toronto, under dvd, blu ray category. the omner says it's brand new shrink wrapped and i can inspect it completely, before buying it, but since their store also carried a lot of brand name items at very low prices, it's scarig me off.
Mike, what is the worst thing that can happen if it is not original?

01gt4.6 12-31-2010 02:27 AM

if you can inspect it before buying, I'd say go for it.

farahb7 12-31-2010 02:31 AM

ok, i will. thank you for all your help!

01gt4.6 12-31-2010 03:51 AM

no problem.
