The Wed Club - Weekly Check-In for 6/23/10

Good morning everyone!

How did your week go? Here's the place to share downfalls, slip-ups and successes.

Have a great day!

MollySue2 06-22-2010 06:39 PM

Hi guys,

sorry for the missing icon; I don't think I'm quite awake yet. :o

My week went pretty well actually, I'm down two more pounds! According to my calorie balance I shouldn't have lost more than a few hundred grams, so I'm wondering if I should chose another daytime activity (other than "sedentary"), since I seem to be burning more calories than fitday suggests?! Ah, well, never change a running system; at least I'm moving into the right direction. :)

I don't work out that much any more, so I take this as an oppurtunity to vow that I will work out at least four times this week.

Looking forward to hearing from all of you!

NessaSonic 06-22-2010 10:31 PM

I lost 2 pounds, which makes me....drum roll please...199lbs!!!!!!!!

I am under 200lbs!

I want to keep losing steadily so I can put some safety distance between my weight and the bigg 2-0-0

I'm shooting to lose 10lbs i this next month (I'm seeing a lot of family and friends at the end of July who haven't seen me in a while!), which means I have to up the intensity a bit!

36lbs hopefully gone forever! 64 more pounds to go until me ultimate goal!

fourank 06-22-2010 11:21 PM

NessaSonic Way to go. on the weight loss. I am sure you will lose the 10 pounds for this month. I was able to lose 15 pounds last month and I am hoping to repeat this again this month. I am happy that you got the 1 in the front of your weight I tto am hoping that I will be close to that. I am almost there.

Molly - 2 pounds nice job. I wouldnt change your status on fitday. I also have it set to the least amount of calories burned and I am losing more weight than I should be acording to fitday. It is a goal to push for. because if you are eating right the less you weigh the less you should be eating. And if you already are used to eating what you are eating now then you will continue to lose until you reach your maintaing phase.

As for me I still have been off the scale until Friday so I will post my update later this week. I just felt that sending you guys some modivation was well deserved.

Frank

Way to go, Everyone!

Nessasonic, that is just awesome! I am thrilled for you. What a great achievement! You should be very very proud!

And Molly, wow 2 pounds in one week is really impressive!

Fourank, I look forward to hearing about your progress but I'm already so impressed with you.

I was getting totally discouraged last week when I had only lost one pound. I know it was a loss but it was odd to me that I wasn't losing more in my first month on this plan. I exercise 6 times a week! Well I took the advice of some of the members here and raised my protein intake to between 30-35% and guess what? I lost THREE POUNDS this week! YAY! I could not be more excited. This puts my grand total at 6.6 pounds in 4 weeks.... which is good for me.

I only wish I could lose 10 pounds in one month. No matter how hard I work at it, I can't seem to do that. In any case, I am totally motivated and moving forward.

Have a great day, Everyone :)

almeeker 06-23-2010 05:37 AM

I did fairly well this last week. I'm down 3.1 pounds, I could have said I was down 4.4 pounds, but I was up for some reason this morning. I only put in a 30 minute workout yesterday, because I put in 2+ hours on Monday and needed a little break. I think I'm retaining water, it's been hotter than hades here and I didn't get in all my water yesterday.

Nessa, great job on getting down below 200, that is HUGE!!! Or should I say "that is so TINY"? Whoooo hoooo hooooooo!!! I think you need some new shorts and a cute little tankini, don't you?

avelina 06-23-2010 07:06 AM

Congrats NessaSonic on getting below 200! I bet it feels great!:D

I had a very tough week full of BBQ's and other events that seemed to revolve around food. I also ran out of energy during what was supposed to be a 30 minute run and only ran 20 minutes. I've not run out of hope and determination though, and yesterday ran my full 30 minutes (and could've kept on if I hadn't been meeting hubby for lunch!) and have kept my calories down for the past two days. My official weigh-in is Friday, but took a sneak peek this morning and the scale is lower than it was last week so overall I guess I did alright!:p

tjkhoover 06-23-2010 12:08 PM

Nessonic that is great....NEVER LOOK BACK....you will never see it again :)

Molly way to go on your 2# and mtlgirl 3#...you made up for last week. Yay to both of you!!!

Almeeker your progress is amazing....I bet you are very excited.

I bet everyone is very excited.

MY UPDATE: I haven't lost any weight in 2 weeks. I was a little frustrated but I took my measurements and felt a little better. I have lost 7 inches off my total body. 2.5 coming from the waist and 2.5 coming from the hips.

FAVOR TO ASK: Could those of you having success with regular weight loss post your calorie intake, height, age. I am not sure if I am taking in too much or too little. It sure would help me gauge a bit better.

Well I am 5'9" 30 years young. I like walks on the beach...lol! But really I am 5'9" 30 years young I take in anywhere btwn 2000 - 2500 calories but I have a lot of time on my hands where I am at so I workout all the time somedays 4 times a day. So I burn a lot of calories to make up for the ampount I take in.

I'm 5'7", female and 34 years old. My goal is 1500-1900 calories per day but sometimes I have more or (rarely) less. I only exercise three times per week. My weight loss is slow but is averaging 3-4 pounds per month.

I'm 5'5'' and 28 years old. I consume between 1300 and 1500 cals on a non-workout day and up to 1700 cals on a workout day.

Don't be discouraged! I'd much rather be smaller than be a number on the scale that no one will ever see but me and my doc!

anyways- I am 5'6" (my new) scale says I am 197.5lbs, I am 23. I had a lot of trouble losing weight in the past, but since I've really been working on my mindset and cut out sugar- I feel much more in control and as if I am making a permanent change. I exercise 5-6 times a week for varying amounts between 30-90 minutes. 2-3 time strength and the rest walk/jogging on the treadmill, sometimes a combo of both. My calories vary, but probably average out to 1500 a day (sometimes 1300, sometimes 1600). Mainly I try to get as much nutrition as possible.

kcolville 06-24-2010 03:24 AM

heyguys- i would love to check in on wendesdays with you all. my name is kaitlin ...

i am 6"2 and weigh currently 212.8 down 2.2 pounds since i start about 4 days ago-

Nessa- i like you would like to be far away from that 200 number... i would like to atleast get to 190 by halloween (my fav holiday) :) ten pounds isnt far away but..it is a start!

i'll be brutally honest the thought of working out 3/week and what i eat sounds somewhat dreadful but i am willing to do it for the end product and i am hoping to connect with some supports to help along the way.....perhaps this group!?

my week so far- well it is my first week so it has been hard- yet my bf is very supportive which helps. i am finding myself feeling almost sick i think from my diet change- my body seems to be sleepy and dragging all the time... hope this changes.

Look forward to next wendesday!

I'm short, almost a whopping 5'-2", 41 year old female, and I try to keep my calorie intake at 1,350-1,650/day, my water intake at 72-100 ounces and my calorie pie chart at 40% carbs, 40% protein and 20% good fats. I also try and keep my calorie deficit at 1,000-1,500, and I put 10,000 steps on my pedometer even if I have to run up and down the stairs a few times before bed. Most days I don't have to worry about my steps because I spend an hour either running or on the elliptical 6 days/week. I also get to the gym for an hour twice a week, where I warm up on the stationary bike, lift weights and do some core strengthening exercises.

mtlgirl 06-24-2010 06:04 AM

WOW, almeeker you rock. We are the same age and roughly the same height. I'm a whopping 1 inch taller than you. I have been trying to raise my protein intake and have it at about 30-35%. I find it so difficult. Do you mind sharing what you eat in a typical day to get your protein at 40%?

tjkhoover 06-24-2010 10:45 AM

Welcome to our group Kaitlin! :)

Thanks everyone for posting your stats, calories, and things that work for you. Appreciate your input very much.

fourank 06-24-2010 05:47 PM

Well here is my update: I have finally hit my wall. I didnt lose any weight I maintained this week. However, I did lose 1/2 inch around my waist from last week so I guess my lifting routine is the reason I havent lost weight I am building muscle this is what I am telling myself.

Kaitlin welcome to the group. We are here all the time and I log on everyday and check the board for and new updates or questions asked. You are amoung friends here.

Together we can reach out goals.

Frank

Congrats to you all on what you've lost and what you've gained in the way of learning what works and what doesn't.

Missed the Wednesday check in--the moon is full and work is always crazy; it's not just an old wives' tale! Trying to focus on maintaining and not slipping into forgetting to eat, then grabbing anything I can find when I finally get a break. Been doing okay with that.

Welcome, newbies; glad to have you :)

tkjhoover; I am 42, female, and 5'2". I am on maintenance now so calories run from about 1500 - 1800, depending on the workout schedule. When I was losing, I plugged in my numbers and followed this site exactly: Calorie Calculator - Daily Caloric Needs. Average calories were about 1300-1350 a day, though I did cycle them as the site suggests; higher on workout days, lowest calorie day on my rest day.

alice6065 06-26-2010 05:52 AM

Hi everyone,
Sounds like you all are doing great. I started going to a 2x/wk exercise class on 6/14 and am surprised to find out I actually like it.

I'm 61 years old, 5'7", and on 6/23 my weight was 192.5, down one pound from 6/16. I've been weighing myself daily, but I'm thinking this weekly check-in is a really good idea. I'm really close to being overweight instead of obese, and I want I want I want that.

My highest weight was 230 in 2007. I started tracking again on Fitday on 5/31 at 197 and set a mini-goal to reach 185 by 8/30 - that's 12 pounds in 13 weeks. I'm happy to report that so far I've been below the projected loss line on my weight goal graph even though there are lots of ups and downs along the way. Today I'm up a little, and very close to that line - I need be careful in order to keep going down along with it.

Alice

tjkhoover 06-26-2010 07:49 AM

You are doing a great job Alice...you will meet your goal as long as you keep at it!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be on vacation next week and in a place where internet does not exist...can you believe it?!! Anyhow, I hope that I will be able to bring a nice come back even though I have been on vacation. Plan to stick to the plan and continue to workout. Actually I will be helping on a farm and bailing and stacking hay....that should give me a workout. I almost hesitate to call this a vacation. Oh well...activity is where its at right?

MollySue2 06-26-2010 10:20 PM

Welcome to all the newbies - great to have you with us along this journey!
It's awesome to see this group grow and develop; I'm always looking forward to hearing from all of you.

Nessa, congrats on making it under 200 - that is fantastic!!!

Rose, great job on losing 3 lbs this week!! And cudos to you for staying focused while you were in Mexico :)

Almeeker, you are doing so great! You truly are an inspiration.

kaitlin, losing 2.2 pounds in 4 days is huge! Keep going!! I'm glad to have you with us.

I had a couple of BBQs to attend this past few days and couldn't track my calories for the first time in two months since I was away travelling. I'm pretty sure I did go overboard with my calorie intake, but it was awesome meeting up with friends and family, so it was totally worth it. Anyways, I'm back on track today!

mtlgirl 06-27-2010 12:35 AM

Thanks to everyone who posted their stats. It's very informative. I have been trying to raise my protein intake and yesterday got it to 38% so I was pretty happy with that. What I am most excited about is all the exercise I have been doing. I can feel such a difference it's amazing! Yesterday I wore a pair of jeans I could NOT squeeze into just 3 weeks ago and all I've lost is 6.6 pounds! I can hardly believe what a difference in my body. I've had to lose way more than that to drop a size in the past but I think the exercise has knocked a few inches off that haven't shown up on the scale due to muscle gain. It just goes to show how significant measuring yourself can be. I took all my measurements 3 weeks ago and plan on charting my progress once a month. For those of you who haven't discovered it, it's under the "Body" tab.

Frank, you are doing so well and are so focused. I'm totally impressed!

Welcome to Alice and Kaitlin! Glad to have you in our club! :)

Molly, thanks for managing our Wed Club check-ins and so happy to hear you had such a great time catching up with friends and family.

Jackie, have an amazing vacation! No internet? Wow, sounds nice... enjoy every minute.

Cassie, thanks again for always providing such sound advice!

Have a great Sunday, Everyone!
Rose

I love this site!

CJohnson: Congrats on 14 weeks of maintenance! I really think that's the hardest part of this whole process. Sometimes it's hard to be excited about staying the same when you've worked so hard to change something.

tjkhoover: Thanks for the nice comments - you add a lot of wisdom to these threads. I will miss you while you're on vacation and hope you have a wonderful time. I think I would love a working on the farm vacation - fresh air, fresh food, good exercise . . .

I'm even looking forward to recording my weight on Wednesday. So far this week I've hit the same lowest weight three out of four days.

Well aren't you sweet. Thanks for the compliment. I try and hit the proteins hard at breakfast, usually a tuna melt (whole can of tuna in water - drained) with reduced fat cheese (1-2 ounces) and a protein shake made with skim milk. When I'm out of tuna I will make myself an egg white omelet, or maybe a toasted turkey slimwich. This is right after my workout, so it's the perfect time for a big boost of protein. I also have protein at lunch but the source varies, sometimes chicken, sometimes cottage cheese, sometimes I eat more than one serving because I've got too many carbs in my pie chart, so maybe tuna plus cottage cheese or chicken and Greek yogurt. If my proteins are low I will also have a protein filled afternoon snack, maybe a protein smoothie or a cup of Greek yogurt, almonds, deviled eggs or a protein bar of some sort. For dinner we usually eat a serving of meat, chicken, fish, beef, sometimes pork along with veggies. Typically my lowest protein meal of the day is dinner, which is absolutely reverse of my life prior to fitday.

Below I've listed my top "go to" foods when I need to up my protein. I'm a carbaholic by nature, and when left to my own devices gravitate towards a vegetarian diet. I seldom crave meat, so Atkins would be impossible for me to stick with over a long period of time, but I can work with the list below and even occasionally crave some of them, even the tuna.

can of tuna 42.6 grams
4 oz chicken 23 grams
Greek yogurt 15 grams (my fave brand is "Fage Total 0%")
protein shake 14-23 grams (depending on brand & flavor)
protein bars 10-23 grams (depending on brand & flavor)
1/2 cup cottage cheese 13 grams

other good sources:

nuts and nut butters
milk
sour cream
yogurt (varies so read the label)
beef
whole grain bread (varies so read the label)
gelatin
shellfish
soy (milk, cheese, sour cream, tofu, TVP)
bacon

mtlgirl 06-28-2010 11:19 AM

Almeeker, thank you so much! I took your advice and yesterday I went out and got some lean turkey, a dozen eggs and some Greek yogurt and today I hit 40% protein! Yay!

I really appreciate you sharing this with me because I am a total carb addict and vegetarian by nature. In fact I was a vegetarian for 16 years but I was constantly having to take iron pills for anemia. I finally gave in and started eating meat again, but I just don't like red meat and I don't think I have it more than twice a month. With this list of high protein foods though, I feel like I can get enough. I also found a protein bar that I like, called the Simply Bar. It has under 160 calories, very low fat and 16g of protein. It tasted pretty good too!

This forum is really great! I feel like it renews my motivation and being in touch with people who are on the same path is so amazing. Thanks Everyone!

kcolville 06-30-2010 02:43 AM

Molly the same thing happened to me this weekend- family reunion and well i think i over-ate... i am now at 213.4. boo. it makes me feel bad about myself-

i did tell myself that once a week i could have a "treat" -being one "unhealthy" meal or a few drinks on the weekend...but this past weekend i combined the two!

I will be back on track and i know i can do this- It is just so hard.

-back on track.
