truvia net carbs?

I am doing atkins and watching my carbs, and noticed that my natural sweetner that is made with stevia has no cals...but 3 carbs per envelope. Erythritol is the name it goes by and I was hoping if someone who knew if it counts to my carbs for the day or doesn't raise insulin levels enough to worry about.

I avoid even the artificial sweeteners. I'm a diabetic and there are many 'experts' who state that Splenda was developed specifically for diabetics because it doesn't affect the blood sugar levels. I've found artificial sweeteners still react on me like sugar...including splenda.

Are there any sugar alcohols in it w8andc?

Also...If you're looking for a more pure version of Stevia (Truvia has some additives), they sell it at Sam's Club and Whole Foods.

I have found that Stevia reacts favorably for me, I don't get a spike so I don't really worry too much about it.

Melfawn - Stevia is a natural sweetner (if you can get it with just Stevia and no additives), Stevia is actually made from a plant. It is not like Splenda.

w8andc,

Erythritol is a natural sugar alcohol that can't be metabolized by the body. It's listed as carbohydrate on the nutrition label because that's what it is, but basically it has zero caloric value, no impact on insulin, and is basically just absorbed in the gut, then excreted in the urine completely unchanged. The entire family of sugar alcohols taste kind of sweet, but erythritol is used in Truvia because larger molecule sugar alcohols like xylitol or maltitol can't be absorbed by the intestine and end up causing diarrhea.
