Working in an office can be busy and stressful--and often, there is not enough time to grab healthy snacks. This article describes three healthy snacks that can be stowed in your office, and which promote good health and optimal growth.

Whole Wheat Pretzels and Peanut Butter

Whole wheat pretzels and peanut butter make a great snack for the office for two reasons--one, the food doesn't need to be refrigerated, and secondly, the food contains high amounts of nutrients to support good health and optimal growth. Whole wheat pretzels contain high amounts of fiber, which has been found to be an effective weight loss tool, and is also important for the treatment and prevention of numerous serious diseases, including cancer and cardiovascular disease. For best results, look for whole wheat pretzels that contain little added salt. Instead of the typical ranch dressing that pretzels are often dipped in, consider using peanut butter. Peanut butter contains high amounts of protein, which is essential for proper brain functioning, and is a great protein source for vegetarians. And although peanut butter does contain high amounts of fat, the fat is unsaturated, which research has found to be important in the treatment and prevention of stroke, Alzheimer's disease, and other conditions.

Yogurt with Granola

Yogurt with granola makes another great snack for the office. While yogurt tastes best when refrigerated, companies have now pasteurized the yogurt enough that it can be left unrefrigerated for a few hours without the risk of contamination--therefore, like the pretzels and peanut butter, this snack can be enjoyed even if you don't have access to a refrigerator. Yogurt contains high amounts of calcium, which is important to keep teeth and bones strong and healthy; and protein, which as stated above is important to brain health, as well as to keep muscles functioning properly. For best results, look for yogurt that has been made with non or low fat milk. Granola makes a great topping for yogurt--and though it can contain high amounts of fat, the fat found within granola is typically unsaturated, therefore actually making it essential for good health. Though making your own granola can seem like a daunting task, it is really not that difficult--and the results will keep you hooked. Place a small amount of oats, honey, and almonds on a baking sheet and bake at a low heat until lightly browned. Allow the mixture to cool, and then enjoy!

Granny Smith Apple With String Cheese

Finally, a granny smith apple and string cheese makes a great healthy snack to help you make it through a long day. Apples contain high amounts of fiber, which can help keep you feeling fuller, longer. When eating a granny smith apple, be sure to include the peel--research has found that this part of the apple may actually contain the most fiber. Pair your apple with string cheese to get some added protein and calcium, both of which are important for good health and optimal growth.
