Being health conscious is easier to do when you like a wide variety of foods, but it isn't impossible as a picky eater. The trick is to choose foods that don't have a heavy, distinctive taste and which can be incorporated into a variety of delicious meals that even the pickiest of eaters would love. By simply adding healthy foods into a standard diet, many benefits can be realized including weight loss, improved health and even a change in palate. If you're looking for a way to add health conscious foods into a picky eater's diet, consider the following ideas.

1. Mushrooms

Mushrooms can be added to marinara sauce without being detected, as long as it's been pureed. Simply add the ingredients you'd like to use to your blender or food processor and blend until they're creamy in texture. You can easily mix the vegetables into a homemade or pre-made sauce of your choice, and rest assured that everyone at the dinner table will love it.

2. Bananas

You can create a number of fun and tasty recipes using bananas. Freeze half a dozen bananas and blend them with your favorite berries or cocoa powder for a delightful ice cream treat. You can also incorporate mashed bananas into cakes, cookies, muffins and other baked goods in place of some of the oil. This doesn't change the taste of the food, but it certainly makes it more health conscious.

3. Bell Peppers

These colorful vegetables get a bad wrap from most picky eaters, because they look intimidating and they offer a distinct flavor. Incorporating them into savory foods like meatloaf and stews is a good way to get the vitamins and nutrients found in the peppers into the food, even if someone chooses to eat around them. They can also be blended into a fruit juice or pasta sauce without anyone being the wiser.

4. Brown Rice

This is a food that almost anyone likes, and it's one that can replace less health conscious foods such as pasta and white potatoes. Use brown rice in place of spaghetti, add it to burger meat when making sloppy joes, or create a casserole out of it using rich flavors like fat free cheese, broccoli and white meat chicken. It can also be eaten for breakfast in place of potatoes and eggs; simply add small pieces of bacon and a little soy sauce to the rice and stir fry it on the stove.

5. Fresh Oranges

Health conscious people, whether they're picky eaters or not, usually like the taste of oranges even if they don't like the fruit itself. Fresh squeezed orange juice each morning is a great way to start the day and can be an easy breakfast drink to prepare for the entire family. Small orange pieces are fabulous in stir fries and they can be added to yogurt, ice cream and salads as well.
