To date, there have not been enough medical studies done on high fructose corn syrup to reveal all of the side effects that it may or may not have on your health. 1. Obesity

In fact, while it takes just one day for your body to digest natural sugar, it takes up to four days to digest a serving of high fructose corn syrup. Because of this, your body is literally always working to digest high fructose corn syrup if you eat processed foods often or drink a lot of soda daily. This may cause you to become obese over time.

2. Diabetes

High fructose corn syrup can also lead to diabetes. Soda is very popular in the United States and can be blamed for the raising rate of diabetes. But high fructose corn syrup is actually in a lot of products that you might not initially associate with sugar. For instance, certain types of bread that are processed contain HFCS. As a result, you take in a ton of calories from high fructose corn syrup if you eat and drink these products. All of this causes your blood sugar to rise dramatically and, over time, you will develop an imbalance in your blood sugar levels that leads to diabetes.

3. Elevated Insulin Levels

While elevated insulin levels can help cause diabetes, they can affect your body in a variety of other ways. For instance, elevated insulin levels that result from taking in too much high fructose corn syrup can lead to everything from heart disease to arthritis. High fructose corn syrup will take its toll on your body over time by elevating your insulin levels to dangerous levels.

In order to avoid the health side effects of high fructose corn syrup, try to include less of it in your diet. Eat more organic foods and get your natural sugars from fruits and vegetables. You can avoid the side effects of high fructose corn syrup and start leading a more healthy lifestyle.
