9 Celebs Who Are Vegan—and What They Have to Say About It

There are many different arguments for adopting a vegan lifestyle, including animal welfare, the effect that the meat industry has on the environment, and even improved health and weight (according to PETA, vegans, on average, are 20 pounds lighter than meat-eaters). There are also many famous faces who have shared their decisions to go vegan, and below are nine of them.

Miley Cyrus is a big animal lover and is often vocal about animal rights. She made the decision to go vegan (and has been celebrated by PETA) in 2014, and has never looked back. According to Hello! magazine, she even has a tattoo of The Vegan Society's symbol.

Jenna Dewan has been a vegan since childhood, after watching an eye-opening documentary. "The next day I said 'I'm never eating meat again,'" she told Women’s Health. “It just stuck. I feel good about it morally and physically."

Michelle Pfeiffer only became a vegan in her fifties, and her decision was health-driven. According to CNN, in 2012, she explained that she felt veganism was a healthier option, and after doing her research, she claimed the science behind it was “irrefutable.”

Ellen DeGeneres is reported to have adopted a vegan diet in 2008. According to Delish, DeGeneres made the decision after reading books on animal rights and has stated she is vegan because she loves animals.

Madelaine Petsch, one of Riverdale’s finest, has told People magazine she’s been eating a “plant-based” diet her whole life. “Being vegan keeps my body fueled and running smoothly,” she added.

Beauty guru Kat Von D is very passionate about her plant-based diet, and she has been vocal about her decision on numerous occasions. She’s also worked hard to dispel myths surrounding veganism, telling fans that their hair won’t fall out, their skin won’t be affected (and hers is extremely healthy), and that if you eat right you won’t feel weak or get too skinny.

Zac Efron credits veganism for helping him stay in shape and told Teen Vogue that it “completely changed” the way he metabolizes food and the way he sleeps. Efron claims a vegan lifestyle has done wonders for his exercise and his routine.

Gisele Bündchen has thought about how her diet affects the environment and decided it was best to become a vegan, not just for herself, but for her whole family. "We all love it,” she told People. “It's not only good for our health and makes us feel good, but it is also good for the planet."

Ellie Goulding has not been a vegan her whole life but spoke about her decision to change her diet in 2018. "Once I fully understood where meat came from...I found that concept quite hard to live with,” she told The Cut. “If you don't need meat to survive, I don't see why you have to have it.”
