6 Celebs Who Have Spoken out About Their Health Issues

There are many celebrities who have suffered from various health conditions and it’s important for them to be vocal about their health because their stardom serves as a platform, which can be used to educate people and spread awareness.

Chrissy Teigen will soon be expanding her family and is currently pregnant with her and John Legend’s second child, but after giving birth to her first daughter, Luna, she revealed that she had postpartum depression. Speaking of her condition in an essay for Glamour, she wrote, “When I wasn’t in the studio, I never left the house. I mean, never. Not even a tiptoe outside … most days were spent on the exact same spot on the couch and rarely would I muster up the energy to make it upstairs for bed … I started keeping robes and comfy clothes in the pantry so I wouldn’t have to go upstairs when John went to work. There was a lot of spontaneous crying.”

Yolanda Hadid has been vocal about her struggle with Lyme Disease, but she’s not the only member of the family with this condition. Bella Hadid (Yolanda’s daughter) also has the disease, which according to MedicineNet, is spread by ticks infected with bacteria of the Borrelia type. Speaking of her illness at the annual Uniting for a Lyme-Free World gala, she told guests, “I know what it feels like to not want to get out of bed from bone pains and exhaustion and days on end of not wanting to socialise or be around people because the anxiety and brain fog just isn't worth it.”

Actress Daisy Ridley suffers from Endometriosis and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Endometriosis is when the cells from the lining of the uterus grow in other areas of the body, Crozer Keystone reports, while PCOS refers to a condition where small and large cysts grow on the ovaries.

Ridley was diagnosed when she was aged 15, but her symptoms flared up in 2015, and she has spoken about her health issues in an interview with Elle magazine. She said, "I was in my flat going nuts, and then my skin got really bad with the stress of it all, and I hadn't been well — I had holes in my gut wall and stuff — and we were trying to figure out what to do with that because I'd felt poorly."

Lady Gaga has suffered from fibromyalgia, which WebMD reports is a syndrome that affects muscles and soft tissue. InStyle magazine reports that she revealed her struggles on Twitter, where she wrote, “I wish to help raise awareness and connect people who have it. I am praying that more and more people come forward and we can all share what helps/hurts so we can help each other.”

Selena Gomez suffers from the autoimmune disease lupus, and she was forced to cancel her 2013 tour due to health issues. She spoke of this in an interview with Billboard magazine, saying, "I was diagnosed with lupus, and I've been through chemotherapy. That's what my break was really about. I could've had a stroke."

Kim Kardashian West has spoken about her skin condition Psoriasis, which she was diagnosed with in 2010. On her website, KimKardashianWest.com, she confessed she has embraced it, writing, “I don't even really try to cover it that much anymore. Sometimes I just feel like it's my big flaw and everyone knows about it, so why cover it?"
