5 Celebs Who Have Promoted a Vegan Lifestyle, and Why

Veganism is a lifestyle choice that has gained a lot of popularity in recent years, and according to a 2017 report from Global Data (via LiveStrong), the amount of people who identify as a vegan has increased by 600 percent from the years 2014 to 2017. There are many famous faces among these individuals, and their reasons for doing so include animal cruelty, or clearer skin and more energy.

Gisele Bündchen and her whole family have gone vegan, and they are doing it for the environment and their health. In an interview with People, she shared her thoughts on the topic, saying, "We all love it. It's not only good for our health and makes us feel good, but it is also good for the planet.” She added, “My friend Paul Hawken taught me that eating a plant-rich diet will have a hugely positive impact on global warming as well.”

Jessica Chastain feels that since changing her diet she has much more energy, and told W magazine (via Glamour), ”I just had more energy than I’ve ever had in my whole life. I was just listening to what my body was telling me!”

Ellie Goulding is a celebrity who follows a plant-based lifestyle, and she has shared that she does it for the well-being of animals. "Once I fully understood where meat came from ... I found that concept quite hard to live with. If you don't need meat to survive, I don't see why you have to have it,” she said in an interview with The Cut. “Also it makes you feel tired, it makes you feel lethargic, and your body finds it hard to process so much meat all the time," she added.

Benedict Cumberbatch was named as PETA’s most beautiful vegan in 2018, and according to Good Housekeeping, his diet has helped keep him in shape. Another celebrity who claims that their plant-based diet keeps them in shape is Zac Efron, who shared his reasons for embracing veganism with Teen Vogue.

“I've been experimenting with eating purely vegan,” he said. “That's completely changed the way that my body works, and the way that I metabolize food, the way it turns into energy, the way that I sleep. It's been brilliant. It’s been great for my exercise, and great for my routine.”

Alicia Silverstone is a proud vegan, and she has shared her views on the topic multiple times, but she also credits the lifestyle change for helping her lose weight and improving her skin. “Once I went vegan, I lost the weight I wanted to lose, my nails were stronger, and my skin was glowing. I feel great and I look better now than I did 11 years ago,” she said, Glamour reports.
