Default weighing in...

Hello, I understand about weighing a lot. I try to ONLY weigh in once a day. I track it on here so I want the best weight possible. I try not to pay much attention to the partial lbs on the scale, just the reg #'s. If it helps, it's hard to get the same weight all day because everything you eat and liquids will pile up for the day and you will likely weigh more by the end... I vary by approx 1-2 lbs every day!! But, for the best accuracy weigh in the morning before anything else if you can. I prefer to weigh naked just so I know it's all me.

i was weighing every day. now about every other day. always first thing in the morning before shower.

Beth & dr. oz are correct the tape measure is much more accurate indication of what we have lost. that being said i'm going to measure myself...lol

I'm always afraid that I will measure myself wrong. How often should you measure? Is there a special tape measure?

no i don't use a special tape measure just one that's flexible. at the most measure once a week. once every two weeks is good. i was actually down .5" on my thighs tonight woo hoo.

Way to go, Stacey! .5 inch is a big deal. My thighs are the last place to show fat loss.

Default Can't help you, I weigh myself ALL the time.

I've been dieting now for a couple of months and my workout routine is really kicking in so I'm weigh-in crazy. I'm consistently dropping, and to see even a .1 pound loss gives me strength and willpower for the day ahead. I weigh myself naked first thing in the morning right after I pee. Then I weigh in on the Wii Fit Plus before my workout. Then I might weigh myself right before bed so I can gauge what my weight might be tomorrow morning. They say that your weight can vary by 1-2 pounds in any given day, but I'm noticing that my weight varies by more like 3-4 pounds from night to morning. On the days when my weight is up I look at my food log to see what might have been the cause, or I check the calendar for my period. I know it's obsessive and probably unhealthy, but I feel like I know my metabolism better than ever. I should also confess to being something of a numbers person.

I weigh myself every morning at the same time. It keeps me honest. I don't flip out if I gain a pound or two as long as I see that I lose a pound or two. But if I keep seeing it go up, it puts me in check and I cut back or exercise more. I am not obsessed, but if I did not weigh myself daily.....a month will go by and there might me 10 pounds on the scale that i could have avoided.

I weigh myself everyday. I think it is okay, as long as you don't do obsessive things when your weight isn't in your favor. I weigh in on my Wii Fit Plus, and I use it as a motivator. I make sure I weigh in at the same time everyday, in the same kind of clothes.

Your weight fluctuates throughout the day, so don't measure yourself more than once. Find a time that works for you and stick with that one time of day. Try to find a different activity to do when you are thinking about jumping on that scale. Like jumping jacks or sit-ups, etc.

Although, I weigh myself everyday, I only count Sunday's weight. I write it down in my food journal on a chart with my measurements. The other weigh-ins are just to motivate me to do that workout I don't really want to do.

Don't get mad at yourself. Just keep trying get on the scale less often.

I had the same problem--here's how I handled it:
1-make sure you have a scale that is consistent...the same weight if you step on it multiple times in a row. That keeps you from stepping on it alot, since you know it will say the same thing (extinguishing behavior). It took some time to find an accurate one, but I got one at under $30 that is great.
2-I changed the unit of measurement on my scale from lbs to kgs...again, takes the variability out of it, but is sensitive enough to keep me losing weight. Each kg = 2.2 lbs, so losing 1 kg per week is a good consistent loss. I also do not have any emotional attachment to kgs since I have no history or preconceived notions about kgs (where I do with lbs). It's just a number, not a value judgement.
3-I satisfy my obsession with measurement, by estimating all my food amounts (cups, oz, tbsp) before I actually measure them. I get immediate feedback on a skill that is far more important to my long term success, than knowing what I weigh every hour, and it's more satisfying. Being good at this estimate comes in really handy when I am eating at a restaurant or at a friend's home.

I hope you are able to find some peace about that bathroom scale.

No seriously ladies, I can weigh myself two, three times a day. Will go pee and see if that made me go down .2 pounds, weigh myself with clothes and then without to see how much my clothes weigh. I totally want to go weigh myself right now to see if the sweat I lost from my workout made some sort of difference.

Anyways with the scale being more tempting than eating, how do you NOT weigh yourself?

My trick that worked in the past was instead of having the scales in my house was to have them at my Mum's or a friends and they would only let me weigh myself once a week. I'm looking forward to Sunday when I find out if I've started losing anything yet (only been back on the wagon a week).

Hope everything's going well with you
