Could someone take a look

I have been on Atkins for 11 days now. I have went from 240 to 228, but I have put on 2 pounds the last two days. I have not cheated once that I know of. I do eat a lot of seasoning on everything, but I scan for carbs and sugars before I add anything. Here is my plan for today. This carb calculator is much different than Atkins I phone app. Seems to be much easier.

What's your daily calorie burn? At 188 I'd be lucky to maintain at 2500 cals. Back when I was much heavier, I would have lost but still that seems pretty high if you're looking for some fairly quick results. Just my .02.

Regards,
Michael

Kudos on your success so far. I am a lifetime-Atkins person--but I do fall off the wagon once in a while. It doesn't look like you are getting enough vegetables. You should be getting a minimum of 15-20 net carbs each day in leafy greens and the other veggies on the induction list. Of course, you could be in OWL now--add berries and nuts. If you need tips and support, join our facebook group--Lo-Carb Fat Camp.

Am I reading correctly that you ate 1000 calories worth of butter?

That's the way it reads to me as well. Maybe he ate a stick of butter? After all, this is Atkins! :D

A few things to look at/ think about.

1. Sounds like the two pounds you gained may be a short term blimp. This could be caused by a number of things, but my guess is that you had a high sodium day which caused you to retain water. My suggestion is to not weigh yourself so often (once/week is usually the recommended amount) and on weigh-in days try to be as consistent as possible in the time of day you weigh yourself and your food/water intake in the 24 before you weigh in.

2. Like Mecompo said, as you lose weight your body is burning fewer calories both at rest and when moving. At 2588 calories and 228 pounds, you are probably close to breaking even unless you are fairly active and are exercising on a regular basis.

3. How much water are you drinking? I really am a believer in drinking plenty of water to lose weight. I have had good luck drinking at least 1 ounce for each 2 pounds of body weight (which for you would be 114 ounces)

4. I know it is a challenge on Atkins, but I would try to find a way to get more fiber.

Maybe he thinks he's on Atkins, but if he is eating a stick of butter daily, he's doing it wrong.

I'm on Atkins and I get PLENTY of fiber daily and I don't get anywhere near 2600 calories per day.

My suggestion is that you reread the rules of Induction, if that's the level you're on and EAT MORE VEGETABLES!

I agree! I get at least 25g of fiber each day, and I don't eat that much butter. The New Atkins for a New You (NANY) give this example of a typical day's intake of fat:
  • 2 TBS oil for salad dressing and cooking
  • 1 TBS butter
  • 1 ounce of cream
  • 2 ounces of cheese
  • 2-3 eggs
  • 2-3 servings of meat, poultry, fish, or shellfish
  • 10 olives OR 1/2 HAAS avocado
  • 2 ounces of nuts or seeds (after the first 2 weeks of induction)

Nowhere on there to you see an over-abundance of fat/oil. It may be more than a person doing a low-fat diet wants to eat, but it is not 1,000 calories of butter or oil.

Unfortunately, all of this good advice is going unheeded, and probably will remain that way: Last Activity: 12-14-2011 10:12 AM, Total Posts: 1

You're probably right but, maybe someone else will see it :)

I just get SO annoyed when people post their food journal showing they've eaten a bunch of meat, cheese and butter, with 1 celery stick and a couple cherry tomatoes and then tell you they're "doing Atkins."

That is NOT Atkins.

I eat more vegetables now than I ever have in my life.

VitoVino 01-09-2012 06:31 AM

Yes, I've had friends who did hard core, by the book Atkins for a year, and you're right about what is not Atkins.

My 2 Atkins friends oddly enough turned vegetarian after their stint. Then oddly enough they've gone back to meat, but in balance. Odd but true. :D
