Vitamin B12 for weight loss?

Hi wonderful community of fitday!
Does anyone have any experience with taking vitamin B12 supplements and noticing-not noticing weight loss?
The scientific studies don't support this, but in theory B12 helps metabolizing the food we eat. The issues are two-fold: 1. We don't absorb the one from supplement very well; 2. we may be excreting the excess we take.
But some people do report some weight loss, or at least it makes you feel more energetic so you move more (and lose more).

I'm trying to take daily supplement to see if they can help my weight loss, but I was really curious to see whether someone had tried them and had any tips? :)

Happy Monday everyone!

I posted something similar in the Women's Only section regarding B6. I noticed that I was losing weight more quickly on B6 than when I didn't take it. I believe some weight loss clinics actually give shots of B vitamins for their patients / clients.

For me this was only temporary, but I managed to lose a good 5 to 10 lb more easily (I had a total of about 20 lb to lose). I still take a B complex for multiple reasons, but one is (as stated on the bottle) it helps metabolize fat and carbs and my doctor has given me the OK. Another is that it helps with my mood so I'm more likely to get up and move. My doc also suggested that the B complex is likely more useful than just one B vitamin.

My theory is that I was deficient in some B vitamins, so my body wasn't performing at it's peak, and once I was back up to where I should be, they didn't help much any more.

I can't provide any science, but I can provide a bit of my own experience. I hope that helps!

I actually take complex B vitamins to help with my dry skin. I get those cracks in all my fingers and toes, and it's very painful. I talked it over with my doctor, and I goop them up with 100% pure lanolin 2-3x daily and take a B vitamin supplement everyday. There have been a couple of times when I ran out and went without them for a week or so and my hands cracked all over, it was horrible so now I buy bulk and don't run out. Last winter my dad had a crack in his thumb that wouldn't heal, It was almost and inch long and he had it for months, so finally I went out and got him a jug of B complex, and guess what? 2 weeks later he was healed up, coincidence? I don't think so. Can't say about the weight loss though, I've been taking them for years and until recently I was morbidly obese.

Ok thanks for your replies! I guess it cannot hurt to try then!

I saw on Dr. Oz yesterday that vitamin B is good for weight loss. Can't remember why, but that's what he said.

Looked on his site and found this video: The Benefits of Vitamin B | The Dr. Oz Show

I take B-Complex for a variety of health reasons. Can't say I've lost any weight since I began taking it though.

I take B6 and a B complex (as per dr) because of being Gluten Free. It has helped me with energy, feeling good and weight.

I notice a big difference in everyday living taking B12 and B6.

I tend to take a "5 hour energy" a couple times a week before going to work out.

It's more or less a large B vitamin.

It gets me to the gym - so I guess it helps with weight loss. :)

It really is very good that we do not need to worry about becoming overdosed with vit b12. As an example, when an individual takes a fantastic dose of vitamin b12 the physique takes the needed quantity, then it stores an additional amount and it releases the remaining more than urine.

Probably the most common consequence of vitamin b12 deficiency symptoms will be the so named B12 deficit anaemia. This disorder is bad mainly because our physique puts a stop to producing adequate amounts of red blood cells. That’s why the physique does not have enough oxygen. The main reason for this disorder may be the shortage of vitamin b12 in our eating plan or there's a challenge with the absorption of b12 vitamin in our digestive system. The indicators that indicate this disorder are exhaustion and lack of strength, constipation or diarrhoea, depression, numbness within the tip toes and fingertips. This sort of insufficiency ought to be regarded seriously due to the fact if we dismiss a lot of these indications there may possibly be a number of serious consequences towards the brain and also the nerve fibres. This disorder is usually taken care of simply with vitamin b12 health supplements, but it is suggested to consult any physician initially before you get started taking them. In this manner we is going to be positive that we get the correct dosage of vit b12 and we will get various useful recommendations on the best way to treat b12 vitamin deficiency.

Re:Vitamin B12 for weight loss?

Vitamin B12 is a nutrient from food we eat that helps keep the body's nerve and blood cells healthy. It also assists with making DNA in our cells. Vitamin B12 is an important nutrient to prevent anemia. Folate is a water soluble B vitamin that is found in food and helps create and maintain cells including the DNA and RNA, the building blocks of cells. Folate is used to make red blood cells that prevent anemia and it is also essential for the metabolism of the amino acid, homocysteine.

I take sublingual vitamin B-12 (Walmart sells it, as well as other stores) and haven't noticed any weight loss. I do think that when you diet, you benefit from taking a multivitamin because you start 'dropping' foods from your menus.

What causes you to lose weight is eating fewer calories. If you give up some nutrients along the way, that's where a multivitamin will fill in the gaps. That's just 'insurance.'

Eat real food instead of supplements. It gives the best bioavailability. Food highest in vit B: fish, shellfish, and ruminant meat top the list. Choose wild, grass fed or organic.

Rasberry ketone drops

I am also interested in Rasberry sublingual drops Dr Oz mentions. Does anyone use them.

I agree with the energy boost by vit B12 but I advice everyone here to ask an expert advice from health professionals because I think too long intake of vitB12 will tend to weaken bones in the long run.

Vitamin B12 supplements are good weight loss but it does not show any more preferable results. Doctors sometimes give shots of B12 to patients to help in reducing weight but there is no strong evidence about it. The best process to reduce weight is to follow a healthy and balanced diet plan with regular exercises.

I take B6, B12, and MIC shots.

I started on April 1, 2013, I consume less then 1000 calories and I started exercising yesterday, and I drink at least 4 liters of water. I'm down today 10 lbs. Keep in mind, I don't eat just anything. I don't consume processed fat or sugar. no salt. no soda. no fat. no sugar.

The injection gives me a massive boost of energy. If you want to know what I'm eating in details and how much, see my blog link or ask.

VB12 is known as the "energy vitamin" because it gives a real energy boost. It is used to remedy fatigue and it speeds up the metabolism. As B12 causes the metabolism to speed up, which in turn increases weight loss.

Can someone recommend a good multi vitamin product that will give me energy and stamina. I work 12-14 hour days and find myself lacking energy and have become depressed over it. I have been taking off and on some pills and have trouble swallowing. In addition they have not done much for me.

75% of the Vitamin pill will mostly end in the urine. You are better off eating food rich with vitamins then taking pills. You can talk to your doctor about taking B12 shots for energy, they are inexpensive and much more effective, and I'm speaking from experience.

I have been taking vitamin b12 sublingual for the past six months. I have lost around 15lbs. Now you may call it slow but at least it helped me loose weight. Besides it also keeps me active during workouts.

helenhan 09-16-2016 04:21 PM

i think vitamin b12 would not lose weight, like vitamin b6.
L-carnitine can lose weight

ilovemyfitbody 07-12-2017 03:54 AM

I always take VIT B12 daily, it's just a routine for me now :) I LOVE MY FIT BODY

OrganicTampons 07-13-2017 10:19 PM

Vitamin B12 definitely aids in losing weight as it converts the fats into energy due to which you move more which results in losing weight.

One of the best and effective ways to lose weight easily which was told by an ayurvedic doctor to me was to have warm water with lemon everyday!
