Want to lose 25 lbs., Need Support

Hello everyone!

I have used FitDay on and off for the past five years or so, and it has always helped me out so much with getting out of control eating under control. I am getting married in September, and somehow or another I have gained 30 pounds since my fiance and I got together back in Dec. 2006. I would really like to lose the weight I've gained, so I will be beautiful and feel good about myself on my wedding day. However, I am someone who really needs to be accountable, so I am hoping this forum will help me to be successful. I am not using any particular diet. Just watching calories, eating lots of fruits & vegetables, and trying to exercise daily.

Take care,
Kelli

Hi!
Good for you, Kelli! I've used Fitday before, too, but halfheartedly. I'm 41 years old and I'm 12 kg overweight (about 26.5 lbs.) - need to go from 72 kg (158.5 lbs.) to 60 kg (132 lbs, just the right weight for me at 5'7") I set my initial goal at 64 kg, to lose 8 kg ( 17.5 lbs.) because it was more realistic and I know those last 4 kg are the hardest to shed.
I'm also not using any particular diet other than watching what I eat, though because I know carbs are really hard for me to resist, I am trying to avoid any refined carbs. The food log here really helps me be attentive to what I eat!
If you want accountability, let's check in with each other here!

Hi Kelli! My goal is to lose 20 pounds and I've hit a plateau. It seems like I've been losing and gaining the same 10 pounds for the last 4 months. It's incredibly frustrating. I find myself using FitDay pretty religiously during the week to track my food, but find that over the weekends I completely ignore it and then find myself completely over eating, which then totally ruins all the good work I did during the week.

I hope we can both use this forum to keep each other accountable. I know you'll totally be able to lose 'love weight' - don't worry - i gained weight too during my engagement - there's something about being in love, comfortable and happy. :-) Good luck! And i'll see you back on the forum.

Rockzann 04-27-2010 07:51 AM

Hi there!

I am also looking for someone to hold me accountable. I like you have been here before and I've only given it half an effort. I've been in school for the last 2 years and have only focused on that. I graduate this Saturday so now it is time to focus on my health. I love food and need to monitor my portion sizes. The last three days have helped me see that I also need to limit my fat intake. Who knew? So if you'll help me, I'll help you.:D

WELCOME WELCOME! i love this site and the forums, Im sure you will accomplish your goals and be a beautiful bride on your wedding! best of luck and "see ya" around

bluestarlight19 04-29-2010 02:49 AM

Hi, I would also like to be held accountable. I also have engagement weight but it mostly started after i got a second job to save for my wedding (in october, one month after you) Lost my free time to work out. I'm at 202lbs and 5'7". I ordered my dress 2 sizes smaller to help me get motivated, and it has to a degree. I want to lose the 20lbs (hopefully more) that i have gained in the last year and a half. I had worked hard, using fitday to really help and weight watchers got me started, I was at 240lb 3 years ago and worked my way down to 175-180, then i got engaged and it has started to bother me a lot how much fitness i have lost. I also got a veggie garden and my bike this summer to really help. And its usually bored or stress eating and anything made out of chocolate that gets me. If its in the house, i will hunt it down til i eat the whole box :(
I usually do my weigh ins on saturday, do we all want to post on saturday?

dnbmonkey83 04-29-2010 05:16 AM

getting off those pounds!!

Hey ladies!! I joined this a few years ago for a nutrition class I was taking but more recently I've signed on to help me drop some weight before my sister's wedding in August. I've got really about 60 pounds to lose but I figure 20 pounds would be a decent goal for then. Plus, that'll put me right under my ULTIMATE GOAL of being under 200 pounds!!!

So... I hope none of you mind but I added all you (who have posted on this thread) to my contact/buddy list. I've been keeping a journal (well, two entries so far) of my experiences and it would be cool just to keep up with how other women are doing.

You all are super uplifting and I'm excited for us all to get where we want to be! Yay for us!

PS - I'm a 27 year old female from the San Francisco bay working in childcare and aspiring to open my own business this winter. What about all you guys?

kathrynflinn 04-29-2010 02:51 PM

welcome to the group! bluestar - i like the idea of doing weekly weigh-ins. i'd prefer to do weigh-ins on Sunday, only because Sunday's the start of the week. plus, it's a mental thing - it's a way to make sure i don't overeat Saturday night because i know i have to weigh myself on Sunday. ;-)

here are my goals: my starting weight was 174 (last week); i'm now at 172. i'd like to get down to 155 by June 26 - two months. I'm currently a size 12, I'd like to be a size 8.

my reason: come Sept 1 (after my 30th bday) - my husband and I are going to start trying to have a baby. And i'd MUCH rather have my pre-baby weight be my goal weight of 155, rather than my current weight of 172. this way, when I do gain the pregnancy weight, i'll just be getting back to my current weight. i'm just super scared of ballooning during pregnancy. about 8 years ago i tipped the scales at the 200 mark and it freaked me out - and i'm terrified if I go back up to that weight, I'll be stuck there.

jml2010 04-29-2010 03:23 PM

Hi all!

How's everyone doing?
Things are going along fine for me, the only change being that I am trying to deliberately zig-zag my calories. I seem to have settled into a good rate of loss after losing a lot in the first week - now it's like 1/4 kg every two days, I haven't been able to exercise as consistently as I would like, though. I don't know how some of you manage to do weekly weigh-ins - I want to do it every day!
Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well.
What are your plans for the weekend? Lots of people have said weekend eating is harder, so here's my question of the day - How do you plan to face weekend eating temptations?

Take care!

bluestarlight19 04-30-2010 01:32 AM

Awesome, i can do sunday, thats a good idea to not overeat.
As for weekend eating, i usually do better actually. I'm able to be more active and get out of the house and away from the food. I have also started setting my alarm for 6am so i get up early enough to enjoy the day and get some exercise in before things get going. Tomorrow will be a difficult day because its my best friends birthday and we will be going out and doing something. I know i will be eating cake and ice cream so i try to eat everything else healthy instead. I have a super healthy breakfast with eggs, veggies and fruit, maybe one piece of toast. I am going to carry around an apple or orange in my purse so i have an instant snack if i'm starving so i don't overeat. I'm just starting my garden, and just tilling and planting is hard work right now, i will be doing that tomorrow am. When i grow fresh food, i eat more of it because of all the effort i put into it. And i grow things i haven't tried before so i have a reason to look up recipes for it. I'm even getting my fiance into it now :)

revarley 04-30-2010 08:47 AM

Hi, this is my first post on fitday. I agree with you! I do great on my eating plan all week and blow it on the weekends. That seems to be my biggest stumbing block.
I lost 30 lbs in 4 months and have kept it off for 6 months. Need to lose an additional 20 lbs and have a goal to lose 10-12lbs before July lst before we go on our summer vacation. I do cardio 5x week and strength training with a trainer 2x per week and am just now starting to see the scales move again. Lost 4lbs this week! Mostly due to recording every bite I eat in fitday journal and being super strict with my protein/carb/fat ratio's. I'm finally feeling encouraged that I can make my short term goal by July lst!

revarley 04-30-2010 11:10 AM

Hi! I thought I would create one of those diet tickers too coz I liked yours!

http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt...Nl7/weight.png

jml2010 05-01-2010 12:29 AM

Wow, good for you! I wish I could be more disciplined about working out more but somehow it's just an ocasional run and some Callanetics at home here and there. Not enough!

I also find that recording every single thing is in itself a real help.
I just recently realized that it's kind of like money - if I overspend (overeat) then I have debt (fat) that I'll have to pay off (work off) by adjusting my budget (caloric intake) or increasing my income (exercising more). Since I am the kind of person who never spends more than I earn and have no problem living within my means (and my means are pretty meager!), thinking of it this was is helpful for me - I don't want debt (fat!)

All that was addressed to no one in particular, just sharing my latest revelation!

Have a great weekend, everyone, and don't forget to check in!

May 2nd - down another 2 lbs! Yay! So excited. So happy I started using fitday to record my food and activity. Just being accountable - even if jus to myself has made a HUGE difference this week!

Tonight is the first night ive been on and i cant beleive how fantastic it is. I already feel more positive and im looking forward to practicing what ive learnt 2moro. Im in England so its 12:20 her and im going to sleep shortly but will definately be back again tomorrow.
It feels really overwhelming that theyre is so much support as i thought i was the only person to feel like i do about being overweight. I even cried when i got my first reply from the lovely nessasonic because i was happy id found somewhere i could pour my feelings out.
Im going to really put my ultimate best in from now on in and blitz this roly poly me into the gutter and be the size 12 ive wanted for the last 8 years!!!!!!!!
Come on everyone lets pull together and help each other get to our goal weight.

jml2010 05-03-2010 12:25 AM

Hey Tracey, good for you!
I am in central Europe, so our time zones are jsut an hour apart - maybe we will be on here at the same time sometimes . Although the beauty of message boards is that it doesn't matter what time zone you're in...

Congratulations on your determination, and let's all check in and support one another!

We can do it!!

bluestarlight19 05-03-2010 12:47 AM

urgh....checking in...i actually gained 3lbs in the last week :( up to 205.4 from 202.8 when i checked it this morning.
I'm hoping its because of my period (TMI) but i usually put on water weight at this time. Will know better next weigh in. Tried to work my garden before going out on saturday but i got attacked by bugs and only last an hour. Should have brought my bug spray. Got it packed and ready to go tonight. Road my bike (in the rain) 3.5 miles to the train station. Have to ride it home too, not bad, very warm this morning. I'm going to try for 4 days riding this week and maybe riding wednesday to my garden. This weekend i ate some bad things while hanging out overnight for my best friends birthday, but i kept it in moderation mostly. Ice cream cake and pizza, plus breakfast the next morning (french toast and bacon). But it was so hot out (90 degrees with 65% humidity) that i didn't feel like eating anything else after we got home on sunday, so we only ate about 3 meals all weekend. I think we just took cold showers and sucked on ice, no A/C at our place, ewww.

kathrynflinn 05-04-2010 03:12 PM

oy vey. i fell off the wagon - HARD - this weekend. two of my best friends from college came in from out of state for a long weekend (a girls' weekend) and we celebrated in style. Lots of eating out, a night of drinking wine - 7 bottles between 4 girls - that's not too bad, right? ;-) And did I mention lots of eating out?

does anyone have any tips for not over indulging when going out to eat? what do you do to stay on track, when you're out with friends?

myrasalman 05-06-2010 02:51 AM

hi everyone.
I would like some help losing weight as well.. this seems like an excellent way to hold yourself accountable for what you are eating. i try to hold back on carbs as well but sometimes it's just really difficult.. i love to eat rice so I don't have any other big carbs through the day.. my starting weight is 145 and would like to go down to 130 atleast. Let's all do this together.

traceymc1985 05-07-2010 10:08 AM

Thankyou Margaret- ive been doing really well this week but had a small square of lasagne i didnt need about 2 hours after my tea(threw the rest in bin so didnt eat it).A blip which im going to try not hold against myself. Im just going to pop any leftovers in the freezer so im not tempted to go to fridge for more when i dont need it.
Will weigh in on wednesday though and if i get back on track hopefully i will still see a loss. Why doesnt willpower last as long as you want it too sometimes?

jml2010 05-07-2010 10:47 PM

Hi Tracey!

Well, we all have things we don't really need sometimes, but you're right, definitely don't hold it against yourself. I say good for you for throwing the rest of it out!!

I went to a wine and jazz festival with friends last night and had 4 glasses of wine - I drink pretty rarely - and oh my goodness! I had no idea there were so many calories in wine! Not quite the way to reach your weight loss goal. But the same goes for me ...I'm not going to kick myself over it, I'll just be a bit more careful today.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

traceymc1985 05-08-2010 12:08 AM

Hi margaret your encouragement has made me feel much better and im also trying my best today to stick to the diet. I always find it much more difficult not to snack so much on weekends. I think its because the kids are staying at their dads til sunday and im not busy. I know i should exercise or something but i just like ton chill out and enjoy the rest until its back to all systems go through the week. I dont drink much either but if i do i try and stick to a spirit and diet cola but it easy to get carried away when out. I always think its best to enjoy yourself. If i know im going to have alcohol i limit my cals through the day so im not going too over my allowance.

kathrynflinn 05-10-2010 02:13 PM

i hit a PR tonight while running! 4.1 miles! that's 1 mile further than I've run in the past - i've only been able to get to 3 miles lately. i think it was the combination of finding the perfect song to run to, that fit my mood, and my new running shoes. (my old running shoes had run their course, so to speak.)

now i just have to resist the urge to 'reward myself' with a treat.

bluestarlight19 05-11-2010 12:46 AM

wow, that is awesome! 4.1 miles :) i want to get back into shape to do that again...

2nd job week, trying to control my tired eating when i get home at night. I was right, the weight spike was my period and I'm back down to 202. Haven't lost any yet. Went shopping and got all fresh veggies and fruits, some plain yogurt. I've been looking more at sugar now than fat to try and stop those cravings. I biked a lot last week but was more lazy than i wanted to be this weekend. I had to babysit my nephews because my sisters dog was sick and needed to go to the vet. Her husband is overseas so she doesn't have a lot of people to fall back on for emergencies. Did some gardening though, in the rain, lots of digging.
I've hit a wall with stress though and i can already feel it creeping up on me. My future husband has been laid off for a year and has been trying to find work. We just found out that he only has 7 weeks of unemployment left because the government is stopping the extension program. My landlord is trying to raise rent outside the terms of our lease. Might have a way out though with financial hardship, my parents are moving to a larger place and they said we could take the top floor and move in with them until things get settled. My father has been out of work also so my mom is afraid of his extensions ending and they will need help with rent too. At least the weather has been nice...except for tomorrow...but this has been one of the nicest springs since college. Trying to use the outdoors and exercise as a stress reliever to keep from eating, so far so good. :)

kathrynflinn 05-13-2010 05:08 AM

well, it's weigh in day for me. i only lost 1.2 lbs since last week. it's hard not to be disappointed by such a small number. i know that it's better than not losing any weight at all - and definitely better than gaining a lb - but it's still hard not to feel a little disappointed.

c'est la vie - i'll just focus on upping my cardio this week and see if that makes a difference at next week's weigh in.

how is everyone else doing?

myrasalman 05-13-2010 05:28 AM

I was doing great and now I just had a huge size of cake at my work.. ahh so unfair.. I have really hard time staying away from sweets so when i see cake starting at me it's soo difficult!

traceymc1985 05-15-2010 09:21 AM

I also find it hard to say no to food especially when its right in front of me. Its the same when the kids treats are in the cupboard and so i go upstairs on an evening so not to give into temptation. Ive also put all the biscuits and bars into a lidded tub. If i open the cupboard and there is an open packet of biscuits staring at me its just too easy to take one(or 3) when nobody is looking!
Cakes however is much more difficult and i only buy them once a week for my partner and ive got to use all my willpower to say no but i think its unfair for the rest of the family to miss out on goodies so i only get them in rarely and he eats them all in one day so its kinda ok!(he wants to gain weight) I tell you though if its got fresh cream i gotta allow myself just a little taste, mmm...mmm...mmmm!!!
Its really hard saying no to the foods we love! I have a little saying i think of whenever i want to eat the whole thing-A teaspon full tastes exactly as the rest so why eat it all when the flavour is all the same! This may not make much sense in words but it works for me most of the time. Usually just a tiny taste of something can satisfy my tastebuds enough not to have the whole thing.

kathrynflinn 05-20-2010 03:05 AM

it's weigh-in day for me. i've lost 2 pounds since last week. that's a HUGE surprise to me - i was preparing myself for a plateu week because i ate like a pig Saturday night (went to a bbq at my husband's client's house) and gorged myself on homemade chocolate tarte and meringue.

when you're invited over to someone's house - does anyone have any tips for eating healthy, monitoring portions and making healthy choices when someone else is cooking/serving food?

MetalPeaches 05-24-2010 05:50 PM

I hope this thread's not dead...
Hey I just joined fitday about a week ago and found this thread today. Haha I also put on 'love weight'- about 20-25 lbs. We go out to eat too much and drink too much beer. I think having a beer after work once a week turned into having a couple beers a few nights a week and that delicious nectar of the gods is a big diet buster.
Anyways, since joining I've lost about 4 lbs- I love this site! I think it'd really help to have other ladies who are serious about losing 20-25 lbs. My goal is about 1.5 lbs a week and I know it'll get harder to lose as I get closer to my goal.
Anyways- hope you all are still on track!

Edit: ok as of this morning I'm back up to 151.5 - so those 4 lbs came right back somehow. : (
