50 pound club

I love watching The Biggest Loser, and getting motivation from the show, but I feel that the majority of the overweight people in the United States are 35-50 lbs overweight.

I have been visiting the Fitday website since 2007! I have not lost any weight.

Today I did something different. Instead of putting in my ideal goal weight, I put in a realistic 3 week goal! Perhaps I will be able to stick to the diet and not be so overwhelmed if I am not thinking in huge numbers!

I have to do this day by day.

I would like to lose 50 lbs. That is my goal.

Anybody else?

When I began my weight loss journey I knew I had over 150 lbs to loose. It seemed overwhelming and impossible. Ofter over the years I would say what's the use I'll never get there. My stinkin-thinkin was focusing on the "there". It changed for me when I started looking at what healthy choices could I make for today, just today. Today is manageable, today is a small enough goal that I don't get overwhelmed and when I string together all my today's they equal health and wellness. Its been over 3 years and I've lost 155lbs with 24 more to go, and today looks pretty good!

50 pounds plus

Hello, ladies! I actually started out with the burden of 100 pounds, managed to take off half of it, over the course of a couple years. Joined fitday about a year ago, and with a great deal of walking, dropped some 20 pounds. Then backslid about 6 months ago, to the tune of 15 regained pounds. Pretty disgusted with myself right now, but determined to get back on the horse, so to speak. It's very hard for me to acknowledge that I managed to keep off 35 pounds, when all I can see is the surplus that I still have hanging around. Breaking it down into more manageable "bites" (no pun intended) makes better sense, and is more realistic.

This is my seventh straight day of working out, and that alone is noteworthy for someone like me, who'd rather not be bothered. I don't hit it hard every day, I do alternate with lighter workouts, so it doesn't all get too monotonous. Just need to keep focused on one day at a time, and not allow myself to get too crazy with it all. Hoping to find the support I need to keep me going. Thanks for listening and sharing your thoughts!

Hello Ladies,

I am right here with you, i started a lifestyle change last week and so far Ive been doing ok, I haven't weighed my self yet, but I feel like its all about changing my life. I need to lose 50lbs, but I've given myself a year to do so, i do have smaller goals throught the year I would love to be able to go to the beach and the pool and not be so self concious of how I look in the bathing suit this summer.
This year will be a year of changes!

Good luck to all of you, and lets keep each other posted on successes!

msmarilyn3 01-14-2010 07:16 AM

Hi I need to lose 80#'s and like you I sometimes feel like it will never happen. So I'm also starting with a smaller goal of 20# and continuing on from there. Just stick with it - keep journaling and blogging it's a great way to network with others who feel the same way and it keeps our hands busy ha-ha! Be kind to yourself!

Evening Ladies,

I just found this forum a little bit ago after joining Fid Day back in July. I want to loose 50 pounds. Lost 10 is all so far. I believe I have done pretty well staying on the wagon. Trying to keep in the 1200 calorie range. Need to do something different as 10 pounds in almost 6 months seems so slow. I am getting discourgaed. I have no real desire to eat more and sometimes I have to force myself to eat more to get up to the 1200 calories. Trying to keep the fat and carbs down. Need to work on offing the carbs more.

Not exercising much lately due to a medical issue but should be better soon. I am still walking daily.

Thanks for being here and I hope we can help each other along if nothing else then with encouragement.

Hi Ladies :)
I discovered FitDay today and knew this would be the way to get me motivated.
I have about 45 lbs to lose, the same 45 lbs I've been procrastinating over the last couple of years.
I moved to Canada from England a few years back weighing 130 lbs (I'm 5'4"). But, naturally the North American diet has caused me to shoot up to 165 lbs. I'm looking to get down to 120 (which would be fantastic) but I have so much trouble staying motivated and committing myself.

Going to North Carolina in the summer, so I need to feel comfortable in a new bikini by then :)

Watch this space ... :)
Good luck to everyone!

Hello ladies:

I too would love to lose 50 lbs. I'm currently at 187. almost all my wieght is in my mommy tummy. I have been doing crunches so hopefully my tummy will start to shrink. Today I'm really not feeling like doing my cardio but you never know, I might feel like it later.

New kid on the block!

Hi everyone,

First day on the Fit Day! I also need to lose the mommy belly, I would love to lose 45 pounds. I need alot of support I do real well for a week then the chocolate takes over. I am cigarette free for 114 days now it's time to focus on the weight!

fitby33 01-20-2010 12:53 PM

Hello everyone,

I started using fitday because of a class and I love it just haven't done well with committing. its hard looking at what you ate and why you are the sum total of it! I am so tired of being over weight so I am willing to suck it up! I am currently 229.5 pounds and I want to loose about 55 pounds. I like the one day at a time thing that is the only way to do it cause it is very overwhelming when I think about how big I have gotten. I just had a baby 6 months ago and my goal is to be down 30 pounds by her birthday in July. Not sure if it is realistic but I am trying!!

mrssmty 01-23-2010 04:40 PM

it is very realistic... break it down to 3 10lb mini goals and go for it! I'm routin u on!! Good luck, I'll be doin the same thing here on my end!!

fitby33 01-25-2010 05:18 AM

Thanks for the support!! I need it. It is kind of difficult to work on weight loss and hubby is eating whatever whenever! I gotta stay focused!

nkygirly 01-26-2010 12:47 PM

Hey Pervan and CMW91, where in Canada do you two live? I'm a Canadian girl living in the States and miss my true north. I have put on 30 lbs. since moving here and, while I'm finally making good friends and feeling at home, I miss my old home. I was an emotional eater, so I finally got fed up with moping around, joined a gym and am got on the diet bandwagon. You are an inspiration, Pervan.

joannebeck 02-04-2010 12:56 AM

Hi All. I also am from Canada, and looking to lose 50lbs. I seem to be able to lose 20 but then put it back on before I lose more. Looking to break that cycle and finally reach my goal.

MariaHkhan 02-04-2010 04:40 AM

I have to lose 50 + as I am an apple shape and it looks kinda weird on me. Also, i am struggling, if i dont lose weight i kind of lose hope with it and then i end up going on a binge spree. I want someone who can just be there to motivate and help me. :(

santalua 02-09-2010 12:06 PM

37 down, 55 more to go...(long)

Hi all.

I started off at 247 in the beginning of January, 2009. I was able to lose about 35 lbs and then went on vacation and gained 10 of it back, was back to 227 or so. Then I started again about a 5 weeks ago and was able to drop 17 lbs. However, now it seems I've hit a plateau. I am having a difficult time just sticking to one new program. I keep reading different things on the internet and trying them ALL! :\ I do cardio for about 30 min everyday, and have started in the last week and a half with crunches, light weights/reps and walking with 3 lbs weights in each hand. Any advice on how to get past this apparent plateau? I should probably just stick to one new routine, instead of trying a new one each day. Today is the first day I decided to not exercise. I am 34, 5'6", 210 (and not moving).:| I eat about 1900 cal a day, including the above exercise regimen.

Help? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

cjohnson728 02-09-2010 12:27 PM

Welcome

Hi there, Santalua!

i just have a couple of thoughts for you off the top of my head. First, I don't know what your walking is like, but check to make sure that your cardio is therapeutic (that you get your heart rate up enough). The best way to burn through calories is to get to about 80% of your maximum heart rate (220 minus your age). Lower intensity for longer periods of time (past half an hour) could also burn fat; lots of different opinions out there, but try checking your heart rate to see where you are.

Second, I have become a big fan of zig-zagging calories. The idea is to have the same amount weekly but to vary it significantly day to day to prevent your body from getting used to the same thing, so your metabolism is constantly working to adjust. Here's a website to explain it; put in your info and it will give you the calories you need to maintain, lose slowly, or lose quickly. Good luck!!

Calorie Calculator - Daily Caloric Needs

I have done this for the past week; it is very adaptable and it helped a lot.

Cassie

Lizzycritter 02-09-2010 01:04 PM

Michigan mom here, 35 5'5, top weight 182, currently 164, trying to get to 135-140 range. The bikini's a lost cause (thank you, stretch marks) but my goal is to wear a sundress this summer without my thighs rubbing together. Would also like my chest to stick out farther than my stomach :p. Started getting serious about weight loss in October. November and December was a wash, didn't gain but didn't lose any either. Now that the holidays are over, I'm being more strict with myself, 6 lbs lost since the new year. Just found the forums and I'm liking it a lot.

santalua 02-09-2010 01:11 PM

Cassie; I will DEFINITELY try it! I just went to the site and printed it out. YAY! PSYCHED!

Also, I walk very briskly; about 4 mph, with the weights; although I've only been using the weights for a cpl days now. I also jog intermittently, which ends up being about 10 of the 30 minutes. I also do about 40 jumping jacks as a warm up before walking. With the exception of walking, the other activities (crunches, weights, jumping jacks and even step aerobic stepping peppered in) are relatively new and implemented in an effort to break this plateau. I will let you know how it goes! Did it break a plateau for you?

cjohnson728 02-09-2010 01:54 PM

Sounds like your cardio is right on track, then. Something worked this week for me and I didn't change anything except the zig zag. This time last week I was bouncing up on the scale by .2, .4 pounds, so I decided to stop weighing for a week and zig zag. Today when I got on the scale I was down 2.5. It makes sense when you think about it and I love the way it gives me the days of calories for maintenance as well (something to look forward to)! Let us know how it goes! Good luck!

santalua 02-09-2010 09:07 PM

I will absolutely let you all know. On a side note, I am getting my "monthly friend" any day now... could this be a factor, as well? I was doing a little reading and it seems as though it could. >grasping at straws< lol

I'd like to achieve a 50 pound weight loss. Just getting started, again.

santalua 02-11-2010 09:09 AM

Good luck, Midwestgal! :) I'm right there with ya!

missmaggieelizabeth 02-12-2010 06:26 AM

Morning,

I have not dropped off the face of the earth. I just have been really busy with work and life. Trying to catch up on things. Glad to see there are others here to share the journey with. Makes me feel better knowing there is support when I snivel about slow losses.

FINALLY after a couple of months being flat on my weight loss I have dropped 2 more pounds. Woo Hoo. So 6 1/2 month 12 pounds down. Sheese I feel like a snail. Hoping to be able to start exercising soon. Waiting to heal first.

Definitely going to look into that ziz zag diet. It looks like it might work well for me too as there are days I really have to force myself to eat more then 900 calories. Some days I am starved. Lets shake up this metabolism.

A friend sent me some really jazzy music and I have been playing it while doing chores and it helps me to want to be more springy in my actions. I am actually looking forward to being able to shag around to the music. Soon Soon.

Hang in there you all. I get discouraged with my weight loss being so slow but I look at it as 2 pounds lost is really 4 pounds because I could have gained that two pounds. Heheheh Weird I know but it works for me.

Maggy

DeathArrow 02-14-2010 11:51 AM

Hey guys. I am trying to stick to a 1200 calories diet, but I find it so hard because I am 1. bored or 2. hungry a bit and end up going to 1300 or even higher :/
How do you guys stick to 1200? I'm not good at "timing" the exact time I eat my meals, and writing stuff down...I go to school, and when I get home I feel like devouring everything in the house, and I can't really snack on healthy foods during school, mostly like chips and things are offered and are plausible to bring with you to class. Idk how to do this at all...and I'm feeling so...defeated, but defeated by myself. It's like I am fighting myself in all this and this part of me is so weak, and the ravenous part of me just wins all the time. I figured this place would be good to get inspiration and support. But you see..I fear, sitting in front of the computer all day reading about weight loss, and not actually doing it..but I honestly have nothing to do on the weekends, I'm bored and then I eat. I am currently 5'7 and 170. I would love to be 140, my original goal was by April starting in November..a little too late now huh? I'm doing the Couch to 5K regime, I'll be starting my 5th week soon, do you guys think this is good? What else should I do? I liked the Couch to 5K because I didn't feel overwhelmed with an exhausting amount of excercise (which I would punish myself with, but in the end never stuck to it). Am I doing well so far as excercising? Also...one more pregunta, what about stretch marks? How to get rid of them... my goodness, I'm still a teenager, and I can't even look like one.

Help me guys. Thanks, danke schon. :)

cjohnson728 02-14-2010 12:03 PM

Hi DeathArrow,

I think you may be shooting yourself in the foot with the 1200 calories. Most definitely it does NOT sound like something you can sustain for a while.

I plugged your info into this calculator Calorie Calculator - Daily Caloric Needs

It says that even for EXTREME fat loss, you should be eating around 1360 cals a day. For regularly paced fat loss, you're in the 1700s. I wouldn't go too much below 1400 or your body will adapt to that and your metabolism will slow, making it easier for you to hold onto your weight. If you don't lose, too few calories is probably why.

Couch to 5K is a good program, good for cardio. I'm doing it myself. However, the best exercise is the one you'll stick with, whatever that is. Maybe also try some strength training to balance it out and build your muscles.

Good luck!

missmaggieelizabeth 02-14-2010 04:17 PM

Death Arrow. I found just a few peanuts helps to curb my hunger. Would be pretty easy to take a few with you in a baggie to school. I find even 15 peanuts does the trick for me. Just eat them slowly one at a time and enjoy it. Then you will not be so hungry when you get home.

Maggie

DeathArrow 02-15-2010 03:56 AM

Thanks Cassie and MissMaggie. I think I will do the 1360 calories. Thanks for your advice. I'm sorry for spilling out all my gloom in a post on here, but it felt good though hehe. But yeah, I'm all good.

I hope everyone else does well on their goals! ;)

Good luck ladies! lets keep up the good work ;)

missmaggieelizabeth 02-19-2010 03:19 AM

YIPPIEEEE JRamirez So Happy Happy for you!!! Every pound lost is a victory. It has been so slow coming off for me too. I am NOT giving up or into going back to where I was. I am right in there with you on still needing to loose 40 -45 pounds. One little bit at a time.

Some one posted a funny link to "This is why you are Fat." Not a reflection on any one here personally just a funny take on foods. Some of it pretty gory.
This is why you're fat.
It made me laugh. We need every excuse we can get to laugh.

Congratulations! I thought I would update too on this thread, as I also am now down 10 lbs since starting in January. YAY!:) It is going very slow for me, about a lb a week or slightly less. Having said that I am very happy to be losing and not gaining!

Hello

Hello Ladies,
I am new here Im 25, I need to lose almost 50lbs, i joined yesterday and I am sooo ready for a change in my life, I really wanna do it this time!

alfonsingm 04-06-2010 08:12 AM

I am 26 years old. I joined fitday last week and have really found it extremely beneficial this first week. I started off at 204 pounds and I'm currently at 198.6 pounds. My goal is to get down to 140 pounds which is a total of 64 pounds. I was wondering if I could join your group even though my total goal is more than 50. There aren't any groups for people who want to lose 60 pounds, so I don't realy feel like I have a place to fit in. I could use all the support I can get as this is my third time around with my weightloss and I can never seem to maintain. Thank you all!
