Hi Mandy - Sure! I got my degree in biology with minors in chemistry and physics. Bio and chemistry have been very useful in the working world, physics not so much… I work in environmental consulting for a large firm, primarily in the areas of NEPA and CEQA compliance (Google the acronyms). I evaluate client project sites (prior to construction) in order to determine the level of impact that their project could have on the environment. On the field side I get to sample soil and water, collect fish and insects, conduct plant surveys, fun stuff like that (fun depending on the weather that is..). Still end up at my desk though because all data requires evaluation and reporting after field work. Picking career goals is tough… you have chosen a huge field with so many possibilities, which is great! I hope your college has a good selection of bio type courses offered so you can find out what you really like to do. Ama

Thank you, Cassie and Mern for the support. I was really close but I think today I"ll definitely be in the green!

Stretch your hamstrings. Unless it hurts. It's never good to ignore a pain. Take some ibuprofen and do a little bit of hamstring stretching, I would suggest.

That sounds great! I haven't completely decided what area of biology I want to focus on, but my school has a huge biology program with a really vast number of different biology majors available. I'm thinking about applying for an internship with a lab that's about 2 hours away from me in my junior year. Hopefully I'll have narrowed down my interests by then!

My turn for a hubby rant in white (about his diet):

He's always getting on the scale and saying "it hasn't even gone down!" or worse, "why has it gone up?". It's so frustrating. He's getting all snotty with m because I'm succeeding (not saying anything, but doing a lot of eye rolling), but he's doing nothing to lose weight and then complaining that he's not getting results. He hasn't been for a walk in at least a couple of weeks, and his eating habits are atrocious. His breakfast this morning? Two white raisin bagels with gobs of cream cheese and a banana. The other day he went to Wendy's at 4:00 so I said "oh, I guess you don't want dinner," and he said "yeah I do, that was just a snack." WHAT?

It wouldn't be so infuriating if he would just say "I don't care that I'm fat," but he's all upset that eating piles of garbage and not moving at all isn't making him thinner. He's all "I'm eating all this salad for dinner and nothing's happening!" Well, I have half a dinner and a big salad, and he has a big huge dinner plus a small salad. He thinks that eating bran flakes will melt off the ponds, but he has like three cups of bran flakes for breakfast with just as many raisins, and often goes back for seconds.

I'm trying to shut out the guilt I'm feeling, but I'm one of those people who feels guilty about everything, and he has this unspoken attitude about me trying to better myself when he is doing nothing. I can only push him so much. I make healthy dinners and put salad on the table, and every few days say "are you going to get back into your walking?" but harassing him isn't going to work. He needs to lose weight a lot more than I do but he's not willing to do anything about it. One of these days I'm going to snap and just tell him why he's fat in a not very nice way. He doesn't hear it when I try to be encouraging.

He's the same with money. He's all "well jeez, I only spent $300 on coffee this month and I'm broke." He is driving me crazy. I wish he would just say "I'm dumb, you manage my life," rather than making the same mistakes every day and then complaining that nothing is changing. When I was stuffing my face and lying on the couch every day, I knew that what I was doing was the reason I was fat and tired and sick. I didn't expect to wake up and magically be ten pounds thinner. I didn't spend money like water and complain that I couldn't go on vacation. It feels like living with a teenager.

Aaaaaah. Rant over.

Nobe - feel better?! My hubby also rolled his eyes when I worked out on Saturday.... I'm making a conscious effort to workout if i'm just watching TV - I can watch TV and stand on the elliptical or do a few freeweight reps!! Why not!?! You are right- there is only so many times that we will try to be encouraging before we give up - thats exactly how I felt last night - I asked him Sunday if he was going to work out Monday night with me and he said yes....so when he farted around on his Iphone I wasn't about to send him a freakin invitation! They have to do it for themselves - they are big boys!

Someone told me once, on fitday, to not think of what I can't do - but focus on what I can do.... I think we both need to stick with that right now. Just try to focus on the positives.... Look at what you have accomplished for yourself and just hope to hell that he follows suit sooner rather than later!

Feel better to get it out, nobe?

All I can say is stay your course. Admittedly, it is hard not to get sucked in. He sounds like he is doing everything he can (in a passive-aggressive way) to make you not change. Maybe he feels threatened, guilty, like a slacker, who knows. But girl, you are doing this for you, so hang on!

As we all know, charting can be a real wake-up call. Maybe next time he complains about "eating all these salads" and not losing, you could gently suggest that he use FitDay to "see what he can tweak" and to give him some information as to why things aren't working. Same goes for money, lol . Eep...FitDay for Finances...

I can offer hope, though. My hubby was very reluctant to get on board, even though he needed it as much as I did, more, actually. But having someone there making healthy choices and not changing back eventually got to him enough that he figured he'd join in. Obviously we both still have our lapses; his are mainly related to stress, but at least he recognizes it now.

On an aside note, how come we started putting our rants in white? I can't even remember when it started. Call it professional bias, but I don't think we should hide our feelings!! Food porn or TMI medical stories, maybe, lol!

Nobe, I feel for you; it must be so frustrating. I like what Cassie said: stay the course. He'll see your results. I also think it's OK to say something like why do you think it (weight loss, budgeting, etc.) isn't working? What are you willing to do to change it? (between you and I, Nobe, Einstein said the definition of stupidity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.) I also think it's OK to say you would love to help him but prefer not to hear complaints.

My DD has a terrible diet. She is always complaining about how tired she feels. I have often suggested that if she ate better, she would feel better. She tells me I am always bugging and judging her. I said Ok I won't bug but you can't complain. She has recently been tryignto make SOME changes, eating better meals, more fruits, a bit more veg. I do not take credit for this. She is taking a nutrition class in school and she says she leaves convinced she is gonnna die due to the food she eats. Maybe we can send your DH to that class?
