Hi Nancy,

Im feeling much more positive today (thank God!) and things dont seem quite to bad. I have got my pedometer working again (new batteries kept failing but bought some from a different outlet and now its working perfectly....hmmmm). I am trying to do the recommended 10,000 steps per day but over the last week have been doing 5,000 to 7,000 per day - and that includes the dog walk! So I can see where I am going wrong - I'm not moving enough! The dog is going to have to start going for extra walks, dont think he will mind.

I was very good with my food intake yesterday and actually wrote everything down and sat and added it all up at the end of the day. I was surprised to see that I was within my Fitday calorie allowance, so that confirms to me that I am not burning enough calories to make much of an impact on my weight.

The weather here has improved over the last few days - the sun is shining but there is a thick frost in the morning and it is very cold all day. I dont care how cold it gets as long as the sun shines! I envy you your weather. We have a cold period forecast for the next week so we might even see a little snow. Its weird that we havent had any this year after the last two winters we had more snow than we have had for over 20 years. The whole country ground to a virtual standstill over Christmas 2010 and there were some amazing satellite photos of the UK completely covered in snow from top to bottom, quite frightening really.

The pottery lessons sound fun. I did have a go on a potters wheel at school uhm uhm years ago and loved it. But as there was 30 in the class and only two wheels it wasnt much of a go! The tips of three fingers on my left hand have already started to harden (or is it go numb?) from only a week of practice on the guitar. I have mastered three cords but now have to start working on speed and accuracy. It has helped in those moments when one finds oneself wandering to the fridge - now I pick up the guitar instead.

My daughter seems to be ok in herself. She is going to be a bridesmaid at her friend's wedding at the end of August, so she is focused on getting healthy and losing weight and is planning to go back to work over the next few weeks. Her employers have said she can go back part time, so it will not be too much for her, until she is ready to go full time.

Take care
Love Nita xx

Hi Nita and PurpleIris,

Well it is official...2 mths of no exercise is horrendous for the waistline!!!lol

We went to the city for a lunch with old friends today and I was fine until everyone suggest we have dessert...I buckled. I ordered an apple crisp with all that gorgeous crumbly topping and brown sugar. I had an orange for dinner. Now my pants are way too tight and I feel badly

As of tomorrow I am straight back to exercise and posting my food. I was doing so well before I got sick, and I can do well again, it is just putting that first day in!lol

Nita I impressed with your pedometer and your walking, 7000 steps is very good!! I am also happy your fingers are a bit numb..in a good way . I am not musical but I like to sketch a bit and once my laundry is under control, and my exercise, I will get back at it. Our lounge is flooded with sunshine all morning and I enjoy being in my chair copying the color comics from the weekend paper. I find time flies and hours can go by before I "come out of it" and realize I have missed a meal and tea breaks! I find it very meditative even tho I am not accomplished...doesn't seem to matter.

PurpleIris I am happy to meet you. This is a good site and really works if you give it a try!

I am off to moisturize this Canadian winter dry skin...see you soon!!

Cheers,

Nancy xx

Hi Nancy and Purpleiris,

I'm having trouble getting motivated at the moment. The weather here is cold and damp (stay indoors by the fire weather) typical grey January days with the threat of snow. I did manage to get my pedometer up to 11,552 steps yesterday! I walked to the supermarket with my shopping trolley - 20 mins there, 20 mins in the shop, 20 mins back - walked to the allotment to get some sprouts and do some weeding - 10 mins there, 30 weeding, 10 mins back - and a dog walk - 30 mins. I must admit I felt a lot better for it.

I was also very good and only had two snacks of a medium apple during the day. Only used skimmed milk all day and low fat meals. Today I have to go to the Optician to get my eyes tested, its free as I have Diabetes (shame the specs wont be!). Trying to get myself motivated to walk to town (45 mins).

Cant wait for the Spring!

Hi Nita...Nita the Wonder Walker we will call you!! wow girl way to go doing all this walking..good for you! I did well today getting off my medication for a yeast infection in my bladder, ick!!, and I did an hour of cardio with resistance now my legs are really feeling it, but I am very happy. I will do it all over again tomorrow afternoon.

We have our usual blazing sunshine which makes us very happy, we also have warm temperatures but I don't know for how long? it will be well above freezing in a day or two. I am jealous you can weed a garden in January..lol unheard of for us! Before I got sick we spent a month in Mexico every year, now there is gardening weather, parched dry! I am really missing it about now but I am spending the next 12 weeks exercising and eating well..and like you Nita I am pushing the movement side of things..we can do it together? I am game!

For the first time since my cancer dx and treatment almost 2 yrs ago I feel like a functioning human being who can think clearly. I am 56 and have been feeling more like an 86 yr old. At least today is great, so I will just say thank you and be grateful for the terrific day I had and hope for another one tomorrow.

Nita keep up the walking and I will keep up my cardio..we will be half melted away come the end of April! I am hoping to be down 10 lbs and that is manageable, those are 10 lbs I gained last summer / fall with my Crohn's flare up. After that I will work on the last 50, but first things first.

Coronation St is almost over and time for a little something to eat before bed - otherwise known as supper!Lol. I had lunch very late (4:30!) so now it is almost 7:30 pm and I am getting peckish. I am still wheat free and virtually dairy free so I really have to put thought into every meal and keep it under 1350 cal for the day.

See you soon!
love, Nancy xo

Hi Nancy,

I'm so glad you have got rid of the bladder infection - that can really pull you down. You sound like to are having the same sort of weather as us - one week its warm and spring like and the next sub zero! Today its -2 c but the sun is shining and there is no wind.

I am very proud to report that I did 16,442 steps yesterday. I gritted my teeth and walked to town (even though it was threatening to snow) for my eye test. My eyes are the same as last year so that's good news. Hubby is happy as I don't need new glasses! I did a little shopping and walked home and then took the dog out.

I know what you mean about feeling older than you are. I'm 50 and am having the same sort of problems as my mother who is 70. When I go and see her we compare aches and pains - I shouldn't be having the same problems at my age! I know most of the joint pain and tiredness is down to my weight - but its just so *@%$&£ depressing!

I shall get my trolley out later and walk to the supermarket again and get something healthy for dinner tonight. Hubby is away tonight so its just me and the kids to cater for.

Keep up the cardio Nancy, and I shall keep up the walking (I should get a firm bum if nothing else!). I'm just going to go through my cupboard and find the most comfy and WARM boots - I cant stand having cold feet.

Take care

hello Nita,

wow this has been a tough month..but I am well (aside from this migraine) and I am going to be fine so soon I will be back to working out. I am listening to the trainers and doing muscle work alternate days to build muscle and burn calories!!!!!! I want slim arms and I have come to the conclusion this is the only way to get them.

I bought a Jillian Michaels DVD, she is an American trainer who doesn't take any excuses from anybody. This program is 30 min of weights & cardio per day but I am going to begin with alternate days (when my migraine is gone). I bought the DVD 3 weeks ago but then had horrible family problems and it has taken me all this time to get my strength back, then we had a snow storm and I got hit with a migraine yesterday, blech. My husband and kids are sooo supportive and I love them dearly!!

Nita, is your weather still wonky? We had a real Canadian snowstorm this weekend so we consider it winter,,,finally! it isn't cold but we can ski on fresh powder snow, or snowshoe.

I am sorry I have been gone so long but my stress has been awful and I had nothing positive to say, which is pretty sad.

Nita I hope you and your family are well? Do you still have snow? I think of you walking with your pedometer and the dog..must be one happy dog!!

I am hoping I am back here for good now...see you soon!

cheers!

Nancy

Hi Nancy,

Sorry I haven't been online but we have been having problems with the internet/computer. Very frustrating, but hopefully it is now sorted.

Hope you are feeling better and your sick child is now ok. I know how worrying about family members can drain your energy and affect your health. After the problems we had last year I have been feeling very very low. My eldest daughter noticed I was stressed and offered to move back home with her boyfriend for a week to look after my other two and all the pets so that my husband and I could go on holiday. At 17 and 14 middle and youngest dont want to go on holiday with us old fogies anyway. So we have booked a week in August in a tiny cottage in Norfolk for a week of rest and doing whatever we want. I am really looking forward to it and it has given me the incentive to lose weight that I had lost.

I am still walking and now the better weather is here am trying to get up to the allotment as much as possible. Next week my youngest and husband are going to visit the in-laws in Spain so I have a list of decorating jobs I am going to do with them out of the way!

I was getting a lot of muscle aches which was making walking uncomfortable (I felt like I had been lifting weights or something!) the doctor has changed some of my medication so hopefully over the next few weeks that will improve. I will also have to ask for a blood test when I next see him as I think the menopause may have started. So that may also be adding to the general feeling of "crappyness" and lethargy.

I haven't weighed myself (too scared) but am started a concerted effort to eat healthily starting today. This morning I had three small eggs scrambled with a splash of skimmed milk followed by a large banana.

The sun is shining and it is the Easter holidays so I am feeling much more positive and upbeat.

My eldest is not doing too badly at the moment. She has had some tests recently which show she has gone into menopause so she now has HRT patches. Its a bit disappointing after the surgeon went to all the trouble to move her ovaries to try and save them, but her Oncology Consultant said it was almost certain that they would fail and would have been miraculous if they have continued to function. So it makes you wonder why they did it - it only gave her false hope. She seems to be resigned about it. She did see a Fertility Specialist before she had the Chemo, who basically said there was nothing they would be able to do for her, so that door was already closed to her.

Well done on the weight loss Nancy, you put me to shame. Hopefully I shall have something positive to report soon.

Take care and much love,
Nita xxx
