Default hormones?

Can hormone imbalances play a part in difficulty with weight loss? I had my blood drawn a couple weeks ago to test various hormone levels, one being testosterone for low energy, low libido and fatigue. They are checking my thyroid too. Every time I've had it checked before it's come back in the "normal range", but this dr. is saying that although it may be within a certain range, it may not be optimal, so they are going to take a closer look at it. I don't know if hormones can play a part or not, and it's still a couple more weeks until I go back for the results to ask more questions. Also, I am only 42 and I'm wondering if I'm going through perimenopause, so if anyone has experience with that who may be able to give their thoughts...I am normally very regular on ttotm (every 26-28 days). Last month I was 12 days late and when it did start it was hardly anything at all. This month I've had some cramping but still already 5 days late. And the weirdest thing too is that for the past few months I've had skin breakouts on my shoulders, which I have NEVER had before, even as a teenager. What gives? I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on these things. Oh...and no I am not pregnant. I'm cut, cauterized AND tied. lol So I'm just wondering if all this "aging" crap is making it more difficult for me to lose weight.

I think you are on the right track.
Yes, hormones can play a role. 42 is about the right time for peri -menopause. It's not too early. I can't speak to the acne because I've always had it.
I'm having similar issues with thyroid. I've had traditional doctors look at me and say I have the characteristics for low thyroid but the tests come back normal. Finally my naturualpath "diet doctor" put me on something called naturethyroid and is seems to be helpting.

She's also coaching with medically supervised weight loss plan. (lots of veggies, shakes, lean meat, etc) I have a lot of food sensitivities and she was one of the few that understood. (so side note, monitor your dairy reactions -gassy, cramps, uneasy, tired, etc. As we age, we often lose the ability to digest dairy correctly and it can influence our weight.)
Good luck.

If you use the fitday log to check how many calories you're actually eating, that may give you some insights.

Aging plays a part - few people have the same metabolism they had when they were younger! Also, your skin changes as you get older - I've noticed more skin tags as I age and (gasp) the first 'liver spot'!

OK, so I couldn't predict those things, or when they'd appear. They don't even run in my family. But a dermatologist and my own family doctor said, basically, 'Things change as you age!' Always mention them to your own doctor anyway. I'd be interested if that can be easily changed (without side effects).
