ED- You are totally correct about BMI. It is total BS. For me to not be considered overweight I would need to have exactly 0% BF. If I had 1% it would put me into the overweight category. Looks like are tracking way ahead of your 11/1 goal. Sweet....

Hi guys----i'm new to FitDay and to this forum.
I was offered a trip to Pebble Beach by a good friend if I lose 50 lbs.(instant motivation)----started counting calories and working out at the gym.to date I have lost about 25 lbs and seem to have plateaued (about one week)
I'm 69 and use a heart monitor while doing cardio for about 30 minutes.
Is keeping my heart rate at about 105-110 too low to burn calories?
I read the book"Where did all the fat go"by Dr.Huizenga (MD on the Biggest loose----but he does not mention anything about heart rate.

Pat, I am no expert but you can burn calories and keep you heart rate low. I think you will find that it is much easier to take 1,000 calories out of your diet then it is to burn 1,000 calories in the gym. weight loss is all about creating a gap between the number of calories you take in and the number of calories you expend. Go for nice walks and find areas of your diet to adjust.

Way to go Pat. Your doing great and all of us has had the same slow down in dropping the pounds after a few weeks. For some reason, it picks back up if you just stay with it. I think your doing fine as you are and will be golfing Pebble Beach.

Hope everyone is doing well. I have been doing great on my workouts. Been doing the gym 3-4 times a week for 1 1/2 hr. each and doing a Sunday morning jog/run for 1 hr every week. My diet has not been so good, Hot temps = I want a cold beer! For some reason, mowing the lawn or being in the pool just corrupts me. That is my weak point. The weight still coming off slow but steady. 8 more pounds to my goal and I will make it.

Keep me posted on everyones progress.

Having a very tough time of it in June. Have been level (actually put on a few pounds but since lost it again) since the beginning of the month. Lost interest to be honest, but since getting back into the forefront of my mind - caused mainly by the increase of the few pounds mentioned earlier. Requested a hotel with a gym for the upcoming week and I may be able to get outside a little more as where I'm going isn't going to be in the 90s thank goodness, so trying to go for the "no excuses" and "I can get outside and walk" method. Let hope it works.

Hey Richard,
My weight loss has slowed down too. I lost 3 pounds the week before last only to put it back on this week. We both have come a long way and need to keep our eye on our goals but I can feel where your coming from. I'm working out harder than ever but I have not been focused on the diet. I know that If I would buckle down for three weeks I could make my goal then maybe focus on weight maintenance, not loosing.
I think it's Okay to hit a spot like this but let's not get completely off track. It sounds like the being on the road thing is very hard but I'm sure you can stay focused on your goal. We've come a long way!
Good luck and keep me posted.
