Yes that's the 'Cholesterol (mg)' number from the Custom Nutrition Goals tab of FitDay's food log, (or rather the dots on the Custom, Nutrition, Intake, Cholesterol report).

I had a really hard time with keeping my intake under 250 mgs of cholesterol when I started looking at that in Dec. I was trying for under 200 at first, but that was a total bust.

I have a friend who's hubby is a MD, and he received a recommendation to take red yeast rice for high chol., and takes it daily. On suggestion of friend, I try to remember to take it, and the fish oil capsules, but I'm inconsistent at best. I even tried putting the pills in a container that once contained chocolate candies, and that sits in a spot I pass at least ten times a day. But even that doesn't improve my consistency. I just don't like to take pills, I guess. Unless they're chocolate pills. And the fish oil ones make me burp.

BTW, I once read a study that assessed the content of a number of brands of red yeast rice pills from various source, and concluded that they all had inconsistent dosages of the active ingredient. I figured that guy must have worked for the pharma firms that make statins... but I digress.

Anyway, I've got my little candy jar filled with fish oil, vitamin E, calcium, B12, red yeast rice, etc., etc. But I hardly ever actually take any of it.
Maybe once a week I'll pick out two or three of them to pop. I think I'll go do that now...

[ok, took a RedYeastRice, a Fish Oil, an E, and three black olives.]

Hi All!!! Happy New Year!!!! It's been a long time since i checked in here. It's midweek so maybe i'll post weekly goals starting next week. I did set a couple of goals for the year: to do a half marathon by May and a full marathon by the end of 2013. Don't know if i will make it, I'm not a very good runner but i'm sure going to try

Got my 6 glasses of water in today and exercised for 30 mins. Not very strenous but I haven't exercised since before Christmas so I'm easing into again!

I bought Shredded wheat minis last week at grocery store--high fibre, no salt and no sugar. I add a teaspoon of splenda and put cinnamon on it and it tastes pretty good. Cinnamon is supposed to help with blood sugar.

Jenn, good idea with the shredded wheat!

Hi Nyda, welcome!!! 12 glasses of water! I am impressed!12 glasses!!! I can barely do 6. But I'm working on it...

Donna, I have heard good things about the red yeast rice pills, never tried `em. There are burpless fish oil pills; I have taken them but I too am inconsisitent. Sorry about the "food porn." But don't worry I have lobster once a year and butter very very rarely, if ever. I have highish cholesterol, high bp (controlled by pills) and lots of fun stuff (diabetes, heart diseaase, stroke in the family) so Itry to eat clean - cleanish anyway.

Cassie, I too, am here trying not to do the snacky thing.

Krystal, jump in any time!!! As some of my favorite Buddhist teachers say: start where you are.

Kimbur good to see you here. Great long term goals!!

Mern, I eat Chinese food verrrrrrry rarely. Too much salt, sugar, etc. Boy... the food I promised Donna I won't mention for a year and now this. Depending on how you look at it, I 've been treating myself very well or very badly... which brings me to my plan.

I am happy today because DD went to the gym (so did I) and ate really well. I hope she can stick with it but even if she doesn't, today was good.

Plan for Friday:

smoothie with almond milk, chocolate extract and protein powder
tuna with salad
chicken and winter squash

Snacks:
nuts
hummus, guacamole, a limited amount of corn chips and carrot sticks
fruit

We are hosting our bipartisan discussion group so I am hoping not to go too overboard with the snacks...

Hi Nyda, glad to see you back after the holidays. I hope you are doing well and that we can help with your motivation.

Good to see you, too, Kimbur...staying on land for your next big accomplishment, I see . Power to you!

Donna, Paul, one of the IT people, made the move for us. Looks like people are finding us here in the new section just fine. FWIW, I use burpless fish oil...it's a tad more expensive but my grocery does buy one get one free occasionally, so that makes up for it. Glad you got a few goodies in you tonight at any rate, and that was a reminder to me to get up and get mine.

Ama, are you sure you wouldn't just want my list? I can use all the help I can get! I think from some of your posts I got the impression that we both have work that can be crazy and then slow down...so that is when the catch-up time comes in. Oh, and I just calculated the chowder and it's not too bad...143 cals/cup and I used fat free half and half. I'm not a fan of rich, fatty, creamy stuff, so this was perfect; it had great taste and depth and wasn't too thin.

Donna, congrats on your year anniversary! And your dedication is paying off! The Manhattan style shrimp is a good idea. Over the holiday I did crab soup that was a tomato base. It needs a bit of tweaking; I was trying to recreate my grandmother's recipe that was never written down and which no family member can recall completely. It was good, but still a work in progress.

Mern, sometimes you just need to eat something you love...keeping the buffet to 3-4 times a year is pretty good in my book. I'm glad you got your exercise in and had some good times with the GDs.

Hope, your day with your DD sounds lovely. I know she's there for a limited time; may you have more fun days than stressful ones.

Krystal, great goals. You can do it!

Joanna, what an awesome goal! What's your training plan?

Jenn, Robin, hope you both are having a good day

Cassie - Yes! I think I'll just pirate your goals #1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7! Can't say I could ever commit to exercising 6x a week though. Unless I could count not taking the elevator at work... which I have only used a few times in the past 8 years. I get some stair master in that way at least .
