I've read it can be anywhere from 3-5 pounds. It's crazy is right! :D

I'm guessing most of it is dehydration from breathing/peeing. It has to be.

But I gotta ask, so what weight do I say, "OK, this is a healthy BMI, the one I'm going to maintain." Is that the weight before I go to bed, or the one 3 pounds less in the morning?

Well, maybe, but only if you focus on the "it". It's meant to be humorous, besides, the point is how you wake up lighter, not having done anything but sleep, and the scale reads a few pounds less,...

... that I can weigh myself just before going to sleep, and then in the morning after dropping cargo the scale reads (3) pounds lighter!
