My rowing coach says that five minutes of slow movement after intense effort is the key to preventing soreness. It does seem to make a big difference.

Thanks, Pam! I think strengthening the ab muscles is probably what our coach wants to happen from the exercise. He put this exercise in a sequence called "serious core."

Carb count depends on diet being followed. I lose weight only when I keep carbs super-low (yes, even when I should be losing based on calories in/out). Like net 10-15 grams per meal.
