Tipping---Southern Calif
I live in Riverside/Corona Calif area.
What percentage do you tip at:
Haircuts?
Perms/Color?
Family type restaurants, such as TGIFridays or Islands?
Pedicure?
Acrylic Nails/Fills?
I generally tip 20%, more if Excellent Service.
Is that customary for you. Is that too much or too little?
Thanks for your input.

Hey luvlowkarb,
I'm in Riverside too! Downtown/UCR area.
I am pretty much a 20%-er for most of the salon services. Sometimes I go a little more if it rounds the number off to a nice even amount (many salons are well aware of this). Since I have been going to the same place for a couple of years and seeing the same professionals I have started giving Christmas bonuses as well.
At the chain restaurants I tend to be a little tighter, 15% to 20%. Mostly because so often the service isn't really very good. But I usually include the tax when calculating the tip which technically you need not do.

Interesting topic. I'm in the Tallahassee Area of FL.
Haircuts: I'm probably fairly stingy - it's usually something like 10-15%. Honestly, it depends on what I'm getting done (just a cut? Or a color too?) and what the stylist is like. I'm really NOT a chatty person, and I don't like it when they try to force me to converse about topics I don't care about, since it's usually awkward and stilted, haha. If I get a stylist that lets me be quiet and read a magazine, or that tries to engage me with something other than magazine gossip and/or fashion, I tip more.
Perms/Color: This is usually about 15%
Family restaurants: I'm a fairly generous tipper for food, usually roundabout 20%, even at chain restaurants. Maybe it's because I had that job once...
Pedicure/Acrylic/etc.: I don't ever really get manis or pedis, so I don't know.
I will tip up to 30% for really excellent service that's obviously above and beyond, depending on how large the bill is and how tight the budget is that month.
