Default VitoVino's List is Amazing!

A month or so ago I asked a question about getting my RDA of potassium, and one of my responses was from VitoVino, with a link to some research he (or she?) had done. I just got around to checking into it, and it was SO HELPFUL to me! I don't know if there are lists for all different nutrients, but I sure got the information I needed on potassium, and I'm definitely going to find out what beet greens are, and learn to like them. Thank you so much VitoVino! - Stephanie

He put a lot of time and effort in to information that he gathered. He did a Best Of Series that's pretty helpful as well.

Default Thanks!

Thanks Stephanie. I appreciate the shout out. Like Mike said, I really put a lot of time and effort into that list. It started out as something just for me, to help me achieve my daily potassium intake without taking a supplement and without going overboard on calories.

I searched every site on the internet that listed high potassium, low calorie foods. But NONE of them had the ratios, so none of them were reporting the information I really needed in order to achieve my objective of getting the "biggest bang for the buck"'; in other words, if I'm going to take in extra calories specifically looking for potassium, I want those calories to be limited as much as possible.

I found a couple of magic bullets while doing the list. The "No Salt" potassium chloride is one. It takes some getting used to, but I can purchase low salt/no salt foods and then add KCl to them and I'm not missing out on the salty flavor many of us desire.

A sweet potato is another. I've been eating one a day pretty religiously since about December. It not only supplies a huge amount of K in one potato, you can increase it even more if you decide to put some "No Salt" on it. Plus it's packed with FIBER. So it really kills 2 birds with one stone. I actually crave a sweet potato every day. I find them delicious!

Lastly, another good trick is to drink low sodium V8 juice. Add some "No Salt" to that and you're getting a HUGE amount of potassium in one 8 ounce glass. All for just 50 calories!

What I find amazing is that I was the first to post this information on the internet. I don't know if anyone else had ever done this kind of list before, but I'm proud to say that this is the first list of it's kind to be posted anywhere on the internet.
